swt_spot
ok, i've been playing for a long time but i havn't really put a lot of attention to my pitching rotation... except for the staritng pitchers. So, what does the little acronyms (eg. SU,CP) mean when arranging your rotation for the relief pitchers? what significance does it make? I usually put random Relief pitchers on the empty spots. Hope you can help me..
stecropper
SU is for your Set UP man. CP is your Closer. I think they also show LRP & MRP which stands for your Long and Middle Reliefers.
KMet
Well, CP stands for closing pitcher, SU is the set up pitcher, MRP is middle relief Pitcher, LRP is Long Relief Pitcher. You want your best reliever as the closer, like K-Rod or Rivera, they come in in the ninth or maybe eight in close games. You typically want your next best reliever as a set up man, they typically precede the closer and are often used inthe eigth inning. Middle relief is used in the sixth and seventh inning, if a starter has thrown alot of pitches or has lost his "stuff" on the mound. Long relief is typically your sixth starter, he is used if your pitcher is just off in a game and you need a pitcher to pitch several innings. They are often seen in early innings after a starter has struggled early. Really it doesn't matter other than set up and closers warm up faster than other relievers. But that is a good formula to follow.
