MarkB Posted August 1, 2005 Share Posted August 1, 2005 No, it IS retired through Major League Baseball, but the rule has been grandfathered to allow anyone using the number now to finish their careers using it if they wish, THEN, after they retire or are no longer using the number, no-one else will be able to use the number.
