RedSoxFan
Found this on Mvplanet.com , way down in a unread forum. We need to get this guy over here. Sounds like a great idea. Hopefully some of the wonderful modders here could use his formula for future Rosters perhaps?? Posted: Fri Dec 30, 2005 10:18 pm Post subject: Roster Updates with new ratings? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has anybody thought about updating the ratings for the rosters as well as the transactions. I updated every player that played more than 30 games in the majors last season and the results have been pretty fair during simulation. I used left right batting average and homer splits and a sliding scale to get ratings for hitters in contact and power. The scale looked like this. .320 and higher - 90+ .300-.319 85-89 .290-.299 80-84 .280-.289 75-79 .270-.279 70-74 .260-.269 65-69 .250-.259 60-64 .225-.249 55.59 .224 and lower 54- Power (I took total hr versus that hand pitching, divided it be total ab versus that hand pitching and then multiplied by 600 to get the amount of homer they would approximately hit if all at bats were versus that handed pitcher) Es.- 16 HR versus LHP in 227 AB would be= 600(16/227) = 42 which I then plug into the scale to get the power rating 50+ 90+ 40-49 85-89 30-39 75-84 20-29 65-74 10-19 55-64 10 and under 54- I then took every pitcher and compared their 2005 era's to 2004 and adjusted their control ratings by +/- 5 rating points on each pitch for every 1/2 run their era changed positively or negatively. They results after 10 simulated seasons produced American League Playoffs Yankees 10 times Redsox 8 times Whitesox 9 times Angels 8 times Athletics 2 times Indians 3 times National League Cardinals 10 times Padres 9 times Braves 6 times Astros 6 times Giants 3 times Mets 3 times Phillies 3 times I am willing to share these rosters if anybody is interested. I have been updating them after current transactions for the most part. Like Beckett is on the Redsox and Soriano on the NATS. Unfortunately I was not using downloaded rosters so the only minor leaguers are the top prospects and people that broke into the majors as rookies last year that I created or edited. I was thinking of doing the whole thing over again since I still have printouts of all the adjusted ratings if people think it is worth it. Totte
It looks like a solid formula but it doesn't say how you get time off your "regular" life to update 30 MLB organsations plus some minor leaguers playing 30 games or more...

krawhitham
assign the MLB teams to people to update, but the formula will not work for the minors. like I could do the Reds that is if you like this formula

vinnyxgunz
ratings are the most important thing IMO
SwinginSoriano
My roster (to be included with MVP 06) has updated ratings. I just finished creating some Giants' 40 manners, in fact almost all of the new ratings are done. (The Beta will be out around 10 or so days.) I used a different formula for assigning ratings. I accounted for a hitter's repuation, meaning that Manny for example will have a higher contact rating that his batting average dictates because of his reputation for hitting for average in the past. My roster may be what many are looking for. If someone wished to combine my finished work to UR I would also be open to that.
RedSoxFan
yes i have started this with the RedSox,and i used my own formula for durability, games played divided by full season(162). eg. 81 games played=50 durability, 100 games 60%, 125=75%, 140=85%, 155=95%162=Cal Ripken ;)
RedSoxFan
I have started to do EVERY MLB position player who had more than 30 games played. Or Pitcher with more than 20 innings. And all Free Agents. Any FA who did not appear in 2005, was issued a 1 star rating and a durability of 20. I did NOT change any Minor League Player, unless they appeared under the above mentioned criteria. I used the formula mentioned above/below and also my own for durability rating. Im currently modding the XBox console using the recent download of Ultimate Rosters. I guess i should have waited for 4.7x but once i started i couldnt stop. It is going to take a while , and im not sure if anyone is interested how i can get them out there, (i do have AR so i could post, or send to someone for a PC update?) Maximus21
I thought that the power rating was determined by slugging percentage, not HR rate.
