Imaginations Needed.

Hello and a happy 2006 to you all. This thread is an appeal to your imagination and exploration. After noticing that the overal modding has been reduced and that pretty much nothing new is coming out that we have not seen before I began to wonder to myself "what is left". The natural easy response is "nothing" or "nothing that we can do" but I find that a little too convenient. I feel this way because of what happened to me.

I thought that I would be done audio modding until I stumbled upon a file that contained spreadsheets that controlled the crowd's reaction and the volume at which the user hears the reaction. I then did a lot of editing to these files to come up with changes to the game to produce many reactions coming from the crowd. Reactions such as:

*Late in the game if the home team's pitcher gives up 2 balls and no strikes and the game is close the home crowd will boo.

*If the home team's pitcher hits a batter some of the crowd will do the normal "Ohhh" but I turned the volume up and made the other half of the crowd to applaud the pitcher for pegging the batter.

*When the opposing team's player hits a home run the crowd will boo loudly.

*When the game is late and the score is close the home crowd will lightly boo the opposing players when they come up to bat.

*Increased the probability that pretty much every single time Chipper Jones comes up to bat in Shae Stadium he'll get jeered with "Laaaaaaaaarry" by the crowd.

*Increased the probability that the Braves Tomahawk chant will be used for the team to rally so it will feel like 1991 again (I'm a Braves fan).

So having said all of this I pose a challenge to you who read this. Look in your installed files and ask yourself "what is this?" "What happens if I alter this file?" "What can I change that has not been done before so I can upload it and make this game even better for us all?" This will make this game last longer and longer. As for my Crowd Reaction Mod, look for it when you download MVP MLB 2006. If you do not plan to download MVP 2006 I will release it seperately after MVP MLB 2006 is released.

Go explore. Use your imagination. Release your mods for us all. Thank you for reading my challenge.

great ideas. for those of us not as technically inclined (myself included) a list might be compiled of "local color" antics like the ones you describe with the braves.

i'd love to somehow digitize nancy faust into the game.

Hey Mo, here's my "challenge" to you:

How's about a release of this mod or at least a tutorial so the rest of us can play with it? Can you just open it in a text editor or what software do you need? Which file is it? Can you at least give us a treasure map? A few hints?

Sorry, it is on my home PC.

unless Thug chimes in to give those answers as to what the file name was and where I told him to install it you'll have to wait for those answers. But I opened the file with Biggui and inside of that main file was a bunch of excell spreadsheets. You just change anything you want inside. Like words will say boo_low and then in the next colum it will have 25 or 75 as in the amount or volume level. So, if you want the Boos to be more and louder, you'd change it to say boo_high and the volume to be increased to 100. This is a minor example but inside of that main file that contains all of these spreadsheets there is a spreadsheet for crowd reactions for when a pitcher throws a ball, strike, etc. There is a crowd reaction file for fould balls, strikeouts, swinging strikes, everything that I could think of was there. Stolen bases even.

Inside of each spreadsheet will be the crowds reaction for early in the game and late in the game too. I changed things to get the crowds reaction to be more into the game early in the game instead of late in the game.

This mod is one example and people should explore the game files more to see what else they can come up with. I don't want people to target just this one mod. That would be a backfire to the purpose of this thread.

The same thing happened to me. I was too dejected to care.

The only good thing that can come from this is with all the increased HDD space on the new drive and the ability to use the XBOX controller on the PC, I may finally buy the PC version.

Wow, that's incredible, I definitely want to play with that.

I hear what you're saying about looking through the game yourself, but I don't have much time or knowledge of that sort of thing and why explore terrain that's already been discovered? If I started opening files, I'd screw up my whole game (again). So I'll probably wait for you to get home.

BTW, I'm still holding onto my old crashed hard drive with some of my lost faces on it in case I can somehow get them back. I burn things to disc weekly now or even more frequently, I EXPECT my hard drives to crash. This hard drive I'm writing you from has only been in use around 3 days, ha!

But this is great work you're doing. When I make time to work on the game, I'm scouring the internet looking for old photos and reading old baseball stats web sites, I rarely have time to explore inside the game itself like you're doing. But I'm with you in spirit, Uncle Mo!

Not if you first back up the files you plan on modding. If something goes wrong, you then just put in the backed up version of that particular file.

dataaudiocrowddb folder is what you all want if you want to change your own. Or, be patient, save yourself some time, and wait for me to release after MVP MLB 2006 is released.

I'm going to see what in the world is in the anim.big file. I'm bound to find another treasure somewhere.

THANKS! If I have any time this week, I'm definitely diving into that. Good luck playing with the animations, that would be awesome if you opened up the ability for us to create new animations in the game!

- i posted about the dynasty goals in the mod request forum, but i can rehash it here very quickly: change the goals in dynasty mode to reflect teams' current status in the league, i.e. for the sox to defend a title, for the astros to go back and win it, etc.

- another idea that's been knocking around in the ol' noggin is the possibility for a creation of a server-based play system, kind of like Valve's "steam" network for half-life / counterstrike, etc. that would be a great way to establish leagues, tournaments, and allow wide-spread online play of the game. possible?

I've got an idea for everybody. I don't know how the audio 'tags' are setup, but how about on the road if the manager comes out to pull a guy that is struggling, or atleast for a mound visit, the crowd either errupts in a chorus of boos or cheers. Not sure which it would be. Would they be happy to see that they rattled the pitcher or dismayed to see the bum get the yank.

Highly possible. In the same file I told you all about. Only I'm not sure if it distinguishes between Away and Home team for that. The chances are very high though since a lot in the files say Away and for Home. I personally won't do it and this is a good idea but maybe you guys should get off of this one type of mod and use your imaginations for other mods.

Not sure about number two, Awesome, but number one is a good idea and should be brought up with the MVP MLB 2006 team. A seperate mod would be to make up your own phrasings of Team Goals. That is imagination pushed further. Great ideas. Keep the pot stirring.

i'll do what i can with some audio mods, as that's my only real area of 'expertise' (i do home recording, etc.)

i'm thinking something along the lines of "nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, good-bye" for pulling the pitcher, haha

glad to see that team goals idea might be do-able. who should i get in touch with about that one?
