taurus
Pun intended...:chin: Well, I've finally decided to register here after months of lurking as an anonymous dynasty viewer. I'm a die hard BJ fan...and I love the Toronto Blue Jays as well. Hence the dynasty name. Anywho, more information is coming. This will be a detailed dynasty, driven by a passion for the game, especially from a GM perspective. I look forward to bringing a new, exciting spin on the Blue Jays franchise. taurus
With a name like rolliefingers, I'd say you were more of a handjob type of guy. :lmao: But see...the dynasty name got attention. That's what I wanted. Hopefully no one takes it as 'inappropriate', as I'm trying to be subtle about it. I really want to put forth a solid, interesting dynasty read. Okay, lets say that JP was looking for an assistant because his Pimping job was taking up a lot of time. That's where I come in...Dave T. I will take an agressive attack on helping to polish off the great team, top to bottom, that JP has put together over the last few years. I understand the value of a dollar, and was born to be a scout, so hopefully these skills will help the Blue Jays in 2005 and beyond. Side Notes I have set the sliders above as I find it creates a more realistic gameplay. Pitches will actually walk batters from time to time, and in turn, their pitch counts will be more believable. At first, I will be updating each game on here, to see how much interest is generated. I will be playing every major league game, and probably one game a week for each minor league club (likely Sundays) in order to get a feel for those players. If this thing is interesting enough to have a following, I'll create a standalone website and go into more detail there. Either way, I'll be looking to make every post interesting. Your comments are always welcome. And I warn you, there may be more than one innuendo slipped in from time to time...oops, there's one now. Lets hear it for BJs! taurus
Press Conference with Dave T Earlier today, the new Assistant GM of the Toronto Blue Jays held a press conference to address the media and the fans as to what goals he has in mind for this team. Here are some key points Dave mentioned when asked how he was planning to improve the team: "Well, I really like the work that JP has done here over the last few years. He's built a strong farm system, not to mention a competitive Major League club, but I think results speak for themselves, and we need a little more 'umph' out there." "No offence towards any of our players, because I think they've all done a fantastic job, but lets look at the cold hard facts. Vernon Wells, one of our key players, is not a Major League caliber #3 hitter. Nor is he a #4 hitter, for that matter. I'd like to find a few scary bats for 3 and 4, then bump Vernon to the 5 spot. I'd also like to see this team use it's speed more...and perhaps get a little quicker. I think the pitching staff looks outstanding this year. However, with only $12million cap room, many players wanting to discuss their pay, and a high demand on talent, we may need to cut back somewhere. I'm just going to have to see what's out there, and deal from our strengths." "I'm one of those guys that believes in building stars. I will take a lot of time trying to win those championships at all three minor league levels, leaving Toronto with nothing but a superstar creating machine. I want to pack Dunedin, New Hampshire and Syracuse with as much talent as I do the Blue Jays, and have our fans all over know that we aren't putting everything into just one good year." Dave also mentioned his fondness of the ladies, although I don't see how that related to the press conference. It certainly seems, though, that he is not one to sell out to "The Man". He truly came across as a Blue Jay fan who wants the best for the Blue Jays and their fans alike.

taurus
BJ's in High Demand! Well, one day into the job, and Dave T is making headlines. The Blue Jays pulled off 3 trades today, and none were cost cutting. We will analyze them now. Sunday April 3rd 2005 - Trade #1 - Tampa Bay Devil Rays Toronto gets: (LF) Carl Crawford - signed for 4 years @ 4.80M / year - will report to the major league club (CF) Joey Gathright - signed for 1 year @ 300K / year - will report to AAA Syracuse Tampa Bay gets: (1B) Shae Hillenbrand - signed for 1 year @ 3.70M / year (SP) Scott Downs - signed for 1 year @ 300K / year (LF) Gabe Gross (from AAA) - signed for 1 year @ 300K / year GM Comment: In trading Shae Hillenbrand, we lose a hard-nosed, passionate baseball player. There's no doubting his work ethic, nor his hitting ability. Despite people saying that I just pulled this trade off to prove that I'm not in JP's back pocket, what with Shae being one of his prized pickups, that wasn't the reason. We have a plethora of young infielders who can do the job, not to mention a terrific glove in Koskie over at third. Not only that, but I've stated before, I want to try to find a scary bat for our lineup, and 1B is one of the easier positions to find that at. Scott Downs is the type of pitcher that is effective, and yet, you can find rather easily. He had already made it clear that he was more than unhappy about his contract, and I wasn't ready to pay him more. He also did not want to head back to AAA, and I feel that David Bush was ready to return to the Major League club. Gabe Gross...wow, this is a guy that's sparked rumours for a while now. I do believe that he's going be a big player at some point. He's got a great arm in the field, he's a hell of an athlete, but he just didn't have that essence to make him stand out to me. Our organization needed a boost, and trading Gross was able to bring that in. Now onto the good that we received. Carl Crawford has quickly made a name for himself in the league. He can hit, he can steal, he can field...he can drive a pitcher crazy. He's the leadoff man that this team needed, and I felt it was necessary to get him. His price tag may be more than I was looking for, but he's locked in for 4 years, so I was happy with that. In Joey Gathright, we get a speed demon. Simple as that. This guy in an unbelievable fielder, one of the best bunters you'll ever see, and I'm pretty sure I clocked him going 150kmph (we're in Canada, eh?) on the 401. He needs to work with his bat in the minors for a bit, but I'm really excited about this one. Sunday April 3rd 2005 - Trade #2 - Philadelphia Phillies Toronto gets: (1B) Ryan Howard (from AAA) - signed for 2 years @ 500K / year - will report to AAA Syracuse Philadelphia gets: (SP) Chad Gaudin (from AAA) - signed for 1 year @ 300K / year GM Comment: Well, I don't know if I have to explain this one too much. Ryan Howard is a man who has sparked a lot of hype in the minors. He's got a power bat, but was in the tough position of being stuck behind Jim Thome in Philly. We helped him out. I dealt from our strengths, dealing a starting pitcher who, in all fairness, wouldn't probably make the Major League club as anything more than a reliever due to our current pitching staff. I felt that picking up the big bat was much more beneficial to us. Sunday April 3rd 2005 - Trade #3 - Texas Rangers Toronto gets: (SS) Michael Young - signed for 3 years @ 2.80M / year (RP) Ron Mahay - signed for 2 years @ 700K / year Texas gets: (SS) Russ Adams - signed for 1 year @ 400K / year (LF) Frank Catalanato - signed for 2 years @ 2.50M / year (SP) Chris Baker (from AAA) - signed for 1 year @ 100K / year GM Comment: Trading Russ and Frank was not an easy decision, as both myself and the fans love them. Russ has huge potential, and I may yet live to regret this move, and Frank is a solid .285 hitter. However, we are getting another young shortstop in return who has developed a great swing, and right now is more solid with the glove. Again, I dealt from out strengths, and Frank unfortunately was the odd man out. With Reed Johnson and now Carl Crawford out in left, Frank's defene was really the difference that sent him packing. Ron Mahay gives us another lefty in the bullpen for an affordable cost. He's effective, and I think he'll fit right in. We did have to give up one of our pitching prospects in return, but I think it was worth it.
carter
I want to try to find a scary bat for our lineup, and 1B is one of the easier positions to find that at. Oooooh, is Freddy McGriff returning???!
taurus
i never thought of batting V.Wells 5th. I like the idea. Yea, I got to thinking. Your #3 guy really should be your best hitter. He needs to spark a 2-out rally in the 1st if things aren't going well, or be able to drive in runs if the cleanup guy is slumping. I don't think Wells is that guy, being that he's a little streaky. On the 'real' Jays, I think he is hands down their best hitter, however that doesn't mean that he's a 'Major League' 3 guy. My opinion, of course. The #4 guy optimally should be a 40-HR guy. Sure, that may not happen, but that's my opinion of a 'Major League' clean up guy. Thanks for the input, though. Good to know my thoughts aren't for nothing. :spin: Hopefully the moves I've made, and may continue to make, will keep you and others interested. They all have a purpose. Thanks again for your comment.

taurus
Trade Rumours Dave T has been in heavy negotiations with several teams in search of at least one big bat for their lineup before the season gets underway. One of the main decisions to be made is on youngster Aaron Hill. Whether or not he's good enough to play a full time position at the Major League level, or even if his value on the trade market would be more beneficial. If Hill stays, that means the Koskie may go. Dave has been quoted as not wanting to drastically change the face of the team, however has also made it clear that he wants to make the changes necessary to put out a strong team. He'll do what he thinks benefits the team and the fans the most. Some names that have been dropped are Chicago's Paul Konerko, the Cub's Derek Lee, Cincinatti's Sean Casey and Adam Dunn, Baltimore's Raffy Palmero (the steroid policies are more lenient up here, what with the Metric system and all...:lmao:), not to mention a slew of minor leaguers that may be Major League ready. No one is really off limits to trade, according to Dave, if it will improve the team, but he also stressed in the same breath that he's building the organization, not just the major league club. He won't sell off the future for a rented player. On a side note, JP was seen getting plastered at a local pub. He was heard mumbling "go ahead...trade Hillenbrand...see if I care". taurus
Final Roster Moves - Season Starts Tomorrow! The Blue Jays' lineup received a big boost today just hours before the 2005 season kicked off. Dave T worked late into the night to put the best team he could on the field. Sunday April 3rd 2005 - Trade #4 - Chicago White Sox Toronto gets: (1B) Paul Konerko - signed for 1 year @ 8.5M / year Chicago (AL) gets: (SP) Ted Lilly - signed for 1 year @ 2.9M / year (1B) Eric Hinske - signed for 3 years @ 4.1M / year GM Comment: Well, we got one of the big bats that we were going after. Konerko is slow, so he'll be strictly station-to-station on the base paths, but he'll have lots of speed in front of him to drive in. The plan is to put him batting cleanup, and he'll likely be our DH. He does come costly, however he's a durable player and we expect not to lose him to injury. Paul has also shown interest in extending his contract with us, which was the deal maker for us. We did have to give up former Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske, however we clearly got an upgrade. True, Hinske is quicker and better at defence, however he's been in a multiple-year slump, and simply wasn't supplying the offence we needed of him. We also lost a great pitcher in Ted Lilly. His ability, as well as his cost were positives for us, however he was wanting quite a substancial raise at the end of this season, and we have lots of pitching to play with. Overall, I'm very happy with this move. Sunday April 3rd 2005 - Trade #5 - Cincinnati Reds Toronto gets: (1B) Sean Casey - signed for 2 years @ 7.9M / year Philadelphia gets: (RP) Miguel Batista - signed for 2 years @ 4.5M / year (RP) Jason Frasor - signed for 1 year @ 300K / year GM Comment: We got our second bat! By picking up Sean Casey, we solidify our lineup, and also put a great defender at the bag at first. We were also able to unload the contract of Batista, which at $4.5 million we felt was a little high for one of our relievers. Jason Frasor also left our club, and as much as he was a great arm, he was demanding more than we were willing to pay him for next year. We feel that we got full value in this trade, and our opening day lineup is set! Free Agent Signings Matt Franco - 1B/RF - 3 years @ 200K / year Tom Goodwin - CF/OF - 2 years @ 800K / year Victor Alvarez - SP - 2 years @ 1.2M / year Matt Ford - RP - 2 years @ 800K / year Kevin Olsen - RP - 3 years @ 600K / year - will report to AAA, and be used as a Starter Mike Romano - SP - 3 years @ 300K / year - will report to AAA Darren Blakely - RF/1B - 2 years @ 200K / year - will report to A Roster Moves David Bush - SP - (AAA -> Majors) Reed Johnson - LF - (Majors -> AAA) Jason Arnold - RP - (Majors -> AAA) Aaron Hill - SS/IF - (Majors -> AAA) Julius Matos - 2B/IF - (AAA -> Majors) Justin Singleton - CF/OF - (AAA -> AA) Anthony Sanders LF/OF - (AAA -> AA) Jose Umbria - C - (AA -> A) Ryan Roberts - 2B/SS - (A -> AA)
