rolliefingers08
I know people have talked about being able to edit a file so that the buttons on your controller can do different things. I'm not talking about changing say, the down (#2) to up (#4), but I'm talking about a mod that would allow you to throw to the cutoff man and have the cutoff man let it through. This is one thing that ticks me off about MVP because it is something that happens in baseball all the time, but can't be done in the game. The situation is, say, a single to the LF gap. Normally your LF or CF jogs over, fields it, and tosses it to the cutoff man who tosses it to 2nd, not because there's a play there, but because that's just how it's done. But say the runner is fast and he decides to try for 2nd, and you're already throwing to the cutoff man, there should be a way to tell the cutoff man to let the ball go threw to 2nd base, where the play is. In real baseball, in most cases, you're trying to hit the base, and your throw should be on line to go through the cutoff and to the base. The way it is in the game would be fine, except if you throw to the base, a lot of times it's not cuttable because it's a big rainbow. Either the throws should be on line, or have the ability to make the cutoff man let it go. So is there any way to edit how the control works, or is it just wishful thinking? If you don't know what I'm talking about, AIM me (oakland ehs). Thanks.
medric822
I just avoid all this but thworing to the base, then if not needed, i cut it off.
AstroEric
I avoid all this by watching bloop singles trickle past my rookie centerfielder and bounce around Tal's Hill at Minute Maid. If the guy makes it home before you get the ball, you don't have to worry where you throw it. --Eric

rolliefingers08
so the answer is... just let eric byrnes dive for a ball 20 feet away from him? i suppose its not that farfetched at all. but seriously, nobody has an answer for this? it's often okay when just throwing to second, but the thing is, when throwing a shorter distance, the cutoff man is only there to cut the ball off if it's not on line to the base. but the throws are over his head and he can't cut them off no matter what. and throwing home from short outfield, it's usually a rainbow to the catcher when often its not on line or the play is no longer there and the cutoff guy just past the mound should be cutting to home or to another base depending on the runner. rolliefingers08
this didn't work for me. are you sure your guy just didn't catch the ball? because that's happened to me, but not because i pressed anything, just because the guy didn't catch it. he tried too. i held the cutoff button, outfielder throws it to him, and i hit it again when the ball i was in the air, and he still caught it. so? Sidewinder
To cutoff, you really have to hit the cutoff button very early. If you wait too long, it wont be cutoff. Usually, I hit the cutoff as soon as I throw the ball.

rolliefingers08
yeah, a way to stop the cutoff after i've decided to throw to it. it isn't the way it should be, but it's a way to make the game closer to how it is in real life. where the throw is to the base and a line drive throw as opposed to a rainbow. the cutoff man decides to cut it off if it's not on line to the base, or if the play is not even close. and medric, i don't know what you did. anyone else have an idea? AstroEric
I always throw to the base and if I need to cut off, I hit the cut off button. The unfortunate side effect is the throw is crappy and the cut off man takes waaaay too long to get to the ball. --Eric
