fenway389
I am using FlashGet as my download manager with a dial up connection. Ever since the site has been upgraded, I am unable to restart a download after I pause it. What I mean by that is, if I pause a large download ( i.e.Big Shmooze Roster and Umachines uniforms, 216.18 mb.) and try to restart after a while I am unable to. I was wondering if this is an issue that can be fixed or if the server (site) is unable to support restarting downloads. Thanks.
MarkB
If you're using Mozilla Firefox, you can pause and restart downloads using the bulilt-in download manager. Just start downloading using Firefox and press CTRL + J to see the download manager options and information.
RAM
i had the same issue when i had dial up as well. either with the firefox default download manager or flash got. but in my case it was with the old site setup. now i have broadband i haven't really tried to pause a dload. but man a 216MB file w/ dial up i have to commend your bravery that must take a good few days huh? i'd be worried of file corruption dloading a file that big on a dial up connection. i feel your pain though as i lived out in the boonies for 7 years where only dial up was available. first thing i did once i moved back to civilization is get a cable connection. best thing i ever did. fenway389
MarkB Thanks for the idea but that didn't solve my problem. What I like to do when downloading a large file file is, forward my calls to my cell, let the download run overnight, then in the morning, pause it, shut my computer down and then restart the downlaod later that night. When downloading with Firefox, I have to cancel the download when I close the window. I was able to do this before the upgrade with no problem, and was wondering why I can't now. RAM, I, to, live in the boonies and am waiting for high speed to be available. I'm hoping for the end of the year. As far as file corruption, that's never been problem (so far). A download that size usually takes about 14 to 20 hours, total. OUCH.
MarkB
Yeah, that's a problem I've noticed with the FF download manager, it can't run externally without the Firefox application being open. I'd suggest just leaving the PC on, if possible. Another option would be to hibernate it so that when you resume working on your PC, Windows is loaded in the exact same state you left it. OUCH. i hear you bro, been there done that. actually i've only had a brodband connection for like 4 weeks. problem with me was i lived mainly around farmers and ranchers and they wouldn't allow the phone co or cable co to lay the proper lines through their land. EVEN after they were offered free service for life! so i was NEVER going to get it EVER. go figure huh? thank god my landlords decided to sell off their land and force me back to the city. add to that the fact that i'm majoring in network engineering so i would be working at school on networks that transfered data anywhere between 100MBPS- 1GBPS, only to come home to the soothing squeaky sounds of my analog modem, talk about buzzkill! anyhow i did the turn the monitor off thing myslef overnight on a lot of downloads. never tried a big file like that one though. good luck and hope you get some broadband soon man. i'm one of the few that understands that is isn't necessarily a financial thing. it's just some places just don't have broadband. what can you do? move?
