Viceman2004
looks liek Vernon Wells is struggling in your dynasty. Believe it or not, Wells is .256/37/61 at the all-star break. He is on pace to break Bond's single season record. It will be interesting. Have you considered Marcum and Arnold as a part of your Jays future? I already called them up and doing well. Marcum (SP) - 2-1 4.61 era Arnold (SU) 1-0 2.98 era give them a look. Its good to see you are keeping pace with Boston. I'm 10.5 games back and under .500. (hoping for a better 2nd half...) cybernetic
I called up Marcum and he is too wild so I sent him back down. Arnold had an ERA over 6 in a lot of innings of work so I released him.

cybernetic
Jays Walk Off to Win 20 Inning Marathon, Sweep Chi Sox Toronto Blue Jays 2, Chicago White Sox 1 (20 Innings) Above: Paul Konerko hits a solo jack in the first to put the White Sox up. Right: Alex Rios busts up Mark Buehrle's no-hit bid in the 7th with a single. 05/08/05 -- The game started out going the White Sox way as Paul Konerko hit a 2-out solo homer off Ted Lilly in the top of the first. Mark Buehrle was also perfect on the mound through 6 innings retiring every batter he faced, but a one-out single by Alex Rios broke up his no-hit aspirations. The Jays wouldn't score in the 7th but would in the 8th as Reed Johnson scored Aaron Hill who stole 2nd after a single on an RBI-single. Ted Lilly settled down extremely well after the first inning Konerko homer and allowed just one more hit in his 9 innings of work. The one other hit being a single from Juan Uribe. The game would require extra innings as neither team could get anything going offensively. Justin Speier and Jason Frasor each pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief for the Jays allowing just 1 hit in that span. Vernon Wells would triple to lead-off the 20th inning and Ozzie Guillen would go to the lefty Neal Cotts to face lefties Aubrey Huff and Corey Koskie. In a bizzare move, they opted to intentionally walk both of them to face Frank Catalanotto. Cotts was preoccupied with Wells' lead at 3rd and attempted to pick him off a few times before missing on the 4th try and throwing it away. Wells would score to give the Jays a walk off victory and a series sweep of the White Sox. "That was a weird way to win the game but we'll take it." - Vernon Wells Transactions: None. Outlook: The Jays welcome to Royals for the 3-game set starting tomorrow. Dave Bush, Josh Towers and Gustavo Chacin will take the hill for the Jays in the series. cybernetic
Jays Squeeze Out 4th Straight with Win over KC Toronto Blue Jays 2, Kansas City Royals 0 Above: Gregg Zaun singles in the 6th to score Frank Catalanotto. Right: Mike Sweeney strikes out swinging to end the game. 05/09/05 -- For the first 5 innings, it seemed to be an all out pitcher's duel and a very strong performance from Dave Bush might go to waste for the 2nd time this season. Frank Catalanotto reached on a 2-base error to shortstop Angel Berroa to lead off the 6th and would score as the next batter, Gregg Zaun, singled to right-field to score him for the first run of the game. The Jays would add a second run in the 8th on a solo homer (12) from Russ Adams. Miguel Batista would throw a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout for save #11 on the season. Dave Bush got the win (5-0) in 7 scoreless innings of work. He allowed just 3 hits, walked a batter and struck out 5 batters. Runelvys Hernandez got the loss for the Royals (2-1). He went 7 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 6 hits, walked no one and struck out 7. cybernetic
Jays Take 5th Straight Despite Anemic Offense Toronto Blue Jays 1, Kansas City Royals 0 05/10/05 -- For the entire game, both teams were locked in a pitching duel. Gustavo Chacin and Zack Greinke matched eachother pitch for pitch and their lines were almost identical. Chacin left the game after 7 1/3 innings due to a leg injury he suffered on a come-backer. Team doctors diagnosed him with a fractured leg and he is expected to miss about 6 weeks. He was throwing a 2-hit shutout when he was forced to leave the game. Greinke went 7 2/3 shutout innings as well. D.J. Carrasco relieved Grienke and went 9 1/3 scoreless innings before running into trouble in the 18th. A lead-off single from Aaron Hill prompted Buddy Bell to pull him for Jeremy Affeldt. Affeldt then gave up an RBI double to Reed Johnson that scored Hill as the Jays walked off to victory. The Jays exhausted their entire bullpen and would have been forced to use closer Miguel Batista for several innings if needed but thankfully it was not. The Jays have now taken 5 straight games and have now caught the Boston Red Sox and tied them for the AL East lead with identical 22-12 records. "I finally got back into that rhythm I had last year when I was named the minor league pitcher of the year. Unfortunately, another injury will set me back for another 6 weeks or so." - Gustavo Chacin Transactions: TOR placed LHP Gustavo Chacin on the 15-day DL (fractured leg) and recalled RHP Shaun Marcum from Triple-A Syracuse. Jays notes: RHP Francisco Rosario will take Chacin's spot in the rotation for the time being. Rosario earned the start going 4 2/3 scoreless innings tonight. cybernetic
Jays Come Up Just Short of Royal Sweep Kansas City Royals 2, Toronto Blue Jays 1 05/11/05 -- The Jays offensive struggles continued although the casual follower wouldn't know it as the Jays were riding a 5-game winning streak and poised to sweep the Royals. Jays starter Josh Towers got into trouble right away in the top of the first as he allowed 3 hits to the first 4 batters he faced and 2 runs. He would get out of it with just that 2-0 defecit and eventually go 6 1/3 innings just allowing those 2 runs. Corey Koskie put the Jays on the board with a solo swat off Royals' Mike Wood to make it 2-1 but that was as close as it would get as the Jays fell 2-1. "My change-up was flat and they got both their RBI's off of it so I just stopped throwing it after the first." - Josh Towers Transactions: None. cybernetic
Halladay Shuts Down Indians Toronto Blue Jays 1, Cleveland Indians 0 05/13/05 -- Roy Halladay showed why he won the Cy Young in 2003, completely shutting down the Cleveland Indians offense. Halladay allowed just 2 hits en route to a complete game shutout and his 6th win of the season (6-2). He allowed just a double in the first and a single in the 9th (both to Travis Hafner). Aubrey Huff had an RBI-double in the 4th that plated Vernon Wells who singled earlier in the inning and that was all Halladay needed. Scott Elarton was decent on the mound for the Indians, also throwing a complete game but coming up on the losing end (1-1). He allowed 10 hits and got out of frequent jams to keep his team in there. "What a performance! If he doesn't win the Cy this year, it's robbery!" - Gregg Zaun "I've been working a lot of with Mickey (Brantley) and I think I've figured out the reason for my early season struggles.
