Sidewinder
I saw the very latest gamepad from Saitek at Circuit City today. The P990 for $20 which does NOT have Rumble. New features are an additional two shoulder buttons and a new FPS (first person shooter) feature supposedly to enable console gamers to make the transition to PC FPS games easier. I havent been able to find any reviews online yet. Does anyone have hands-on experience with it or the other two new gamepads from Saitek and how they work with MVP? onewaydown
Nice. I may have to pick that up. I've been using the P880 for about a year, year and a half and I love it - it just needed 2 more buttons (which the P990 now has? or does it still call the analog stick/clicks 2 buttons?). It works great in MVP, other than I can't seem to railroad the catcher with the right analog stick. I've only done it once ever, so unless it's a perfectly timed thing, then the analog stick is a little twitchy.
Sidewinder
It's 4 shoulder buttons as well as the two analog stick buttons. Lots of buttons. I am having an issue though with the right stick used for sliding. The controls are off. What do you have in your controller config file for that? xiberger
It works great in MVP, other than I can't seem to railroad the catcher with the right analog stick. I've only done it once ever, so unless it's a perfectly timed thing, then the analog stick is a little twitchy. I'm using the P2500 rumble pad and I'm having no problems railroading the catcher. All you have to do is push the right analog stick upwards (or whatever your config for a head-first slide is) before you come close to home plate. If you are to close, the runner will simply slide, but if you do it earlier, you'll definitely get a collision at the plate. I am having an issue though with the right stick used for sliding. The controls are off. What do you have in your controller config file for that? My config for the right stick reads as follows: VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_RIGHT= axis- 3 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_LEFT= axis+ 3 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_UP= axis+ 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_DOWN= axis-
Jeeper
Do any of you have a Saitek Rumbleforce? I cannot for the life of me get the buttons setup for 5 pitches. I can ony get buttons 1-4 setup for pitching. I can't get 5 and 6 setup for it. If you have a setup. please post or PM your config for me.
xiberger
I might be wrong on this one, but I think you can't configure buttons 5 and 6 for pitches because they both have specific functions that can't be changed. Button 5 is necessary for pickoffs, and button 6 is used for the manager's menu. Don't know for sure, though...
Chewy
I recently bought the new saitek 2600 RumbleForce. It works exactly like my P880 did just added the Rumble. The only other difference is the analog sticks are not used as buttons 9 & 10 because it comes with 4 shoulder buttons. I paid $25 for it at CompUSA. Jeeper I will take a look at my controller congif file and pm you a copy.
Gordo
That's true....and I've asked about that here before. Map your 5th pitch to the R trigger. Button 6 is for pausing and making substitutions etc. But the question I have is what button or combinations are used for the quick pick off move? You can't map it in the game menus and I can't find it in the file when opening with notepad.
xiberger
To use the quick pickoff press button 7 + the corresponding base (1,2,4).
Chewy
For those interested, I forgot to mention another feature about the new Saitek 2600 Rumbleforce. It comes with a feature called FPS which allows you to configure the controller to play first person shooter games or any game that does not utilize a controller. It comes with a program that converts your keyboard config to the controller. It even allows you to assign multiple keystrokes to one button. It's a great feature for people that prefer using a controller as opposed to the standard keyboard and mouse config to control games.
Sidewinder
Chewy could you copy and paste your controller config here? I have had right analog stick problems with the sliding controls being haywire and the older models parameters are different. Also, the cutoff controls seems wierd too. Chewy
Again my controller config is for the new Saitek P2600 Rumbleforce, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with the P2500. profile= Saitek_P2600_Rumble_Force_Pad device= Saitek_P2600_Rumble_Force_Pad player= 1 number_of_buttons= 12 number_of_povs= 1 number_of_axis= 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_START= button 12 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_SELECT= not_assigned -1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_CROSS= button 2 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_CIRCLE= button 3 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_SQUARE= button 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_TRIANGLE= button 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L1= button 7 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R1= button 8 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L2= button 5 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R2= button 6 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L3= button 9 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R3= button 10 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_DPAD_UP= pov0 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_DPAD_DOWN= pov180 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_DPAD_LEFT= pov270 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_DPAD_RIGHT= pov90 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L_STICK_RIGHT= axis- 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L_STICK_LEFT= axis+ 1 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L_STICK_UP= axis+ 2 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_L_STICK_DOWN= axis- 2 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_RIGHT= axis- 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_LEFT= axis+ 4 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_UP= axis+ 3 VPAD_VIRTUAL_BUTTON_R_STICK_DOWN= axis- 3 VPAD_PITCH_1= button 2 VPAD_PITCH_2= button 3 VPAD_PITCH_3= button 1 VPAD_PITCH_4= button 4 VPAD_PITCH_5= button 8 VPAD_FIELD_PICK_OFF_THROW_FIRST= button 3 VPAD_FIELD_PICK_OFF_THROW_SECOND= button 4 VPAD_FIELD_PICK_OFF_THROW_THIRD= button 1 VPAD_PITCH_OUT= button 2 VPAD_THROW_BALL= button 5 VPAD_INTENTIONAL_WALK= button 9 VPAD_INTENTIONAL_HITBATTER= button 10 VPAD_PITCH_HISTORY_OPEN= button 9 VPAD_SWING_NORMAL= button 2 VPAD_SWING_BUNT= button 3 VPAD_CHARGE_MOUND= button 4 VPAD_FIELD_THROW_FIRST= button 3 VPAD_FIELD_THROW_SECOND= button 4 VPAD_FIELD_THROW_THIRD= button 1 VPAD_FIELD_THROW_HOME= button 2 VPAD_FIELD_SWITCH= button 7 VPAD_FIELD_RELAY_THROW= button 5 VPAD_FIELD_CUTOFF_THROW= button 6 VPAD_FIELD_FAKE_RUNDOWN_THROW= button 6 VPAD_RUNNER_FIRST_SELECT= button 3 VPAD_RUNNER_SECOND_SELECT= button 4 VPAD_RUNNER_THIRD_SELECT= button 1 VPAD_RUNNER_RUNFIRST= pov90 1 VPAD_RUNNER_RUNSECOND= pov0 1 VPAD_RUNNER_RUNTHIRD= pov270 1 VPAD_RUNNER_RUNHOME2SCORE= pov180 1 VPAD_BASERUNNER_ADVANCEALL= button 7 VPAD_BASERUNNER_RETREATALL= button

Sidewinder
That fixed the right stick sliding issue. Thanks How is the rumble with the 2600 and MVP. Personally, I think I like the Logitech Rumblepad 2 for MVP, but I can see how for FPS the new Saiteks would be better. But, for sports games, the Logitech seems to have a more automatic native config setup without the tweaks. But, then again I have grown accustomed to it too. I do like the size and D-pad of the Saiteks.
Chewy
Glad it worked Jeepers. Sidewinder, I've never used any other controller for PC gaming. I started out wih the Saitek P880 and really enjoyed it. I recently upgraded to the 2600 and enjoy it even more, especially with the FPS feature. I use the controller for all games I'm currently playing which is great because I was never comfortable using the keyboard and mouse to control games. TheNateGBent
I just got the P990! Man, that thing is awesome! The only prob is there isn't any rumble, so it'l be hard to tell a ball from a strike, but w/e. One thing, though. When ever I make a play, I automatically( thanks to xBox, which uses it to advance through the dull time between stuff) push button two, which is argue call. I cant seem to find any option to make it go away. I am really sick of getting my manager thrown out, can yall help?
Chewy
are you talking about skipping past stuff like the batter's stats and him setting up in the batter's box and replays? If so i believe to skip past this stuff you just press the same button you use to swing.
Sidewinder
On the P990. the hardwired button for Select is button 3 instead of 2. I tried to change it in the config file but it didnt make a difference.
TheNateGBent
I meant on xBox if you wanna skip the batter walking up and all that boring stuff, you could push A. On the 990, I can skip it, but I also trigger argue call, which gets on my nerves
Chewy
On my 880 (older version of the 990) to skip the "boring stuff" I just pressed the swing button (3) and button 2 was to argue a call. If you want I can PM you or post my config for my 880.
TheNateGBent
sure, post it. If I can't figure a way, I'll probably look for a better controller, its really stupid to have argue call, the least important function, on the most important button. Better yet, does anyone know if there is anyway to change it to some arbitrary button, or even a fake button? I see no need, ever, for this feature. TheNateGBent
Great! But I was looking through there, and I can't even find an argue call commandline. Am I missing something?
Chewy
I never changed the command line for argue calls. I used the above config and was able to use the swing button to bypass the "boring stuff".
