I tried making some portraits and followed the tutorial in the FAQ section by Krawhitham step by step, and was under the impression that process for making 2005 portraits was the same as in 2004. Anyway i got the fsh made and imported it using eagraph, but got only a black box instead of the portrait. it does not crash like in most cases, but i dont know what i did wrong.

I've only been modifying/creating MVP 2005 files for a few days but I spent many hours on Saturday and Sunday trying to figure out the same problem.

The issue is caused by a portrait's file instructions where the game reads the file not from the object number but a unique number to the file. If you use FSHED, you can, for example, take portait "0292.fsh" and rename the object to whatever number you want (see image 1, originally it would be 0292). However, the file will have instructions to read "0292" even if you rename the object name "2666" (see second image)

This can be modified by using Hex Editor and manually inputing the new object number. I use HHD Hex Editor. The number is located at the bottom right side (see third image). I've included an image to help.

And the other thing that may be causing your problem is you must compress the finished fsh file with eazip.exe before installing

btw, I'm currently working on an updated Mets Total Portraits set which includes 100+ portraits, it'll be finished in a week or so, so if you want some player pics I've got them

Thanks a lot Veesmack, this definitely helped get rid of the problem. Hory, im looking forward to your Mets set. Right now, im just trying to learn how to make portraits. I've managed to put some of their prospects in mets caps and unis. your portraits will probably turn out but i'd be happy to lend u a hand.

Right on, Jogar84! I'm glad I could help out. I was really frustrated the other day trying to make a portrait and it was really cool when I finally was able to see a portrait appear in my game without the crashing or black-only-portrait occurance.

Edit: This site is so awesome! I'm like a kid in a candy store here with so many people who are dedicated to making MVP Baseball files and modifications. For example, I just looked at your Cyberface tutorial and have learned so much as far using Oedit to help make head shapes. Before I just used existing models but now know I can go even further into editing player models without that limitation. Thanks for being a solid contributor here.
