cybernetic
Bush Almost Perfect as Jays Clobber O's Toronto Blue Jays 6, Baltimore Orioles 0 Above: Eric Hinske (2nd) and Orlando Hudson (4th) both homered in the game and combined for 6 RBI. 04/22/05 -- The entire game was well-played by the Jays, both offensively and pitching wise. Dave Bush took a perfect game into the 8th and the Jays scored 6 runs in support of him, all off Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera who took the loss (1-2) in just five innings of work. Bush's first hit of the game allowed was a 2-out double to Miguel Tejada who battled through a 9-pitch at-bat before taking a 3-2 fastball down the right-field line. Javy Lopez then singled and almost scored Tejada but he was thrown out at the plate on a strong throw by Jays left-fielder Reed Johnson. Bush went eight shutout innings and allowed just two hits. The Jays got on the board on a 2-run homer (2) from Eric Hinske who drove in Shea Hillenbrand who led-off the inning with a single in front of him, in the 2nd. Frank Menechino left the game in the bottom of the third inning after colliding with Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada to bust up a double play. He was diagnosed with a strained left ribcage and is expected to be out of action for the next two weeks. Orlando Hudson came in to replace him in the field in the 4th and also contributed offensively in the bottom of the frame by belting a 3-run homer (1) to make it 5-0. Eric Hinske would hit a lead-off triple in the sixth and chase Daniel Cabrera from the contest, he would later score on a 2-out RBI single from Orlando Hudson who went 2-for-2 with a homer and 4 RBI. Hudson was supposed to get the night off but was forced into the game due to the Menechino injury, Aaron Hill will start at second base tomorrow to give him a rest. "I was really laboring in the eighth there after Tejada made me work and he took a tough pitch down right-field line for a double. It was a slider low on just off the outside corner." - Dave Bush Jays notes: Alex Rios, Shea Hillenbrand, Eric Hinske and Orlando Hudson each had 2-hit games. Following the game, SP Gustavo Chacin was activated from the DL to start tomorrow's contest. Aaron Hill is also eligible to play after missing 3 games due to a minor injury. Frank Menechino went on the 15-DL to make room for Chacin. Dave Bush still has an ERA 0f 0.00 in four starts this season (3-0), opponents are just hitting .135 off him and he has 25 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. Outlook: Gustavo Chacin (0-0), fresh off the DL, makes just his 2nd start of the season after going down with a ribcage injury in his first start. cybernetic
Frank Menechino on the Block? 04/23/05 -- The Toronto Blue Jays may have picked one of the worst times to inform injured infielder Frank Menechino that the team will place him on the trading block, the same day he was placed on the 15-day DL with a ribcage injury. He also missed a couple games due to a leg injury earlier in the season. The team stated that they wanted to make room for Aaron Hill to get more regular playing time and that he (Menechino) rarely plays as it is. "We wanted to tell him earlier in the week but we didn't get a chance with Hill down for a few days there with an injury so we waited until Hill was ready to come back in to action." - John Gibbons
cybernetic
Mora Tags League for O's Win Baltimore Orioles 4, Toronto Blue Jays 3 Above: Corey Koskie tied the game with one swing of the bat in the 7th, Sosa leaps but it's into the bullpen. 04/23/05 -- The game was somewhat of a sea-saw battle as Russ Adams homered (9) to lead off the game, but the Jays failed to get anything else going in the inning. The Orioles got to Gustavo Chacin who was fresh of the DL for 5 straight singles in the top of the 2nd that plated 3 runs, all earned. Chacin would settle down though and get out of it with his team down 3-1. Orioles starter Erik Bedard was mowing down the Jays order getting a lot of week popouts and lineouts until the 7th where he got into trouble as Alex Rios reached on a Melvin Mora error to start the inning and Corey Koskie belted a 1-out 2-run homer ( to tie the game at 3. However, the lead was short-lived as Melvin Mora took a first pitch Brandon League fastball the other way to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead which they held on to for the victory. Gustavo Chacin went six innings allowing three runs on six hits, walked none and had a career high 9 strikeouts in a no decision. Brandon League got the loss (0-2) in two innings of relief, the only hit he allowed was the Melvin Mora solo homer. He walked none and had a strikeout. Erik Bedard actually got the win (1-2) for the Orioles despite giving up the game-tying run in the bottom of the seven. He went seven innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on three hits, walked none and struck out four. B.J. Ryan got his 5th save of the season in an inning where he gave up a lead-off single to Russ Adams but got the next three batters out on 2 lineouts and a grounder. "I think I pitched pretty well tonight, I only had one bad inning. I had my cutter working very well for me against the right-handers in their lineup." - Gustavo Chacin Jays notes: Russ Adams now has 9 homers on the season and just 9 RBI as all his homers have been solo and he has no other RBI's. The Boston Red Sox (11-7) are now just 1/2 game behind the Jays (12-7) for the division lead. All 4 Jays hits tonight were from left-handed batters off left-handed pitchers. cybernetic
Ponson Shuts Down the Jays to Take Series for O's Baltimore Orioles 2, Toronto Blue Jays 0 Above: Melvin Mora belts a first inning 2-run homer. Right: Orioles Discuss the Win. 04/24/05 -- Sidney Ponson entered the game with a 2-1 record and an ERA of 4.82 but didn't pitch like it as he completely shut down the Jays offense. He didn't allow a hit until the 6th and allowed just 2 over a complete game shutout of the Jays. Alex Rios and Frank Catalanotto each had singles for the Jays in the game. The Orioles got on the board early as Brian Roberts singled to lead-off the game then Melvin Mora took Josh Towers out for a 2-run homer. Towers settled down yet struggled with command and gave up a lot of hits in five innings of work en route to a loss (1-2). Towers allowed eight hits, two runs, walked none and struck out five. Shaun Marcum pitched an effective four innings of one-hit long relief but the Jays couldn't get anything going off Ponson on the night who got the win (3-1). The majority of Ponson's outs came on weak grounders or popups as he mixed speeds very effectively. "It's just one of those nights where you run into a pitcher who mixed speeds and locations very well and keeps your offense off balance all game." - John Gibbons Jays notes: Both Russ Adams and Corey Koskie got the night off, although Koskie had a pitch-hit groundout in the 9th. Outlook: The Jays have an off-day Monday but then head out to Tampa Bay for a 3 game series against the Devil Rays. Roy Halladay, Ted Lilly and Dave Bush will start for the Jays in the series. cybernetic
D-Rays Extend Jays Skid to 3 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3, Toronto Blue Jays 2 Above: Russ Adams steps into his league-leading 10th homer in the 3rd to tie the game. Right: Rocco Baldelli looks up at an Eric Hinske 6th inning game tying homer. 04/25/05 -- The story line of today's game: Devil Rays won't give up. The Devil Rays took a 1-0 lead off Roy Halladay in the 2nd with 3 consecutive singles to score a run. Russ Adams tied it in the bottom of the third to straight-away center, his major-league leading 10th of the season. However, the Devil Rays get a solo homer off the bat of Travis Lee in the sixth to tie. Eric Hinske would tie the game again in the 7th for the Jays with a solo shot of his own (3), but Aubrey Huff hit a solo shot in the 8th to put the Devil Rays back up 3-2 and that's how it would end. Dewon Brazelton (2-2) got the win in seven innings of work allowing two runs on six hits, walked none and struck out six. Roy Halladay got the loss (3-2) going eight innings allowing three runs on eight hits, walked a batter and struck out eight. Denys Baez closed out the game for his 7th save of the season. "The offense isn't quite clicking on all cylinders. We had a good chance to go ahead in the seventh when both Corey Koskie and Shea Hillenbrand hit back-to-back singles to lead-off the inning but we failed to plate any of them as the next three batters flew out to deep right." - John Gibbons Jays notes: Russ Adams' 3rd inning homer was his 10th and he is one ahead of CWS 1B Paul Konerko who has 9. The Jays have now lost 3 straight by a combined score of 9-5. The Boston Red Sox have now tie the Jays (12-9) in the AL East Standings. cybernetic
Jays Walk Off to Victory Over D-Rays Toronto Blue Jays 2, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1 (12 innings) Above: Orlando Hudson gives the Jays a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Right: Joey Gathright looks at Frank Catalanotto's walk-off homer in the 12th. 04/26/05 -- Today's game was an all-out pitching duel between Ted Lilly and Mark Hendrickson. Hendrickson gave up a solo homer in the 2nd to Orlando Hudson (who hit 3-for-3 off him in the game) to make it 1-0 Jays. The Devil Rays came back in the fourth as Aubrey Huff hit an RBI-single to plate Julio Lugo who doubled to lead-off the inning. Until, the 9th, nothing really happened otherwise. Ted Lilly mowed the Devil Rays line up down, scattering just four hits over 8 2/3 innings of work in a no decison. He walked none and struck out 6. Justin Speier pitched 2 innings of no-hit shutout ball, followed by a no-hit inning from Scott Schoeneweis and 1/3 by Jason Frasor. In the bottom of the 9th, things got weird as Eric Hinske singled with 2-out the John Gibbons opted to pinch-hit Frank Catalanotto for Reed Johnson and he was intentionally walked. Here's the weird part, Gabe Gross came in to pinch hit for Aaron Hill and promptly hit a walk-off home run off the foul pole but for some reason it was ruled as a flyout to Joey Gathright who scaled the wall and caught it off the pole for the 3rd out. The Jays didn't get anything going again until the 12th where Catalanotto hit a walk-off solo homer off Lance Carter to seal the victory for the Jays. Jason Frasor (2-0) got the win and Lance Carter (0-1) got the loss. Carter went 4 1/3 innings in relief of Hendrickson and allowed just 3 hits and struck out 5. "What a win tonight although I'm very puzzled on the 9th inning call on the Gross home run. It's good that it didn't end up being a loss, hopefully we can build off this win here." - John Gibbons Outlook: Dave Bush will take the ball against Scott Kazmir in the rubber match of the series tomorrow. Right: Danys Baez with a fist-pump after nailing down the save for the D-Rays. 04/28/05 -- Dave Bush vs. Scott Kazmir II was living up to it's billing: a battle of two young promising hurlers. Both pitchers pitched extremely effectively. Kazmir had 8 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just 5 hits and striking out 10. Bush had 9 1/3 scoreless innings of 3-hit ball with 6 strikeouts. The game would require extra-innings despite a late 2-out rally by the Jays in the 9th as Alex Rios hit a double but failed to score as Shea Hillenbrand grounded out. Nothing was solved through 10 innings but in the 11th Damon Hollins drew a walk. Pinch-runner Joey Gathright stole 2nd and laterd scored on a Carl Crawford RBI single for the lone run of the game in a 1-0 Devil Rays win. Danys Baez nailed down his 8th save with a scoreless inning. cybernetic
Jays Acquire Huff 04/29/05 -- On the eve of the 3-game series loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the Jays have acquired RF/DH Aubrey Huff from the same Devil Rays in exchange for 1B/DH Eric Hinske and AAA SP Chad Gaudin. Hinske was hitting .226 with 3 homers and 5 RBI in 19 games. Gaudin was acquired in the off-season from the same Devil Rays for backup catcher Kevin Cash and they were upset they let him go. Gaudin was struggling in AAA with an ERA over 6 in 5 starts. Aubrey Huff was hitting a solid .341 with 5 homers and 15 RBI in 22 games with the Devil Rays and has spent his entire career with the Devil Rays since 2000. Huff is expected to be the everyday DH and occassionally play RF or 1B. Another move was also made as the Jays sent OF Gabe Gross down to AAA. Gross was hitting .000 in 9 games (21 at-bats) this season since his call up earlier in the year. RHP Francisco Rosario was called up to fill in the bullpen. Rosario had an ERA of 2.52, 0-2 record and 23 K's in 25 innings of work in Syracuse. He also had a save and walked just 6 batters. Gross was a 6th outfielder now with the acquisition of Huff and the team felt he would be better for him to play everyday in AAA. The team is also actively shopping LF Frank Catalanotto who is the 5th outfielder now, but with Huff DHing most nights he will likely play in LF vs. RHP's. "I'm really excited about this move. Huff is a proven run producer and power hitter and will slot in nicely #4 in our lineup. It's sad to see Hinske go but he fell out of favor with us after failing to live up to his rookie season in the past 3 seasons. The original plan was to move him at the deadline this year. Gaudin is a good pitching prospect but he doesn't have front of the rotation stuff and was struggling at AAA." - Jays GM L. Le.
cybernetic
Bronx Bombers Too Much for Jays New York Yankees 8, Toronto Blue Jays 2 Above: A-Rod rounds the bases after a 5th inning 2-run blast. Right: Robinson Cano belts a 6th inning grand slam off reliever Shaun Marcum. 04/29/05 -- The game seemed to be a pitcher's duel earlier but the Yankees turned out to be far too much for the Blue Jays on this night. A-Rod opened the scoring in the 5th after Derek Jeter was hit by a pitch a 2-run blast to left. Gustavo Chacin got in to trouble again in the bottom of the 6th after giving up a 1-out single to Jason Giambi, he then walked the next two batters and was really laboring. John Gibbons opted to pull him for rookie Shaun Marcum who served up a grand slam to fellow rookie Robinson Cano of the Yankees as they took a 6-0 lead. The grand slam was also Cano's first major league home run. Alex Rios hit a solo blast (2) to lead-off the 8th for the Jays to make it 6-1. Marcum returned for the 7th and would also give up a 2-run blast to Giambi as the Yankees took an 8-1 lead. The Jays got something going in the top of the 8th after Gregg Zaun hit a lead-off single to right, Orlando Hudson tripled to plate him but the Jays failed to score Hudson from third and lost the game 8-2. Gustavo Chacin absorbed the loss (0-1) going just 5 1/3 innings. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, walked 3 and struck out 4. Carl Pavano got the win for the Yankees (2-2) in a complete game 4-hit performance yielding just 2 runs on 4 hits, walked no one and struck out 12. Aubrey Huff went 0-for-4 in his Jays debut as the DH. Francisco Rosario made his big league debut in relief going 1 inning and striking out the side. "I was really excited to be making my big league debut here at Yankee Stadium. I just trusted my stuff though and had my off-speed stuff working." - Francisco Rosario "They're a veteran team that can really hammer you if you're missing your pitches." - John Gibbons Outlook: Josh Towers will take on Al Leiter in game 2 of the 3-game series. cybernetic
Jays Rally Late to Take Down Yankees Toronto Blue Jays 5, New York Yankees 4 (12 innings) Above: Derek Jeter hits a solo homer to open the scoring in the 3rd off Josh Towers. Right: Aubrey Huff hits his first homer as a Jay in the 7th, sparking a 3-run inning. 04/30/05 -- Early on, the game seemed to follow a similar trend to last night's game. The Yankees got in the board in the 3rd off a solo homer from Derek Jeter (1). They would add another in the inning on an RBI-single from Alex Rodriguez, plating Tony Womack who singled. The game back again the 4th as Robinson Cano hit a 2-run blast to make it 4-0. Josh Towers struggled with command after a good start to the game where the struck out the first 4 batters of the game and left after just 4 complete innings with his team trailing 4-0. On the other side, Al Leiter was cruising for the Jays having thrown 6 shutout innings before getting into trouble in the 7th. Aubrey Huff smacked the first pitch of the 7th out for a solo blast, his first as a Jay and 6th of the season. The blast sparked a rally as Shea Hillenbrand would follow with a solo blast 2 batters later to make it 4-2. Orlando Hudson would also later plate Reed Johnson who doubled on an RBI single, making it 4-3. Leiter would get out of the inning with his team still up by one. Tom Gordon would set the Jays down in order in the 8th, but Mariano Rivera got into trouble in the 9th. Shea Hillenbrand singled to lead-off the inning. Russ Adams came in to pinch run for him and later scored on a Frank Catalanotto pinch-hit RBI single after advancing on 2 groundballs to third. Adams would stay in the game at SS, moving Aaron Hill to 1B. For some reason, Joe Torre opted to keep Rivera in far too long and Orlando Hudson smacked a solo shot off him in the 12th to give the Jays a 5-4 lead. Miguel Batista would come in for the bottom of the frame and pick up his 6th save, yielding just a base hit to Tony Womack. "What a game! You gotta love it when you come back and rally to defeat a team as good as the Yankees." - Orlando Hudson Outlook: Roy Halladay vs. Kevin Brown in the rubber match tomorrow. Right: Hideki Matsui strikes out swinging on a Miguel Batista forkball to end the game. 05/01/05 -- The Jays opened the month of May on a high note, defeating the New York Yankees 2-1 in the rubber match of their 3-game set. The Jays runs came on two solo homers: Corey Koskie (9) in the 2nd and Russ Adams (11) in the 5th. In all, the Jays outhit the Yankees 10-7. The Yankees scored their lone run in a late 9th inning rally on an RBI-single by Alex Rodriguez that plated Tony Womack who singled earlier and stole 2nd. However, Miguel Bastista would strikeout Hideki Matsui to end the game with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Batista would get his 7th save in as many attempts. Roy Halladay got the win (4-2). He scattered 4 New York hits over 8 innings of work, walked 1 and struck out 5. Kevin Brown got the loss (1-3) going 8 2/3 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 10 hits, walked none and struck out 8. Ted Lilly the victor in a 1-0 Jays win (4-1). Lilly fanned 8 through just 6 innings and gave up 4 hits. The Jays scored the lone run of the game on an Alex Rios double with Aaron Hill on first. Hill would score all the way from first to make it 1-0 Jays and that is where it would stand as the Jays complete a shutout of the Orioles. 5 Jays pitchers were in the on it. Rodrigo Lopez got the loss (1-3) allowing just a run on 7 hits, walked a batter (intentionally) and struck out 7. cybernetic
Big 2nd Inning Seals 4th Straight Win Toronto Blue Jays 6, Baltimore Orioles 2 Above: Aubrey Huff leads off the 2nd with a solo jack to open the flood gates. Right: Frank Catalanotto drives in 2 on an RBI-double, also in the 2nd. 05/03/05 -- The game started off slowly as the Jays went down in order in the first. Dave Bush got into a jam in the bottom of the frame as he walked Melvin Mora to lead-off the game. After a Brian Roberts single, he also walked Miguel Tejada to load the bases with none out. He would then give up a single to Sammy Sosa to score 1, Brian Roberts was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on the shallow single. A double play off the bat of Javy Lopez would end the frame with the Jays only down 1-0. Aubrey Huff would hit a solo shot (7) to lead-off the 2nd and it seemed to spark a rally. Corey Koskie then follow with a double, Shea Hillenbrand would single, advancing him to 3rd and both of them would score as Frank Catalanotto doubled to left-centre to make it 3-1 Jays. All this coming with none out. Gregg Zaun would then single to plate Catalanotto. The next three batters would go down in order, stranding Zaun at first. Daniel Cabrera would settle down, until the 6th where Corey Koskie hit a solo jack (10) off him. He would leave after just 6 2/3 innings, surrendering 5 runs on 9 hits. Aubrey Huff would hit his 2nd solo shot of the night (9) in the top of the eighth off reliever John Maine to give the Jays a 6-1 edge. The Orioles would get a second run with a couple hits off rookie Francisco Rosario who was just making his 2nd major league appearances but that would be as close as it would get as Justin Speier pitched a perfect 9th to close the door as the Jays took it 6-2. Dave Bush got the win (4-0) going 6 1/3 innings allowing a run on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4. The run he allowed was just his first of the season in now his 5th start. Daniel Cabrera got the loss (1-4) and has been roughed up twice now by the Jays and has lost twice to them. "I was a little bit flat there in the first. My pitches weren't as crisp as they usually are and I got into a trouble, walked a couple guys. Right: Alex Rios catches a pinch-hit sac-fly from B.J. Surhoff that won the game. 05/04/05 -- An all-out pitching duel of young lefties: Gustavo Chacin vs. Erik Bedard. The Jays took the lead in the 3rd as Guillermo Quiroz scored on an RBI-single from Alex Rios. The O's would rally back though as Jay Gibbons drove in a run with a base-hit in the 4th to tie the game. The game would remain tied into the 8th where Shea Hillenbrand belted what looked like a solo homer to put the Jays ahead but leftfielder Eric Byrnes scaled the wall to bring it back. The Orioles got a couple guys on an eventually had runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out after a botched double play. They pinch hit B.J. Surhoff for Luis Matos and he delivered with an sac-fly to Alex Rios in centerfield that scored the winning run as they walked off to avoid the sweep. Gustavo Chacin went 6 1/3 innings in a no decision allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3. Erik Bedard also got a no decision. He went 8 innings allowing a run on 8 hits, walked no one and struck out 7. B.J. Ryan got the win (1-0) in a scoreless inning of relief. Miguel Batista would get the loss (0-1) surrendering a run on 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning. "I think I figured out some problems with my approach that I had in the past couple starts. I really had my cutter and change working tonight to get the righthanders out." - Gustavo Chacin Outlook: The Jays have an off-day tomorrow. Josh Towers will go in the opener against Orlando Hernandez in the opener against the White Sox on Friday. Transactions: The Jays recalled INF Jason Alfaro from AAA Syracuse and optioned RHP Shaun Marcum to Syracuse following the game. The move was made to give the Jays another back up infielder until Frank Menechino returns from the DL and to give the SkyChiefs another pitcher as they just lost Ismael Ramirez to the 60-day DL with a leg fracture. Right: Orlando Hudson drives in the only run of the game in the 5th. 05/06/05 -- In back-to-back nights, the Jays were involved in a low-scoring pitcher's duel, this time coming out on top over the White Sox. Josh Towers and Orlando Hernandez both which very well, unfortuntely for the White Sox, a couple errors cost them the game as they commited two errors on the night. One of the errors, a Geoff Blum throwing error that allowed Frank Catalanotto to advance to second after throwing away a routine groundout ball. Orlando Hudson would late drive him in with a base-hit to rightfield. Towers and the Jays bullpen would complete the shutout over the White Sox and win 1-0. cybernetic
Jays Bat Around in the 3rd, Take Game from White Sox Toronto Blue Jays 5, Chicago White Sox 2 Above: Miguel Batista applauds the team after picking up his 10th save. Right: The Jays infielders converge and converse about the the win. 05/07/05 -- The game started off pretty poorly as Roy Halladay walked Juan Uribe to lead-off the game. Uribe would later come in to score on a Paul Konerko single. A.J. Pierzynski would drive in the 2nd White Sox run in the 2nd on a single to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. White Sox third baseman Geoff Blum was injured on a colission with Jays shortstop Russ Adams on a failed attempt to break up a double play and left the game with a shoulder injury. Team doctors said he had a muscle tear in his shoulder and could miss 2 months on the DL. Jamie Burke came in to play third in his absense. Jon Garland had set down the Jays in order in the first two innings but things fell apart in the 3rd. Frank Catalanotto led it off with a single and the next 4 batters followed with singles of their own as the Jays tied the game quickly. Vernon Wells grounded into a double play, leaving Russ Adams on 3rd, but the hit parade continued as Huff, Koskie and Hillenbrand all hit singles to give the Jays a 5-2 lead. Frank Catalanotto ended the inning with a groundout to third baseman Jamie Burke. Roy Halladay settled down after his team gave him a lead and pitched 5 straight scoreless innings before leaving after 7 innings. Justin Speier and Miguel Batista shut the door with 2 perfect innings to give Batista his 10th save and Halladay his 5th win. Halladay is 5-2 now on the season. Garland falls to 1-3. He would go 7 innings and hold his team in there without allowing anymore runs but the White Sox failed to mount a comeback. "It really gave me a boost in confidence when the team batted around there in the 3rd. I was struggling with location early on and after a good rest there, I got things together." - Roy Halladay Transactions: The White Sox placed INF Geoff Blum on the 60-day DL with a torn right shoulder muscle. The Blue Jays optioned INF Jason Alfaro to AAA-Syracuse and activated INF Frank Menechino from the 15-day DL. Outlook: Ted Lilly takes the hill as the Jays go for the sweep against Mark Buehrle and the Chicago White Sox. Vernon Wells to be moved down in the order? cybernetic
Le Discusses Current Team 05/08/05 -- "I think we have a good team going forward. Wells is still trying to find his stroke and I think we're gonna move him down in the order, maybe to 6th in the near future. Adams, Rios and Hudson are really hitting well and so are Koskie and Huff. Menechino likely won't stay with the team much longer if Hill shows he belongs up here, which he did in April but he scuffled a bit near the end of the month and now into May. We may acquire another starter before mid-season, and possibly a catcher."
