what files should be backed up

I think you should, in general, back up the database, stadiums, models.big, uniform.big, and portraits.big. If you are going to mod anything else that is not listed here, please do yourself a favour and do so.

And if you screw up and can't find the files, you don't need to reinstall the game. The originals are are disc one. Just click on My Computer, right click on the CD drive that disc one is in, and click Explore. From there on you can find all of the files. Some of them are in compressed folders, but they're all there.

so the files are not in comporessed format on the disc. Sounds like i really dont have to worry about backing up if all the files on the original disc are not compressed. I had thought they came compressed as in most games?????

Yep, you don't need to backup anything. It's all on your disc 1 and 2.

personally i would install one mod at a time make sure that mod works then back up your data folder that way if you install 15 mods and then the 16th causes your game to crash you will have a backup copy with the 15 mods that work installed

saves from having to install the mods over (plus sometimes a mod wont crash your game but if you try to reinstall it, it might)

That's a very, very good point torement. I've been doing that since the mods came out for this new game and I haven't had a problem yet.

If you are doing any modding, the advice you give is best of all. (unless you back up the entire game, which in my opinion is overkill)

Since if you put the files back in from scratch, (off the disk) you lose all the additions you added on your own.

My rule of thumb is simple, when I put in a new file no matter what it is, I create a backup of the file that preceded it.
