dweaver99027
Settings: ALL-STAR Sliders: Pared's THE ROSTER 1B - Doug Mientkiewicz: Excellent fielder , average batter. The Red Sox are still after him for ownership of that ball... Makes 3.7M with one year left on his contract. 2B - Kaz Matsui: Good player, but still not worth his 2y * 7,7 M p/y contract. Speedy and very good against LHP, is an above average fielder. 3B - David Wright: Up and coming, at the tender age of 22, is already an above average player and will probably continue to improve. Only earns 100K for this year, and is up for a hefty extension... SS - Jose Reyes: Ultra fast and a very good fielder, this 21 year old has the future ahead of him to become a star. His Batting needs work, but is still above average against LHP. he too is on a 1 year , 100K contract and is due for an extension. LF - Cliff Floyd: Uncle Cliffy is 32 years old but he still swings a mean bat that kills right handers and is a threat for a homer every time he steps on the plate... He is the team's 'designated slugger', and earns 6.3M per year for the next two seasons. CF - Carlos Beltran: An excellent fielder, very fast on the basepaths, fantastic basestealer and a powerful bat to boot, this guy is the team's highest paid player and rightfully so. Still only 27, he is due to earn the astronomical amount of 16.8M over the next 7 years. Carlos' grandkids are set for life, that's for sure. RF - Mike Cameron. This 32 year old is an excellent fielder with a strong arm. His batting is just average, but his defense should make up for it. His pricetag of 6.8M per year over the next 2 seasons is definitely high, though... C - Mike Piazza: Now in his 36th year of life, Mike is on the last year of his 14.9M p/y contract, and he still is a very good batter with a nice arm and a bat that frightens left handers... Bench: -Chris Woodward (SS/UTIL): This utility player should see some playing time covering up for injuries and fatigued starters, mostly due to his versatility. -Miguel Cairo (2B/UTIL): Another versatile player, and a very good contact hitter to boot. Should see some starts, and will be the main hole-covering guy. -Victor Diaz (RF/2B): This 23 year old is a very promising youngster, and should see quite a few starts this season rotating with Mike Cameron. His glove needs work, but he is not likely to be a major liability. -Eric Valent (RF/1B): The 28 year old Valent is a one sided player, with very good contact and power aginst RHP, and is most likely only going to be used as a pinch hitter in late innings. -Benito Santiago ©: He's now 40, buit can still hold his own. Every team needs a backup catcher, and the Mets have a good one who is seasoned and above average at almost everything... -Luis Rivas (2B): Luis is the epitome of flair, speed, and defensive brilliance. His bat is still raw, especially against RHP, but his defense should see him start a few times, especially considering Matsui's inconsistency. The ideal pinch runner. The pitching rotation will be posted after the first game update ,which should be up about .... now: Game 1: CIN Reds vs NY Mets Offense? What's that? Willy Mo Pena scored a crucial homer in a grind-it-out type of game, and denied Carlos Beltran and co a winning opening day to the season The 2005 season opener against the Reds in Cincinnati did not go at all well, although it could have been worse. Pedro Martinez started shakily on the mound, allowing 3 runs in the first 2 innings, all the while the Mets' sluggers could not hit anything but raw air at the plate. It was the 3rd inning that saw NY put up some numbers, courtesy of a Mientkiewicz homer and a blooper throw from Cincinnati 2B W.Bergolla. The score of 3-2 lasted a couple of innings more, but with the Mets unable to get on base easily things looked ominous. Martinez started to tire and with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th,he gave up another homer, this time a 2 run one slugged by Willy Mo Pena. There would be no runs in the remaining innings, and the reds walked out of this one with a relatively easy victory. It would not be so simple, however, as later on they would find out that their starting pitcher for this game, Paul Wilson, tore a muscle in his right shoulder and will miss the entire season. Notable Stats: CIN: W. Pena 2/4 , 1HR, 3RBI NYM: M. Piazza, K. Matsui 0/4 E: D.Wright, C.Floyd, K.Matsui BOXSCORE: NYM: 2R, 4H, 3E CIN: 5R, 10H, 1E
dweaver99027
Game 2: CIN Reds vs. NY Mets Defense picks up, offense bailed... Beltran drove for a crucial 3B hit in the early innings, while late in the 9th, closer Takatsu allowed no runs and locked the Mets' first victory of teh season... This time around it was even more of a defensive game that the previous one. The Mets started the first inning with 2 runs, scored another one in the third, courtesy of a three base hit by Reyes, took a 3-0 lead and did not look back since. The worrying part is that, in the final 7 innings of teh game the team's offense was again poor, to say the least, and we were only bailed out by the great defensive combination of starting pitcher Glavine and some good plays in the outfield. The Reds managed to trim down the lead with a solo homer in the 8th, but were inadequate offensively, swinging at pretty much every junk pitch thrown their way and giving up many 1-2-3 innings. Notable Stats: NYM: Reyes, 3B,2B, 2/4 Beltran 3B Glavine 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 2H Takatsu - SV BOXSCORE: NYM - 3R , 3H , 1E(Matsui, again) CIN - 1R , 5H , 0E
