1hotballa
Used the search function but didnt find anything..... Just wondering if anybody will be creating the new Yankee stadium.... I know there is not much information on the new stadium, just some paintings, but I think it would be a cool idea
Sean O
I could probably do it, what with the oedit work involved, but frankly the design is so reprehensible there's extremely little chance I'd spend the time on it. There's a chance I may make my own New Yankee Stadium proposal in MVP, but as for the real one, I wouldn't count on it. God, I can't believe what a total failure that design is. Honestly I was expecting more from the new Yankee stadium myself, it really does kind of look like the one in place now, except the batting eye cafe and the seats underneath the upper deck..... Jeeper
Where have you guys seen the new design? I've only seen a few bad renderings so far.
Sean O
Where have you guys seen the new design? I've only seen a few bad renderings so far. Yeah, that's it. But no matter what media they put it in, the design is wretched. I mean, when you compare the design of the new Oakland park to it, it's a complete sea change. I can't believe anyone would approve that design. I mean, there's nothing interesting about the field, it doesn't recall Yankee Stadium at all, it's aesthetically embarassing, the sightlines are horrendous and the fans are going to be farther away from the action than any park in baseball, and it somehow manages to look worse than the current Yankee Stadium. I dislike the Yankees, there's no doubt about that, but I wouldn't know such a ridiculous amount about Yankee Stadium if I didn't respect it. But this? This is pathetic. nuf ced. Actually it's formatted after the original Yankee Stadium so it does "recall" Yankee Stadium at all.
NYYKing
yeah, it adds the copper frieze to the roof, where it was located in the old stadium. The field dimensions are the same as the current rendition, so it sorta combines the two renditions of the stadium and modernizing it at the same time. It's not THAT bad IMO. Also, the plan is far from finalized. They can still do some tweaks in the design since the Stadium is still 4 years away from completion.
Sean O
Actually it's formatted after the original Yankee Stadium so it does "recall" Yankee Stadium at all. But, no it really doesn't. It has the frieze, but it's made out of translucent plexiglas, so it's not really like the nice copper of the old one. The bleachers are completely different from any of the previous version, and I won't even get into the mess that is the exterior facade. Suffice to say, it's a terrible idea. If anything, this is a New New Yankee Stadium. It's almost as if the Yankee organization thinks the current park is aesthetically acceptable, which of course it is not, and just wants to build a new version. But even if the current park didn't suck, they're adding luxury boxes at the expense of the quality of about 30,000 seats. (Thanks ballparktour.com) As you can see there, the front row of the second deck is actually a worse seat than the back row of the current one. The third deck, instead of using the cabled concrete of the 76 renovation, puts that entire seating area in another zip code relative to the field. How great is that last row really going to be? So it doesn't capture any of the beauty of the classic park, adds a pointless, sightline-obstructing blob in center field, maintains the wretched dimensions of the current park, and neither forges a new path in design or honors the past. It will be a machine for extracting money from its patrons, but it certainly won't be a great place to watch a game.
