Are you saving the updated datafile as "datafile.txt" in the data folder? That's what you need to do. DO NOT remove the datafile.big file from the data datafile folder. As you have seen, this will cause the game to crash.

That does not make sense. You should be able to replace the file. However, have you tried deleting the file & not replacing it? Try that & see if the game plays alright. If it does, then it must mean that the new datafile you are putting in the data folder is corrupt. Try then a different one & see if that one works. seanjohnnyc
Thanks guys for your suggestions. I was using the old datafiles in the download section trying to get the espn cameras. Those files are corrupt and i had to get pareds olds datafile to get it to work. Does anyone know any up to date espn btp cameras?

spitoon
Not sure if you solved this but Jim825 was on the right track. The downloadable datafiles here are all in the datafile.txt form (once they are unzipped). This file needs to go in your /data folder (NOT /data/datafile). The only thing that should be in your /datafile folder is datafile.big (which contains the stock datafile.txt) and it must remain untouched. It was discovered in MVP 2004 (I think) that placing a datafile.txt in the /data folder overrides the stock one within datafile.big. EDIT: just read your first post again and it looks like you were putting it in the correct folder. On a fresh install there won't be a datafile.txt, so there won't be anything to overwrite. A couple of other things I can think of: You have the 'read-only' attribute set on your current datafile.txt. Are you unzipping the downloaded datafiles? Datafiles can not be edited in their compressed form they have to be uncompressed, edited, then recompressed to work. I hope some of this helps.
