KernelPanic
Just wondering if I can get some good advise from all of the pro gammers out there on which is the best Gamepad to use? I am currently using a "Saitek P880 Dual Analog" GP and it will not allow me to get the complete function of the game. Without spending (cutting my arm and leg off) too much, which are the better GP's for MVP 2005? Thanks for all of you who take the time to get me the info. Jim825
What problems are you having with the P880? I've been using one since MVP2004 came out last year and I have been very happy with it.
1hotballa
I just bought a Saitek p2500, i bought it at wal mart, "which i hate doing"... i had trouble with my last controller, "i just could not get the old one configured right, couldnt dive/slide/control my at bat" does anybody know if the P2500 will allow me to do this? spitoon
I've been very happy with my Cordless Logitech Dual Action Rumblepad. I was NOT a Logitech fan, and it wasn't my first choice but the Saitek cordless one I bought was a piece of crap so I returned it for this one. I got it in February and changed the batteries for the first time just last week...pretty impressive since I've played 200+ games of MVP.
Moeg3000
Saiteks are good gamepads but sometimes the analog sticks doesnt work properly.Logitech dual action gamepads are too cheap. It easily breaks.I have the NYKO Airflo Controller.Very Strong like saitek controllers.Price is about $25. Tesh15
If you have a ps2 controller you can just play with your PS2 controller.. You just need a adapter which RadioShack always has. Its about $

Thanks I'm using a Saitek P2500 gamepad and everything works fine for me. All you need to do is make sure that the buttons are configured correctly in Controller.cfg (can be found in your MVP user files) and you are set to go. First Off, thanks for the reply, The problem I am having (maybe me..no help for that lol) is possibly in the configuration. Seems that I do not have the pick off function available. At least that is the only one that I am concerned with at the moment. Once I get that figured out, I'll go from there.

Yes, this was hard to figure out at first since it is not documented anywhere in the manual. To throw a pickoff throw, hold down the '7' button (the left trigger) and then press the button that corresponds to the base you want to throw to (4 = 1st base, 2 = 2nd base, 1 = 3rd base). If you hold the left trigger and press the '3' button, that will be a pitchout. Also, if you weren't aware, the default right stick functionality for slides is reversed for the P880 in the controller.cfg file. Using the default settings, pushing up gives you a feetfirst slide and pushing down gives you a headfirst slide. Pushing left has you slide to the outside of the bag and pushing right has you slide to the inside of the bag. If you modify your controller config. file with the following settings, it will make the slide controls work properly (up = headfirst, down = feetfirst, left = inside the bag, right = outside the bag): VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_RIGHT= axis- 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_LEFT= axis+ 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_UP= axis+ 3 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_DOWN= axis- 3 Hope this helps. KernelPanic
Hey Thanks to everyone for the help. A Big thanks to Jim825, what you just said worked. I had one foot out the door to get a new game pad until I read that last post and tried it. I have not modified the controler yet but if it works anything like the pickoff..man, I may never get off the game.. One more question though, Is there a trick to the pickoff move that makes the pitcher throw the ball to the bag faster? It does appear that the way I am throwing it, my grandmother could make it back in time. Does it work the same as the pitch to the plate? Thanks for helping a noob out........................ Glad to help. There's nothing I know of to throw faster, although the longer you hold down the "base" button (i.e. the button for the base you're throwing to), the more the throw meter will move toward the red area (like when you're pitching). This will make the throw harder and may get it to the base quicker, however, you have to remember that the more the meter is in the red, the higher the likelihood of an off-target throw. Also, you should remember that you won't get very many successful pickoffs. In all the months I've been playing, I've been lucky to get 8 - 10 successful pickoffs. Some have been runners on 1st and I've had a few runners on 2nd picked off.
big shmooz
Also, pitchers are rated as to how they can pickoff runners. If you have a pitcher with a better rating, he will have a faster move. But Jim825, you are correct. You can definitely decide to throw the ball faster to the bag, but then you risk making a wild throw. I have found that at least with fielders, the better they are rated, the less likely they are going to throw wild, even when you go into the red zone on the meter. (as it should be). I am not positive, but I would imagine with the pitchers it would be the same thing. The better the pickoff move rating you have, the less likely that if you go into the red zone, that your throw will be wild.

Its about $10 Now, this may be a dumb question so please be nice... :spin: I have the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad, which I'm not too fond of due to some calibration issues (every now and again I have to unplug it to reset the calibration, maybe once or twice every 2 games). I do not have a PS2 controller, but if I buy one of the Wal-Mart brand PS2 controllers and the adapter, will that work? I only ask this because of how particular this game is about the controllers, and I don't want to spend $30 or more for the next line up in Logitech when I already have this one.
