MattStairmaster
Hey everyone, fantastidc site you've got here. Wish my first post was on better terms, but I am in the midst of a terrible problem. I recently re-installed the game (after deciding I had too many mods and wanted a fresh clean start). Well the game installs perfectly, no problems whatsoever, but when I go and click on the program icon to start the game, it goes to black screen but then quickly crashes back to the desktop. I've un-installed then re-installed. I've cleaned out all EA sports registry values then tried to re-install. I even tried a system restore back to a few months ago then tried an install. I'm at my wits end here, i've been without MVP for a little over 2 weeks now and it's killing me. Can anyone here offer some help? Thanks in advance! big shmooz
I wish I knew what to say. The only real suggestion I have is call EA. I never heard of a fresh install not working properly. Try turning off all your startup processes in msconfig & see if that helps. Perhaps there is some conflict with one of your programs. Then uninstall & reinstall. (make sure both mvp2005 folders are deleted by the uninstall) Other than that, as I stated above call EA. P.S. I am wondering what that black screen is. Because there is not supposed to be any black screen when you click on the icon. There is an MVP2005 mini screen that pops up & then you get the ea sports logo. MattStairmaster
Well, there always use to be a quick black screen during start-up, but now it crashes before it even gets going. Would installing in safe mode be the same as turning off all the startup processes in msconfig? I'm not too sure what msconfig is, but I am familiar with safe mode. The most frusterating thing about this is the same problem happend about 6 months ago when I un-installed the game. I remember spending about 2 weeks on the problem and finally got it to work somehow, but I think I re-formatted my hard drive and that solved it, but I can't remember what else I did. Thanks for the input, schmooz.
MattStairmaster
OH! I actually forgot to add a little piece of te story. Like I said before, this has happend twice before, but this time was a little different. I actually had a problem before I tried to re-install the game. Just out of the blue one day I started up MVP and it crashed to desktop very weirdly, with a long black screen. No game screen or logos came up. So it was after I saw this that I decided to re-install and the re-install wouldn't work either. So I guess my real problem is the crash to desktop, but I don't understand why it would still crash with a fresh install over and over. Does this shed a little light on a possible solution? Also, to throw another clue into the ring, I added new video card drivers about a month ago. They were tweaked by someone on the internet, they weren't the official ATI Radeon drivers. But then I removed them a week before trying MVP and replaced them with the current up-to-date drivers. I'm pretty sure I used the ATI Catalyst 'remove drivers' function, but could it be that I didn't remove all of the modded drivers and that is somehow affecting my game? big shmooz
MSconfig is a program that brings up your system configuration utility. You can adjust what processes you start up by unchecking things in the startup tab . You can use this also as a diagnostic to narrow down your problem by stopping other things from running. It is kinda similar to safe mode, but this is better since it can give you a "real life" type of situation for you to see what is wrong. It may be something like your drivers. (Funny, I said that before reading your last post.) Try reinstalling current video drivers. If they do not work properly, try reinstalling the last official drivers that worked. The issue may perhaps be a virus. Did you or anybody else change anything or add anything to your computer (or to the game) from the time the game worked last till the time you tried to start up the game? If so, this may be the culprit.
MattStairmaster
Well, it shouldn't be a virus or a mod that is causing the crash, because un-installing and re-installing should wipe all that clean. I'll go ahead and give the msconfig thing a shot today and see what happens. I appreciate your help, schmooz. Hopefully I can get this working, cause I REALLY wanna play MVP. MattStairmaster
Ok, I found out that I didn't have the latest sound drivers, so I installed those, but it's still not running. The only two things that were changed on my computer before this started happening were video drivers and a new sound card. Like I said before, I installed some modded drivers from the internet, not official ones from ATI. Then I got a new sound card, Sound Blaster Live 24 bit, but that was after I started having problems with MVP. So is there a way to fully wipe my computer clean of all video drivers and everything, and just start over? Maybe if i removed my video card and re-booted, then turned it off and re-inserted the card? Maybe something to simulate my inserting the video card for the first time. But this is all me assuming it's a video card issue. Any ideas on cleaning out my video drivers?
