Best Loss Ever....

In terms of how exciting the game was. Playing as the Yankees...I was down 6-1 to Tampa...fought back in the 9th to make it 6-4. 2 Outs, runner on 1st and 2nd....and I pinch hit for Bubba Crosby with Tino Martinez.

With a 1-2 count....Not even trying to hit a home run...I loop a low line drive down the line....that the announcer gives his ole: Its gone if it stays fair....

(which of course would have given me a 7-6 lead)

And the ball....appears to go just fair of foul pole....but the ump calls it foul!

So I look at the replay from every angle imaginable...the ball was 100% fair...a blown call (hey, if this would happen in my playoff series, it would really imitate life!)....

So i send my manager out to argue, he gets thrown out....

The next pitch I foul off...

And then....swing and miss at a high fastball.

But damn...I never thought the game, in a video game would come down to a blown call! Kudos to EA for having their umps mimic Joe West!!!! :)

Nice loss.. if that makes any sense. I usually ground into a double play to end the game in tight situtaions like that. Think I probably hit at around .100 with runners in scoring position :D

I can't believe this is surprising to some. Since the MVP franchise started, there have been TONS of blown calls in my games played. I've seen line drives that hit outside the foul line that were called fair, and I even saw a runner called safe even though the first baseman's foot was barely on the bag. I have also had many instances where the runner was out at home even though he was clearly safe and vice versa.

I haven't had anything to the extent of a blown home run call, though.

I've never seen a home run call blown either, and I get lit up often enough to have seen one by now. But I have seen moving strike zones as the game goes on, bad calls on bang bang plays at first or second base, and a few line drive "hits" called fair down the lines that were clearly foul on the replay.

I think EA got the umpiring variations right with this game.

I always have Variable Umpires on...i always like the fact that some games I get a wide strike zone, and other times i get squeezed...it gives me an excuse for the way Randy Johnson pitches :)

But yeah...Ive seen alot of other calls blown...usually at first base...but this is the absolute first time ive ever seen this, regarding a home run. I mean from the replay...it just cleared the foul pole (probably should have taken a screen shot, oh well) by inches....but you don't expect to leave a video game talking about an umpire's judgement :) (But hey, im not complaining...it made the game really exciting)
