Player came back from retirement

20 years ago I traded for this 1st pick pitcher. 20 years later he retired. The next year I was surprised to see he was in the draft. I traded to get him back because I wanted him to only play with me in his career. He has gotten several Cy Young's. But that's besides the point. I was really surprised to see the guy drafted again.

That is not exactly what happened.

When you come out of retirement, you don't get drafted again like a rookie-you simply come out of retirement as a Free Agent.

Rookies you draft are randomly generated from a list of first and last names, as well as their race, hair style/color, and athletic ability. What you ran into is simply a matter of coincidence. Chance.

Although that's pretty cool, UncleMo has a potential point. The computer randomly generates players and names. Something along these lines has happened to me. I drafted a guy and than about 6 years later, someone with the same name came out and I drafted him as well. So instead of this pitcher going 12-4 with 150 K's, he went 23-7 with 311 K's because there were two of them. They both had each others stats and their own.

What I'm saying is what probably happened was that the computer generated the name and recognized it's history and generated the stats as well. Like Mo, chance.
