MarkB
How does it always managed to get used up so quickly? When I only had my 20GB hard drive, it took me a few months to start to get it filled to around the 15GB capacity. Later down the road, it would take me just a few weeks after reinstalling Windows to get it back up there after I had installed my applications and games etc. At that point, I knew it was time for an upgrade and purchased a 250GB Western Digital drive, thinking it would last me for the next year, at least. Well, it's now been filled to within 1GB of capacity 4 times in the last 2 months. Right now, I have a total of 250GB of HDD space split over 2 drives (my 250GB is partitioned into a main 127GB C: drive and a 104GB F: drive) after loss. Of that 250GB, I have 1.35GB free in total. I have my fair share of games, movies and a pretty good collection of mp3 files, as well as miscellaneous files thrown around (I'll admit, when it was just my 20GB, I was very organised. With the new drive, that went out the window and I now have files strewn around seemingly everywhere!), which probably atones for much of the extra. I don't think I have too many very large files, and I can't imagine the amount of small files I have manages to total a very large amount. So where does it all go? I'm beginning to think there is a massive conspiracy with Microsoft and hard drive manufacturers in which Microsoft creates new files and slowly but surely chews your hard drive space in order to get you to buy more hard drive space. It's amazing. I'm dreading having to sort through my files in order to organise them and burn them to CD's, but it has to be done, I suppose. I can just imagine all those little text files, system files and random program files calling my name and laughing as I type this. All the little clusters of data laughing as they chew away at my free hard drive space, each vying for attention to have their respective files deleted, moved or burned to a CD. Teasing me with their 1's and 0's. I'm coming, dammit, I'm coming! Once you sink in to the web of file organising on a large hard drive, you may never escape. Just keep blinking, keep moving, and don't let them take your soul as well as your will to live. Heeeeeeellllllllpppppppp................................ Friedman
You know Mark, those music files take up so much space on your hard drive. I have (or had I should say) a little more than 1,500 songs in my iTunes library. I then had an additional 200 or so .mp3 files that I downloaded. After I made sure that everything was transfered to my iPod, I deleted all of the music files, and looked at the circle graph showing the free and used space on my C Drive. I basically found that the music on my hard drive took up about half of my hard drive space. The only bad part is that if I want to listen to music, I have to disconnect the speakers from my computer, and connect them to my iPod.
SwinginSoriano
Jeez, I have trouble using up my hard drive. You have too much crap on your computer. If it weren't for MVP my computer would barely have any of it's hard drive used up.
ixcuincle
I hear you MarkB. I started off with 40 GB on this hard drive and somehow , someway 1.5 gb is left. I'm sure in a couple of days some magical hidden programs will hide and occupy space to somehow reduce my free space to 800 mb or 700 mb (it's happened before). A lot of those programs hide in the temp folders where I constantly purge to free up disk space. I'm really surprised my hard drive space is so full...one would blame Fifa 06 which is unusally large compared to other EA sports games , it's a whopping 3.5 gb large! Emil
I only have a 40 GB HD. And it's way too small, I have over 2000 songs in my Itunes Libary, and that w/o my cds. Pluss I got some games that takes up the rest of my space. So I'm going to buy some more HD space!
Pirate
I never have come close to using all my space. Way too much music there buddy. What about the games? Are they just installed off the CD or are they warez?
MarkB
I never have come close to using all my space. Way too much music there buddy. What about the games? Are they just installed off the CD or are they warez? Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? Thing is, I've only got around 2GB of random mp3's, maybe 20 albums ripped to mp3, and that's it. Games wise, I don't have a lot, but what I do have occupies quite a bit of space. I have Tiger Woods '99, MVP '04, MVP '05 (which probably takes up around 10GB alone when you factor in the Total Classics folders, stadium files and cyberfaces that I have lying around) Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, Baseball Mogul '06, Prison Tycoon, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and a few chess games installed (all of which are from CD's (or DVD's, in GTA:SA's case)). Seems like a lot in a list like that, but all in all, I wouldn't be surprised if those alone took up about 30GB of space. Ha, I just scanned my program files folder and the total space used is 42.2GB. Less than I was expecting, but I guess that would probably be a better place to start that arranging random e-books into folders and compressing them. Makes you wonder how anyone manages to live on a 20GB HDD and a limited CD-R budget. EDIT - I just found that I have 4 2GB .WAV files of Trenton Thunder game audio from the AA playoffs waiting to be compressed. The final files are around 50-60MB. That's some difference!

Yankee4Life
I would have the same problem as you Mark but I don't keep a lot of stuff on the hard drive at all. I burn a lot of stuff and by doing that I don't build up space on the hard drive. I only have a few games on the HD and that's it.

MarkB
I'm dreading having to sort through my files in order to organise them and burn them to CD's, but it has to be done, I suppose. Or not...behold my new Maxtor 400GB trash can. Hmmm...might install Ubuntu on it, actually. Total HDD storage space is now 670GB, made up of 1 250GB drive, 1 20GB and this 400GB external drive. Add in random storage such as mp3 player and camera etc and it's probably about 675GB. Didn't Bill Gates once say "No-one will ever need more than 640K of RAM"? I wonder what his thoughts on storage space were at the time.
