The Longest Trial : How the Nats won in 23 Innings

The game started off innocently enough at Washington's ballpark , at 7 : 30 PM EST. Little did those involved in the game know that this game would extend for over an hour and 30 minutes of real time , and try my patience. At times I felt like giving up , surrendering , after endless Nationals players flied and grounded out repeatedly. In the end , Livan Hernandez , the starter for the next game , finally broke a 4-4 tie in the 23rd inning with a home run to right center to end what may have been the longest game in MVP Baseball history.

It's 7 30 and the game has started. Their opponent this night was the Arizona Diamondbacks , led by Brad Halsey. The Nationals had Tony Armas Jr. pitching for them , hoping to rack their 3rd win of the year. The Nationals offense looked anemic as always , unable to score in the first inning. Like they would for most of this game , they had a lot of trouble hitting and constantly swang at pitches outside the strike zone. The game would go scoreless until the 4th , when the Diamondbacks erupted for a 3-0 lead. The Nationals would rally in the 5th inning to get 3 runs and tie the game up. Later the Nationals bullpen would blow a 3-3 tie and allow Arizona to take a 4-3 lead. Guillen homered in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game up. The score remained 4-4 for over 14 innings. During these 14 innings the Nationals pitched out of a bases loaded jam with 2 outs , cost themselves an opportunity to win the game when a runner tried to score from 2nd and was barely called out. The Nationals baserunners did not fare well either , often trying for 2nd and being tagged out. The Nationals had to use 2 starters due to a depleted bullpen , and in the end Livan Hernandez finally ended the nightmare with a 23rd inning home run.

What is your longest game ever played?

i could never have the patience or endurance to go 33 innings...if my game kept going after 23 innings i would have just caved in and walked 4 straight people to let them win...eventually my patience will run out.

I played a 23 inning game in '04 where I lost 1-0 or 2-1 I forget.. anyway it was going quick as everything I hit seemed to be a weak grounder/popup/flyout so things were moving quickly.. the CPU wasn't getting much off me either

the computer and i dueled off in another 1-1 extra innings game about a week ago. Eventually I got so tired of it that I gave up and simulated the rest of the game. I think the computer won in the 15th or something like that. After that I was so pissed off at the Nationals' inability to hit that I just lowered the difficulty to Rookie. Now I can't lose :(

haha, you wont believe this. i think yesterday i had a game go into the 32nd inning. ok here is what happened. in 7 innings aaron small had a perfect game going. my team (yankees) had like 8 hits. 0-0 ball game. in the 8th some dumbass hit a freakin single in which rob cano overan the ball. no hitter gone. but shutout still can happen. so in the 9th no one scores. aaron small, the pitcher starting, already has 21 stikeouts. no one got on base for the rangers (team i was playing) the rest of the game. yankees got on base but no one scored. my best player (me) hadnt hit a homerun yet but the blue jays kept walking him. stole 12 bases with him. left on the intire time. so in the 32nd my guy blasted a walk off grand slam. aaron small had 41 stikeouts. whats funny though is he didnt get the win. chris carpenter came in relief cuz small stamina was at 0%. so put him in, for 3 innings he was in. he was the winner.

aaron small: 41 stikeouts 30 innings pitched 1 hitter. a ND

chris carpenter: 6 stikeouts 3 innings pitched W

JT Johnson (me): walk off grand slam. 12 stolen bases. 4-6 with 10 walks

rangers: 6 batters had 6 or 5 stikeouts. 4 were hitless.

to make it more simpler. i won with a grand slam in the 32nd. aaron small had 41 stikeouts with 30 innings pitched. 1 hitter no decison. chris carpenter 6 stike outs, 3 innings pitched. picked up the W.

rangers held to 1 hit. 5 rangers had 5-6 stikeouts. 4 went hitless.

talk about a game. BEST GAME EVAR. better than the topic creators. :hail: me.

30 Innings pitched...41 Strikeouts....

I think a lot pitchers are happy having those no's on 5 or 6 outings together...

Dwayne says always: "You can stick a folk in this guy...he is done..."

I just lost me a 22 or 23 inning game last night...

2-1 was the score off small ball...

The other team used their next day's starter for like 5 innings (Sparks and his damn knuckler)...

I still have my setup and closer in the pen...

Then Sparks pitched the very next game for another 5 innings!!! WTH?

Still, I came back and beat them foos 2 - 0 complete game shutout...

Losing in this game actually seems satisfying...

BTW, I was 11 - 0 before losing the 22 inning game :(

I had a Dynasty on PS2 last year with the Padres. The game was late in the year, and I was playing the Braves. It went 17 innings, and had quite a finish. Linebrink was my pitcher, left a fat one over the heart of the plate, and Ryan Klesko hammered it over the right field fence at Petco. Yes, Ryan Klesko, the guy I had traded to the Braves just before the Trade Deadline. Irony. I guess he wasnt happy about being traded.

In my MVP baseball I was the Marlins v.s. the Cpu (Rangers) and it went 18 innings. The Cpu scored 3, and then I won with a grand slam.

In my NCAA I played v.s. my friend (i was FSU, he was Notre Dame) and in the 15th inning i just started to pound it on with 2 HR's, and 2 other runs.
