According to sources Jason Giambi will be inserted into the lineup to replace struggling rookie Chris Smallenberg (.221-4-15). The Yankees, at 22-28, are still 9 1/2 games back of the front running Boston Red Sox in the AL East. The lone bright spot has been Scott Proctor and his 2.05 ERA. Matsui bashed 5 homers and batted in 15 runs over the last 10 games as the Yankees won 6 times. They have won 9 of their last 10 games, 18 of their last 20 games and 24 of their last 30 games. Surprisingly however they did not drop any games in the standings and still remain 5 1/2 games back of Boston in the East and 1/2 game out of the wild card race. Over the last 50 games the Yankees are 37-13. Its been a magical turnaround on all fronts. The recent slump, if you call it that, netted them only a 1/2 loss in the standings of the AL East. The Yankees won only 5 of their last 12 games and barely made into the playoffs. After defeating the Anaheim Angels in 5 games in the divisional round the Yankees meet the hated Boston Red Sox in the ALCS. The bullpen has changed somewhat but the kpey players from 2006 are back to make another run in 2007. The bullpen gave them fits in 2006 and seems to be on the same road in 2007. Much of the credit can go to the producing lineup lead by Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.
