Beef with Dynasty Mode

Here's the situation.. I started a dynasty as the Jays and the first series of the season is against Tampa Bay.. anyway.. first two games they use the lineups/rotation that was set in the roster before the dynasty started

Now that's normal but the third game (after losing the first two) they signed some minor league free agent and optimized their entire rosters making it rediculous..

changes:

some minor league guys now in the rotation

Aubrey Huff playing shortstop (WTF!?!?)

Julio Lugo benched

Alex Gonazlez in the minor leagues

and numerous other changes that make no sense

Huff doesn't play SS but since he plays multiple positions they set has 2nd position as UT.. he plays 3B, RF, 1B, LF but that's it

I really wished they would have allocated a defensive rating for each position instead of just a primary and a secondary with -5 penalty for the secondary. Similar to they way it's been done in other games (2k games i think). A players ratings would look somthing like this.(I may be a bit off it's been a while)

Aubrey Huff

C 1b 2b 3b SS LF CF RF

20 60 20 60 20 60 40 60

It's more realistic that way and it would also consider positions the player has played in the past(minors, college) aswell as some logic.

For instance a player like Ryan Klesko has no secondary position in MVP 2005 when we all know he has played 1b in the past. One would also assume that a player who could play LF could also play RF if he had. At the very least he could play 1b and RF better than say someone who has never played it at all. Take Jim Thome for example. He's a 1b and has been for a while. However all through the minors he played a lot of 3b. So when handing out ratings by position you would have to give him a higher rating at 3b than SS, even if he wasnt that great at 3b. (in a game it gives you more flexibility)

It also included some logic. Take an athletic defensively sound SS. Chances are this player could play second if he had to. There is a reason he is a SS and usually what sperates a good defensive SS from a 2b is arm strength and overall familiarity with a position. So could Jimmy Rollins play 2b with out a problem? Sure. The only thing that would make him slightly worse at 2b is just the mental aspect.

If I could add to that system I'd rarely make a players rating at a position 0. These are MLB players who've been around the game along time and a seasoned vet with some athletic ability could play out of position if he had to. It's been done before. I think the only players that could take a 0 at any position are pitchers, some catchers, and David Ortiz type players.

Yeh, 'optimize rosters' could be a lot better. I wish there was an option set as default where it would just optimized the rosters within each league., ie. just fill out the rosters/rotation in each league and not call up/send down/release/sign players. Ah well.

one way to fix that problem is to change Huff's secondary position to the same as his primary - then the computer won't move him. that was a big part of the Ultimate Roster Project a month or so ago in order to prevent things like that from happening, so, another way to go might be to re-start your dynasty with those rosters - it's a really great set. :wtg:
