The_Jerk
Find some real hip-hop before judging a whole genre of music on what's considered "cool". Such as? EDIT - You want misogyny? Here you go. Isn't that nice? He took some time to put down the drugs and alcohol, stopped having casual sex with 'hoochies,' unloaded his guns and sat down to write a song about his mother. What a saint. And no one ever listed that song, and if you want to post lyrics to prove your point, here's some from the very next song on that album. I take a shot of Henessey now I'm strong enough to face the madness Nickel bag full of sess weed laced with hash That didn't take long, after the first two lines he's already drunk and high. Phone calls from my niggaz on the, other side Two childhood friends just died, I couldn't cry Of course you couldn't cry, you're stoned out of your mind and you're drunk, you were probably hallucinating the whole phone call. A damn shame, when will we ever change Maybe when you stop glorifying it. And what remains from a twelve gauge to the brain I don't know, what? Arguements with my Boo is true Why bother asking literal questions when you're not going to answer them? Maybe his attention span was short because of the drugs and alcohol. I spend mo' time with my niggaz than I do with you But everywhere it's the same thang, that's the game What's the game? Doing the same thing you just asked when it would ever change? I'll be hustling to make a mill-ion, lord knows Ain't no love for us ghetto children, so we cold Well than use some of those 'hustled millions' and buy the cold ghetto children some ******* homes. Rag top slowin down, time to stop for gas So now he's stoned and drunk, and now he's gone for a drive? Beep my horn for a hoochie with a proper ***, uhh Misogyny example #1. And weren't you just complaining about how you want to spend more time with your "Boo?" It ain't easy, that's my motto No, that's the song title. Everything in your life at this time is easy. Drinkin Tanqueray straight out the bottle And before he even sobers up, he's drinking again. Everybody wanna know if I'm insane No, we just want to know why you're hypocritical. My baby mama gotta mind full of silly games Why would you say that? Did she ask you about your drug addictions or your alcoholism? Or did she wonder why you're always chasing other women? And all the drama got me stressin like I'm hopeless, I can't cope What drama? You're life is easy. The only tough decisions you make are "what colour do I want my new car to be?" Me and the homies smokin roaches, cause we broke Where did that come from? He starts telling a story and then halfway through he starts a new one. And again, you're not broke, and again, drugs are illegal. Late night hangin out til the sunrise gettin high It sounds like you're high 24/7, and life seems pretty easy. Oh wait...it's not easy? Watchin the cops roll by Yeah, those damn racist cops who keep arresting all my homies for committing crimes. How dare they! It ain't easy... that's right It is easy, everything you have described has been calm and relaxed. Your day consisted of waking up, drinking and smoking weed, getting a phone call about your newly dead friends, and your response was to go cruising for women and then to smoke more weed until the morning, at which point you'll go to sleep, wake up again tomorrow and do the same. It ain't easy, being me Will I see the penitentiary, or will I stay free What a chorus. So profound and deep. And the only reason you will stay free is because of your celebrity status. (repeat 3X) Once for every felony. I can't sleep niggaz plottin on to kill me while I'm dreamin One symptom of chronic (no pun intended) drug use is paranoia. Wake up sweaty and screamin, cause I can hear them suckers schemin No, I think that's called withdrawl. You've clearly gone too far in between drinking binges. Probably paranoid, problem is, them punks be fantasizin How is that a problem? Would you rather it be real? A brother bite the bullet, open fire and I died I wonder why this the way it is, even now That sentence didn't make sense at all. I know you have to condense so it fits the rhythym, but come on. Lookin out for these killer kids, cause they wild Well clearly you did something to **** them off. Next time, just don't do that, and you won't be so paranoid. But I'm going to guess that you and your boys will get your own revenge, and then even more people die needlessly, but at least you'll look cool. Bill Clinton can you recognize a nigga representin What does Clinton have to do with this problem you have with these crazy kids? And how exaclty might a nigga 'represent?' Doin twenty to life in San Quentin Well if he didn't commit a crime, he wouldn't ahve that problem, and he could still be free to 'represent.' Gettin calls from my nigga Mike Tyson, ain't nuttin nice That's a double negative, so I guess Mike was calling him with good news. Yo 'Pac, do something righteous witcha life That's smart. Take advice from Mike Tyson. And even thou you innocent you still a nigga, so they figure How exactly is he innocent? He's already listed three or four separate crimes he's committed. Rather have you behind bars than triggers What's the difference? If he's behind a trigger than he's going to be behingd bars. Maybe just tell him, "stop owning guns." But I'm hold ya down and holla Thug Life, lickin shots Here's where you lost me buddy. I'll try to break down the sentence to understand it. "But I am hold ya down..." I think it would make sense if he said "I am going to hold you down," but that doesn't make any sense considering the conversation. "Holla Thug Life..." So he's telling him after he is held down, go to the streets and continually yell the phrase "Thug Life." I don't get it. lickin shots Til I see my niggaz free on the block I assume that 'licking shots' means to shoot bullets, and if so, this also makes no sense. And only one verse ago you were complaining about how 'we' never learn and you want it to change, but now you've changed your mind and now believe that violence leads to peace and freedom. But no it ain't easy, hahahah What's so funny? This is serious man, you just talked about gun violence and fearing life in prison, and now you're laughing? bout Peppermint Schnapps in Junior High hit the block Yay, more drinking. This time in junior high, so it was even more illegal. Keep an eye on the cops while D-Boys slang rocks So the D-Boys are throwing rocks, which I assume is a metaphor for something, like smoking crack, and you have to make sure the police don't get involved in that wholesome behavior? I was only seventeen, when I started servin fiends Did he just say he was a male prostitute for bad guys? Or does he mean he was murdering those bad guys? And I wish there was another way to stack a dollar There is, its called stay in school dumbass. So my apoli' Just say apology, it doesn't make you sond cool to make up words, you just sound stupid. Will I live to see tommorrow, am I fallin off? Well maybe if you didn't get involved in gang activity you wouldn't have to worry about that. I hit the weed and then proceed to say **** all of y'all He's a role model, right? Ain't nobody down with me I'm thuggin, I can't go home Man, that must be tough. Oh wait, no, you live in a mansion, you'll be fine. Cause muh-fuckers think I'm buggin, so now I'm in this high powered cell at the county jail I don't know what buggin' means, but it sounds bad. And you're in jail because you committed crimes. Punk judge got a grudge, can't post no bail, what do I do in these county blues Yeah, how dare that biased judge put a criminal in jail. And how could you post bail, I thought you had no money? Gettin battered and bruised by the you know who Yeah, every cop on earth just became one so they could beat black people. Damn them. Snakes ain't got enough nuts to replace me And it would be too hard for them to hold a microphone, and they usually don't smoke weed, and most snakes can't represent. But ain't nobody sayin much, the same old nuts is makin bucks while these sluts is gettin fucked Misogyny example #2, why would he care who is having sex if he is in jail? So basically this song was a complete mess, full of contradictions, double standards, misogyny, violence, and excessive use of drugs and alcohol. Why would you want to listen to something like that? MarkB
I won't quote your whole post since it's just too long, but as you so eloquently said yourself, you don't get it. Try actually thinking about the lyrics rather than taking everything literally and responding to each line individually.
The_Jerk
What I didn't get was why he cuts up sentences and starts a completely different thought thats totally unrelated to the verse. Try actually thinking about the lyrics rather than taking everything literally exactly what part of that song did I take literally that shouldn't have been? The part about the snake? Because that was a joke, because if it was a metaphor, it was a bad one. and responding to each line individually. So I should ignore half the lyircs? I guess I;m not as blissfully ignorant as most rap fans. And responding to say four or five lines together would be even harder, considering he can't stay on topic for that long. Maybe he has a low attention span from all the drug and alcohol abuse.

The_Jerk
I didn't mean to get so off topic, I just wanted to prove that I do know something about rap, and try to end the discussion there. even if you were willing to continue this discussion in its own thread, I've seen what those turn into, and it never solves anything. I'm cool to just drop this and get back to the random listing of songs.
