Its opening Day, Yankee Stadium, and the World Series Champion Red Sox are here to mark their terroritory, just months after they won the ALCS here in the Bronx. Both teams armed to the teeth with new stars, and both loosing them too. But the Yankees must defend their terroritory. Its do or die, as the Yankees try to land on 27th Heaven. Its now 7PM, Gametime. As manager Joe Torre looks to Randy Johnson to take the hill, against his former Teammate Curt Schilling. Signs all around the stadium read "Whose Your Daddy!" and "Curt Shelling". The National Anthem is played, and the team rushes onto the field, Johnson feeling like a rookie as he makes his debut as a New York Yankee

The first inning was nice for Boston, with Damon and Renteria down easy, Manny and Ortiz hit back to back doubles, and Trot Nixon hit a single to score Ortiz. "Nixon's single should have never happoned..." Jeter quoted after the game "I misjudged the ball, and it was just barely out of my reach."

The Yankees started a first inning rally, and with rookie Robinson Cano hitting a single and stealing second, Gary Sheffield hit a ball 326 feet, but just slicing foul inches away from the pole. Sheffield struckout, and A-Rod hit a fly to end the inning. But the Red Sox bats awoke again in the fifth, as Damon and Renteria hit singles to get on. Renteria fouled off 7 consecutive pitches, before hitting a ball low and outside the zone into the gap at short. The first pitch Manny saw, he parked over the centerfield wall, for a three run Home Run. It was at that pont that manager Joe Torre got Aaron Small and Allen Embree warming in the bullpen. Johnson then shut down the rest of the Sox in the fifth, but in the sisxt, Johnson gave up back to back HR's to Kevin Millar and Bill Mueller. In comes Aaron Small. Small gave up another homerun, and was replaced by Embree. Embree lasted from the seventh, to the nineth, when he was replaced by D May, who allowed two more home runs.

And with Curt Schilling thworing shutout ball into the nineth inning, with two out, Manager Joe Torre subsituted Bernie Williams for Ruben Sierra, and Sierra hit the first pitch over the old Yankees Bullpen for a 437 foot Home Run, the lone Yankees run.

Robinson Cano sparked another rally in the bottom of the fifth, but with one out, and A-rod at bat, A-rod hit a deep fly to Right, and Cano forgot how many outs there were, and ran to third, only to be trhown out by Trot Nixon at first. Gary Sheffield and Derek Jeter were robbed by the Redsox of Home Runs, Manny robbing Sheffield, and Nixon snagging Jeter's shot to right. A-rod also had a double taken away from third baseman Bill Miller.

When Steinbrenner was asked about what his Viewon Johnson, he said that if Johnson fails once more, he would be placed on the trading block. Steinbrenner said of Johnson, "Strike One."

Tuesday, April 5. Seond game of the season. Carl Pavano is hoping that this game wouldn't be as bad as Randy's season opener. As he bends down to pick up his spikes, he finds a baseball in his right cleat, meaning that he's to pitch. Although Mike Mussina was scheduled to pitch, Torre must have felt more secure going with Pavano, because only a few Red Sox players have seen him pitch before.

As Pavano takes the hill, he looks tward the Yankees dugout, and see's George Steinbrenner. Carl thinks of the comment thet George said about Randy in yestarday's paper, and the thought of being traded sends shivers down his spine. He didn'e want to loose his chance at a World Series ring. He then felt invincible.

He retired the first two batters easily, and then Manny Ramirez hit the ball to dead centerfield, only to go over the wall, and barely out of the grasp of a leaping Bernie Williams. Red Sox 1 Yankees X

Pavano shut down the next batter, and same with the second and third. in the bottom of the third, rookie Robinson Cano connected on a pitch from southpaw and former Yankee David Wells, and sent it into the old Yankees bullpen, 417 feet from home plate. Cano tied the game with one swing, and even gave a curtin call when prodded by Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez when he got into the dugout. "It felt great!" Cano said in an post-game interview, "I felt like I have lived a full live, and if I were to die tonight, I'd die a happy man because I hit a homerun in a Yankees uniform."

The next batter, Derek Jeter hit one of two doubles, and when attempting to steal third, was caught in a rundown, and advanced to third on a wild throw by Red Sox catcher Jason Veritek.

Since the Ramirez homer in the first, Pavano went on to retire the next nine batters, until David Ortiz hit a slow roller up the middle, and into center field for a single.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ruben Sierra led off with a bloop single to center field, but was caught trying to steal second, and was tagged out by Edgar Renteria.

To lead off the top of the eigth, Kevin Muellar hit a lead off single, and was replaced by pinch runner Jose Curz Jr. The next batter Mark Bellhorn, hit a liner to right field, and what should have been a single with runners on the corners, turned into a RBI triple for Bellhorn. Damon then singled to score Bellhorn, and Renteria hit an RBI triple to score Damon. Thats when Torre told Tom GOrdon to get loose in the bullpen. Pavano got one more out, and was replaced by Gordon who shut down the Red Sox throughout the rest of the game.

David Wells was replaced in the eigth by Mike Timlin, who got two batters out, and was replaced by C Bradford who got the last out of the eigth. Foulk was brought into the game in the nineth for the save, strikeing out two, and not giving up a hit. David Wells got the Win, Pavano the loss, and Foulk the save. Boston Red Sox win the game 4 to 1.

Kevin Brown was pulled from the starting rotation today, and Mussina started in in place. Mussina threw four innings of shutout baseball. In the bottom of the fourth, Rookie Robinson Cano Hit his second homer in as many games, and Sheffield responded right after with his first of blast's at Yankee Stadium today. That gave the Yankees not only an early two run lead, but the only time they had a lead throughout the series. But things weren't as smooth for Mussina in the fifth. To lead off the inning, Tino Martinez dropped a ball that Alex Rodriguez threw to first to get Kevin Millar out. Then on the first pitch that second batter of the inning, Bill Muellar saw, he parked it into the black at Yankee Stadium. Mark Bellhorn then Singled, forcing Joe Torre to get Embree throwing in the pen. After the Bellhorn single, Johnny Damon tripled, thus scoring Bellhorn. Edgar Renteria then hit a ball to medium deep right field, and scoring on the tap up, was Damon. Embree then shut down the rest of the inning, but the damage was done.

To lead off the bottom of the fifth, Tino Martinez hit a ball into the Yankees Bullpen for a two run homerun. Then in the sixth, Kevin Brown came in, and with two outs, gave up a two run homer to Kevin Millar, a shot over 447 feet. In the bottom of the sixth, Sheffield hit his second homer, and the Yankees trailed by two. In the bottom of the seventh, Sierra, pinch hitting for Giambi, hit a single, and Tino hit a soft grounder to Bellhorn at second, and what should have been an easy double play, turned into an error, with men on first and second. Bellhorn threw the ball into left field. But nothing happened, and the Yankees didn't get a man on base for the remainder of the game. In the nineth, Bellhorn on second, Damon on first, nobody out, Renteria tried to sac bunt to advance the runners for Manny, but Jorge Posada threw to third to get Bellhorn out. Keith Foulk came in to get the save, Red Sox 6, Yankees 4.

TRADE WINDS BREWING?

In an recent trade, the New York Yankees have traded SP Kevin Brown to San Deigo Padres for utility infielder Mark Loretta. Time will tell who this trade favors. Also, SP Aaron Small has been demoted to AAA Columbus, and 2B Ray Sanchez has been promoted to the Yankees. Randy Johnson and Jorge Posada added to trading block.

The Yankees started things off in fine fashion, Joe Torre giving the team a pep talk, with George Steinbrenner being the puppetmaster. After the "Were going to win!" speech, Torre handed the ball to Leiter, and said "Go get 'em!"

Leiter shut down the orioles 1-2-3 in the first, and Robinson Cano connected on his third homerun in as many days. Also, Alex Rodriguez doubled, giving him his first hit of the season.

But things got shakie in the second, with Sammy Sosa getting a leadoff single, and scoring on Palmero's tripple when the ball got past Matsui, and rolled to the wall.

In the bottom half though, Giambi hit a solo 431 foot shot into the upper deck, to give the Yankees an 2-1 lead.

But in the top of the fourth, Miguel Tajada hit an RBI double to centerfield, just barely missing a homerun, and hitting the 408 mark. Tino Martinez responded big, connecting on a 2 run homer over 337 feet.

Then in the bottom of the fifth, with Jeter on first, Cano hit a blooper over Melvin Mora's head, than brought Jeter around to score from first. That brought in Chen to replace Ponson.

Then the unthinkable happoned in the top of the sixth. With David Newhan hitting Al Lieter's first pitch over the right-centerfield wall. a 351 foot shot. But Gary Sheffield was injured trying to make a leaping-homer robbing catch, and strained his back. He had to be taken off the field by a cart. Ruben Sierra came in and played right field.

In the Yankees sixth, A-Rod hit a 397 foot homer, his first of the season. Matsui doubled then advanced to third when pitcher Chen threw a wild pickoff to second. Then scored on Posada's sac-fly.

Giambi had the last word, hitting his second homer of the Game at nearly 362 feet.

Lieter went six, allow five hits, 3 runs, and striking out 4.

replaced by May, May went 1/3 giving up one hit, dropping his era to 13.5

Tom Gordon came in, going 2 1/3 alllowing only two hits, replaced by Allen Embree to get Palmero for the final out.

Ponson went 4 2/3, giving up ten hits, seven runs, four homers, and striking out 2 with an era of 13.5

Chen went 3 1/3, giving the Yankees three hits, one run, and k'd 1, bringing his era to 2.7

OTHER YANKEES NEWS:

General manager, Brian Cashman, has removed Jorge Posada and Randy Johnson from the block, and declined comment as to why they were placed on and taken off.

(dont trade posada) there are not to many good catchers

Gary Sheffield's injury will sideline him for about ten days. He has been placed on the DL, and the Yankees are considering on which player to bring up, Melky Cabrera, or Bubba Crosby. (Feel free to make suggestions) eusaboohoo9xi.gif

Cano-one stop him?

Robinson Cano has hit his fourth homerun in as many games! Thats very rare just in general, but for a rookie to do that is simply unherd of! Cano connected for his solo shot in the bottom of the fourth off Henn, a shot that went 412 feet to deep centerfield. Also homering in that game were Jason Giambi (3) Alex Rodriguez twice (2) Tony Womak (1), Derek Jeter (1), and Hideki Matsui (1). In all, Shawn Chacon was powered by seven homers, as he sparkled in his Yankees debut.

Chacon got into trouble in the first, when Brian Roberts started off the game with a double, and later scored, but Jeter's blast in the bottom of the inning pulled the Yankees back.

The Yankees had their day outta the park, but they had a nightmare on the bases. With a rally killing double play in the third, and three caught stealing second base, Chacon needed the Yankees bats to come alive, and they did.

Then the Curse of the Bambino had its side-effects, to start off the sixth inning, Chacon was struck by a batted ball, and had to be taken off the field. He had broken his arm, and can miss anywhere's from 40-50 days    .

Tanyon Sturtz came into the game, and got the save, pitching four innings.

Chacon pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits punching-out 1 and settling with an era of 1.8. Also recieved the win.

Sturtz pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, k'd two and resting with an 4.5 era, and claiming the save.

Henn hurled 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits, five of those being Homeruns, and k'd one with an era of 23.14

Bruce Chen pitched 5 2/3 giving up three runs on six hits, two being homers, and resting with an 4 era.

(clockward)

From Giambi, to Cano, to A-Rod twice, the Yankees got their power. Tino caught stealing, amd Cano taken out at second, the wild throw from Cano to Tino at the break-up DP. Matsui going yard, Sammy and Mora talking about the loss, Sturtz throwing out Eric Burns after bobbling the ball, and, well, the last picture is self explanatory, Jay Gibbons being the batter.

ACT NOW:

With Shawn Chacon on the DL, the Yankees have many choices on who to bring up, Should they move Sturtz to starting role, and bring up a rp? OR Should May become the SP? Maybe bring up Jared Write, or Chen-Ming Wang. You decide, what you think best.

Rookie Sensation!!!!

The first big hit of the game came in the bottom of the second, as Tony Womak tripled with only one out. Tino Martinez grounded out to second, and as Womak was runing back to third, Melvin Mora tagged him for the final out of the inning in an inning-ending double play. Yankees manager Joe Torre came out to argue the call, but then was ejected by third Base Umpire Bill Frick.

In the top of the fourth, Brian Roberts hits a leadoff double, store third, and went home on a wild throw by Jorge Posada. A-Rod responded in the bottom hal of the inning with a monsterous homer to deep centerfield.

Jorge Posada was caught stealing second in the fifth, and in the sixth, Melvin Mora hit a blast into the Yankees bullpen. In the bottom of the sixth, A-Rod hit his second round-tripper of the game, and his fifth of the year.

Javy Lopez has hit in the back in the seventh, but failed to score. Jeter, Cano, and Bernie Williams hent deepin the seventh, Jeter's being a solo shot, as Bernies was a two run homer. Even more amazing, rookie Robinson Cano hit his fifth homer in as many games!

In the ninth, Jay Gibbins was hit in the head by a pitch, but stayed in the game, only to score on Brian Robinson's two-run homer, but that wasn't enough, as the Yankees went on to win 6:5.

Randy Johnson pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits, three runs, one homer, knocking out six and picking up the win. Johnson is now 1-1

Colter bean went 1 1/3 giving up two runs on two hits, and Brian Robinson's ninth inning homer.

Mariano Rivera pitched for the first time all year, pitching to on batter, and picking up the save.

Lopez went 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eleven hits, three homers, and one strikeout. His era is 3.95, and his rcord is 1-1

S Reed went 1 1/3, giving up two hits and runs on two homers, and getting one 'K' and resting with an 2.84 era.

orig39ad.png

(clockwise)

Torre being ejected, Baltimore dissapointment, Yankees cheering after Cano's homer, both catchers disapointed, Jeter taken out, after game celebration,

Gibbons beamed in the head, Jeter+Bernie+A-Rod+Mora going yard, Lopez hit in the side.

"Does anyone even read these?" I don't think so but you may get a couple of people here and there that may. I'm still trying to figure out why people write about a game and why people read about it. I know it is not just a small minority of people that write them too. I just don't get it-yet. No offense. I like your print screens. Thanks.

Ok, this is my 100th post and I'm so pumped up about that, and that people actually ream my posts.

April 11, 2005

The Yankees travel to Boston for a three game set, and the Red Sox are leading the American League East with an 5-1 record. The Yankees send Carl Pavano to the hill, to face former Yankee David Wells.

The Yankees were hitless in the first, and Boston got two hits, but failed to put any on the board. The Yankees went down 1-2-3 in the second, and with Bill Mueller on first, Carl Pavano threw to first and got the pickoff to end the inning.

The Yankees went down again 1-2-3 in the third, and Wells was flirting with a no-hitter. Then with Damon on first, Alex Cora hit a ball to Jeter, who threw to Cano to get the first out of a double play, but Johny Damon did a great job of breaking it up. But everything comes with its drawbacks, and Damon was injured with a strained right rib-cage.

The Yankees and the Red Sox were hitless in the fourth, but Alex Rodriguez started it off big in the fifth, ending Wells perfect game with a 364ft blast over the big green monster.

The Yankees didn't hold their lead for long though, as David Ortiz hit a 398 ft blast into the Red Sox bullpen to tie the game.

In the seventh, Trot Nixon robbed Hideki Marsui of an double by making an outstanding catch.

Kieth Foulk came into the game in the nineth, and pitched 1-2-3. But in the Bottom of the inning, Pavano got Ortiz out, but Trot Nixon hit the Game-ending Homer to deep right field. Pavano got the loss, and Foulk got the win.

Robinson Cano's homerun streak ends at five games.

Pavano pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, and getting the loss.

David wells pitched 8 innings, giving up one run on five hits, and getting the no decision.

Keith Foulk pitched one hitless inning, and picked up the win.

untitled5ac.png

(left-right,top-bottom)

Mueller pickedoff, Damon taking out Cano, Torre disagreeing with first base umpire, A-Rod's blast, Francona's reactment to A-Rod's blast. Ortiz ties it up, Nixon Robbs Matsui, Nixon's game ender, Yankee dissapointment (A-Rod and Russ Johnson).
