Wierd bug...

I searched for this and couldn't find it, so if this is a known bug, my apologies.

I had Mulder on first, and he got hurt breaking up a DP (also he was out at second.) The game would not let me start again untill I picked a pintch hitter for him, even though he probably wasn't going bat again that inning. And of course I couldn't pick a pitcher to take his place, it had to be a bench player. And of course when it came time to pitch, that bench player went bye bye, so not only do I lose my starting pitcher, I lose a bat off the bench.

Thankfully, this was in an exhibition game (I wanted to play in an unlocked stadium), but in a game that counted, I would have really been heated.

Has anyone else seen this?

Never encountered that but I once had something somewhat similar where I had a pinch hitter with two-out for a pitcher in an inter-league game and the guy on first was caught stealing so the pitch hitter went to waste but I guess that's pretty different

It is not a wierd bug it is called stupid national league rules. I am a cardinal fan as you seen I just hate NL rules!!! I have played college baseball for three yrs we always had the DH. Watching the Cardinals on TV or in person and seeing the pitcher come up I just go to the jon it is a waste of time to play or watch with nl rules!! The managers in the NL that say they have do not have any manager desicions are full of it.. In the AL they still can do bunting, defence subs, pinch-hitting and it helps make watching the pitching staff a lot easier. theycould make changes if the hitters were having a bad night at the plate!! And most importantly you do not use up all of your bench or pitchers. I always use the DH in any game I play. You also get the oppointancy to have a extra player to hit and play..

Can you show me where in the rules where, if the pitcher makes an out while running the bases and gets hurt, you have to immediatly designate a bench player in his place, only to be replaced by a pitcher without ever taking the field?

Let me try explaining this again. Mulder got hurt making an out at second. The game then made me pick a pinch hitter, even though the chances are Mulder's spot was probably not coming up again (and in a real NL game, if Mulder's spot had come up again, only when the spot came up again would you have to select a pinch hitter). The game will not let you use pitchers as pinch hitters, or I would have put Marquis in there. Anyway, when the Cards took the field, I had to put a relief pitcher in, and my bench player was gone without ever doing a darn thing.

This is why I don't pinch hit for my pitcher untill he comes to the plate. Unless he is one of the first three batters of the inning, then I will select a pinch hitter at the beginning of the half inning.

Yeah it's a bug! And what about this: nobody ever gets hurt if you use all of your bench players! In real life that would mean that you have to sub pitcher in on the field, but not here... If you don't want anyone to get hurt just get all of your bench palyers in in the first inning...

It seems like to me that the game makes you do that? In real life you just put a new pitcher in when you back to defence!

That's what I'm saying. This is what I should have had to do instead of wasting a bench player.
