jrod53
The other day in my dynasty... I'm losing 5-1 heading into the top of the 9th. Derrek Lee hits a solo HR with 1 out. The next guy gets out. Now for the amazing part. I get an infield single with Juan Pierre, and then Carl Crawford hits a grounder to third, which is bobbled and he beats it out. Because of an earlier double switch, I had the pitcher batting next, so I pinch hit Fred McGriff (?!), the last bench player available. First pitch, he pulls an inside fastball down the right field line, just over the glove of Ichiro, and off the foul pole for a three run homer. All that was off Brad Lidge. In the bottom of the 9th, first pitch I get taken deep on a low and away splitter by Nook Logan :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: It was on MVP difficulty btw. rynox
I have myself set up as a relief pitcher on my team (Cubs). Just like the real Cubs I started the 8th inning with a 1-run lead and gave up a 2-run dinger and got the loss. I felt real crunchy for that one. cybernetic
I just had a really heartbreaking one.. I was up 3-0 going into the 9th with my pitcher (Ted Lilly) throwing a no hitter against the Washington Nationals. First two guys out on a K and a grounder then I get a routine groundball for the final out and throw it away. What do you know the next guy hits a single to bust up the no hitter and the next 2 guys follow to make it 3-2. I pull him for Miguel Batista (the closer) and he gives up a single to the first batter he faces to tie. He then K's the next guy to force extra inings. In the 10th I lose on a 2-run homer by Jose Guillen to the opposite field 5-3.
sdoyle7798
Saw no reason to start a new thread for this, so I'll just revive the old one. Last night, I'm the Cards vs. the Pirates. Im up 3-2 in the top of the 9th. Now I'll say this, the plate umpire had sucked all night, for both teams. I can remember at least once where he called a "yellow x" pitch a strike and once where he called a "blue circle" pitch a ball. And forget pitching on the outside corner, no-one was getting that call. So I had to leave the ball a little more on the plate than normal, which MAY be the cause for Izzy giving up back to back doubles to tie the game. The rest of the inning goes ok, as no more runs cross. Bottom 9, I don't score. Top of 10, Izzy still on the mound. First batter hits a ground ball to Eckstein, who boots it, runner safe at first. Then Izzy throws wild on a pick off attempt, runner to second. Next batter gets a hit to right field where Chris Duncan (subbing for an injured Juan Encarnacion) boots the ball allowing the run to score. I was so peeved, I plunked Burnitz in purpose. In comes Lopper to mop up, and no more runs score, so it's 4-3 Pirates going into the Bottom of the 10th. Leading off Spezio doubles, but then is promptly PICKED OFF at second. :wall: That ticked me off because I am really good about reading pick-offs at second base, and I pushed teh stick back to the bag the second I saw the shortstop cut to the bag, but Spezio did not move. I don't even remember how the other two outs were made. At least I beat them 2-1 on a Preston Wilson 8th inning jack the next game. 8)
yourhomiejosh
Heartbreaking losses? Every time I put in Dempster to close out the game and he ends up giving up whatever lead we have. Shoot, this game sure is realistic.
catzrthecoolest
I was the braves, and I went 21 innings, and with 2 outs and a runner at first someone hit a double and the runner scored and I lost :(
fred13
18th inning, I was the Angels facing Boston. Schilling vs. Byrd (It was when 05 originally came out) 2-2, both pitchers went 8 strong, so I start warming up Colon cuz I'm running out of relievers, bottom of the 18th, I put in Colon, he's at 98%, so I'm thinking he's ready to pitch, First pitch, fastball down and away, Big Papi cranks one out during his 7th at-bat. The worst part is, I had Carlos Delgado due up the next inning (I signed him of of FA's) he was leading the league in HR, RB, and TB's. I felt so screwed watching the ball going over the fence. Mezza76
My Nats dynasty - was playing Game 7 in the WS against the Red Sox (old rosters). David Wells pitches 11 shutout innings to beat me 1-0 in the 12th. Not a nice way to go...
Klesko174
here's a heartbreaking loss for you: i have a rockies fantasy draft dynasty and i was at home against the padre's, we battle the whole game, it goest to the top of the 18th tied at 3. i bring in flash gordon (my closer) to try to keep it at 3-3, because i have griffey jr., pujols, and abreu up next half inning. within the matter of like 10 pitches the padres lead 9-3, and i ended up losing that game by that score. very heartbreaking.
