Why Do Others Seem Content to Play with the 2004 Stats?

Hi everyone,

After a week of playing a MVP 2005 fantasy league containing our favorite players drafted onto 5 teams, my friends and I finally realized that the excellent Ultimate Rosters which we are using nonetheless only contains stats up to 2004.

This confuses us--we figured that other diehards would want to play with 2005 stats right away--and we are just trying to understand how others are using the game in the off-season.

I realize that a tremendous effort is going into putting the 2005 stats into MVP 2006--but have others been content all year to use players based on their 2004 stats?

I know that the stat fields are just window dressing--and that the hitting/pitching ratings are what determines performance. But I'm assuming that the ratings reflect the player's 2004 season--or do they reflect the player's overall career?

Any insights are appreciated.

Thanks!

Ben

Aha! Thanks so much. Did the modded rosters (such as Ultimate Rosters) also update the player ratings (contact, power, etc.) as a player accumulated more career stats during and after the 2005 season? Or have the player ratings in the modded rosters stayed the same since the beginning of the 2005 season?

And my most important question: do the player ratings reflect a player's career performance or just the most recent season? For example, do the player ratings for Soriano make him perform like the average Soriano over the last 7 seasons (including his much-missed days as a Yankee!), or just the Soriano over the most recent season with Texas?

Thanks!

Ben

Hey i finally was able to get the Official Patch #5 to work, asking for a friend of mine download it and then send it to me and it worked... awful...

Anyway i noticed lot of changes regarding the player attributes.

I am a Giant fan and i noticed the Giants are the 11th Overall Team. So i went to the Manage Rosters menu and checked the players.

Randy Winn for example, after coming to SF, he had a perfect year. He batted 12 HRs in just 50 and something games. Had an ERA of .340+ in San Francisco...

Then i checked his ratings and he had a 83 Power rating against righties and a contact of 90.

On the #4 patch he had those stats at the 60s and 70s.

I also noticed a huge difference in Matt Cain. On this roster update he is one of the best players on the Giants organization, i think he is the 3rd best, behind Bonds and Schmidt.

He was not that good on the #4. He had a 60 something of stamina...

I noticed changes in Niekro, Ellison, Feliz... most the rookies i am sure they made some changes.

I also checked Finley and he is not that good. He is on the 40s for Power and Contact against righties, because he had a tough year with the Angels.

Very interesting that the patch #5 has altered player attributes that seem to reflect the players' 2005 season. It might serve our purposes, then.

However, my friends and I need to be able to move our favorite 125 players (such as Clemens, D. Willis, Millwood) to the 5 teams we use (Toronto, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Orioles). As far as I understand, there is no way to do that in an official patch, because of the lack of MBE file that can be used in MVPEdit. Or is there a way?

Thanks!

I believe if you import the data folder with MVPEdit you can convert that into an mbe file.

Well, if that works, then I'll try it. Otherwise, we'll wait for SwinginSoriano's beta roster in mid-January. Thanks!

You'll have to wait for the 2006 version of the Lahman Database (baseball1.com)

Thanks, I'll keep my sights set on the Lahman website...but I'm still guessing that I'll be able to use MVPEdit on the offical patches and the other rosters that come out in the meantime.
