RedSoxFox7
Say for example, it's two weeks before the deadline, and I've got David Wells pitching with a 9.xx ERA. Is it going to be any harder to move him with such poor performance than if he had a 0.90 ERA?

RedSoxFox7
I care because I can't anyone to take the bum. Obviously it's because I'm asking too much for him, but I want to know if I'm asking WAY too much because of his poor ERA.
cybernetic
I just place guys on the block and if an offer comes up that I like I'll take it but the CPU never offers any trades until at least around the all-star break
rolliefingers08
i've never been offered a trade that i considered worth accepting. they always want to send me minor league players for my every day guys, and it's not going to happen.

cybernetic
yeah a lot of the trade offers suck.. but I once got rid of Hinske for Chris Aguila from the Marlins.. although he isn't great.. he's an improvement There was another trade where they offered Robb Quinlan for Vinnie Chulk.. Chulk is basically an extra bullpen arm I wasn't gonna re-sign anyway for a guy who hit very well for me and became the everyday DH.
UncleMo
turn fair trades on off and then go and try to make a reasonable trade. i don't believe current performance affects your trade opportunities though.

cybernetic
one move I found works at times is to demote the guy and later promote him back up.. it worked the one time I traded Hinske and the Chulk time.
wickethewok
I think the only time player performance affects trades is indirectly - ie. a player is put on the trading blocks by another team for poor performance. It is much easier to get a guy who is on the trading block then someone who isnt. For example, I couldnt get Carl Crawford off of the Devil Rays for anybody from the Pirates before they put him on the block (they put him on the block because of the fact that they hadn't played him at all the entire season). The moment they did though, I was able to pick him up in exchange for my one of my bottom AAA SPs. So, I guess it is my belief that the answer to your question is no, except for the CPU putting their own players on the block. So, you'll probably have to take on a player with a big salary from the trading block to dump Wells. WickeThEwok
cybernetic
yeah I find they never play a lot of guys that are regulars in the majors and it's probably based on unrating by the roster creator.. for example there's no way Hanley Ramirez should be called up to the Red Sox and then benched and only used as a pinch runner
rolliefingers08
well in the 2nd season for me, ramirez becomes slightly better than renteria and renteria sits on the bench. i changed ramirez to 2nd base just so they could both be playing. ncsufreak2006
The CPU has offered me two trades. In my first year I was offered Tony Womack from NYY to me (NYM) for Chris Woodward and Victor Diaz. Probably not good for the long run, but Womack batted over .330 and became the everyday lead-off man and led me to a World Series title. This season, the Braves offered me Mark DeRosa for a minor league pitcher. Needless to say, I accepted. Now DeRosa is my super utility guy who can play outfield, and anywhere in the infield as well. He's batting over .300 in that role. Sometimes the CPU will make a silly offer, and I won't hesistate to accept.
