Free Agent/hasbeen Dynasty

Using The Ultimate Rosters I decided that it would be fun to compose a team of all the Free Agent has-beens(sp) and under achievers contained in the free agent list (current as of today), I selected a team I would use to start my dynasty with, The Phillies. I then released every player on thier MLB roster and selected a team with the remaining players in the FA list. I'll still be using the Phillies Minor league players so I'll have few decent young players to work with that may end up making the big club.

This was going to be a lot harder than I thought. When looking at the pool of players I had to choose from I decided that I would focus on thier speed and defensive stats, as thier wasnt a lot of hitters over the 50 mark. For picthers I basically looked at youth and stamina.

I guess this sort of functioned as an expansion draft.

Notable draftees

Infielders

Brett Boone 2B Best overall hitter of the bunch at an extremly high salary

Rey Ordonez SS - Great defense and actually one of the the better hitters of the bunch

Herbert Perry 3B - Had a +80 defensive rating.

Steve Cox 1B - Was a good defensive player

OF

Tom Goodwin CF Good defense, speed, and an ok hitter, Probly will lead off

Rich Gomez OF - Second best overall hitter, above average speed and is only 28

Raul Mondesi RF - You know the story

Rene Reyes OF - Looks like a decent all around type of guy

UTIL

Desi Relaford UTIL- Some speed. some defense and is barely a +50 contact hitter

Donnies Sadler UTIL - Same as the above, minus the defense

C

Charles Johnson C - decent hitter, good defense

Bobby Estelllala C - Suprising power vs lefties, Ok defensively

Starting Pitchers

Aaron Sele - Best over all pitcher, also at an extremly high salary

Miguel Ascensio - Best young picther of the bunch

Bob Keppel - Had stamina over 70 and is only 22

Pat Strange - Cheap 24 year old

Seth Greisinger - Talk about an under achiver, lets hope he FINALLY lives up to being a once heralded prospect, even if its at 30.

Relivers

Bill Kotch - What happened to this guy? I hope he pretends he's in Toronto

Mark Guthrie - Solid lefty specialist

luke Propeck - Another former prospect, has some stamina, may start

Matt Ford - He was closer to the top and was young

Dan Reichert - Closer to the top. could also start

Thats about all I have to owrk with. Because I'm using whats on the minor league rosters I also have the following players, Gavin Floyed, Miguel Tejada, Cole Hamels, Ryan Howard all whom will be on the MLB roster. I also quickly signed some of the higher rated younger palyers that get created when you start a dynasty

Besides the Obvious the only limitation I am putting on myself is that I will not be allowed to sign any of the original phillies.

I will be playing on MVP level with my normal tweaks

My goals for this first season is simply to put up great numbers for my aging offensive players and hopefully deal them to a contender for decent young players at some point.

I started something like this. I did a fantasy draft and only drafted players in the top 100 prospect category.

Its kind of fun collecting those top 100 guys - they are kinda like virtual baseball cards.

Anywho some of them are really good.
