Q. Re: Team Goals

Do you try to meet them?

Do you make more $ if you meet your 3 year goals?

Or have you been ignoring them like me?

Wondering what I get out of trying to meet those goals. Example:

I have 115 road wins in 3 years, I'm on my 3rd year, and I must win 150. Sucks for me because I like to sim most of my games and am JUST NOW starting to pay attention to 3 year goals.

If you meet the yearly ones the owners will give you more payroll money to work with, about 5-7 million more a year when I reached 2 of them (i think there are 5). I have always met the 3 year goals, I thought if you didn't you would get fired, but that seems a little harsh, anyway they also give you about a 5mil + the money for any goals you achieved that year. If you meet the 3yr goals the owner will say how pleased he is and how he wants you to come back for another 3. You can either accpet or decline and choose any other team to manage (make sure you save before the 3rd offseason begins, because thats when you choose, and it kinda sucks to see the team you built doing so well, while your trying to rebuild a new franchise).

I have always started with the red sox and have around 40 mil etc. that I never used in my payroll, so completing the goals didn't do much for me until I moved onto a team with a smaller cap.

The only time you really need cap space is during free agency, because teams bid like crazy for guys (ex. harden asked for 2 yrs at 4 mil, I had to pay 11 mil for 3yr, after the bidding for the 6th straight week). And the other time it comes in handy is when you want to trade for a prospect. Usually teams are very reluctant to give up a #1 draft pick, especially because the best prospects are in the small cap teams (tampa etc.) that always need cap relief. So the prospect has a salary of 300k, and there is no way you can give them an older better player who has a similar salary. So you should trade a good young player (one that won't be as good as the guy your getting) and another guy in the 27-29 range who has basically peaked but has a high overall, for the prospect and an old vet with a big salary (giving them cap space). Then just realease the old vet so you only have to pay 50% of his salary.
