smooth as butter?

Basically I am a XBOX gamer that is forced to use the PC so I can use Patch #2. This being said I am disturbed by the choppiness off the bat and the "ball stutter" (as I have seen it called) while playing. On the console version everything is completely smooth with never a hint of choppiness. I have a 1.8 GHz, 512 ram and GeForce 5700 video card so I assume I have enough 'system' to get the best performance out of MVP on the PC, but I am wondering if I don't. Is the choppines off the bat (or screen stutter) and the ball stutter something I am supposed to get used to or is my machine not up to specifications for this to run 'smooth as butter"? GoodyBucs

try setting your monitors refresh rate to 60 hertz, i've also heard of some guys playing with antialiasing and anisotropic settings to help with choppiness.

There is something funny in the programming for this game that causes the choppiness...believe it or not, its much better since patch 2, but I still notice it as well.

The suggestion from EA is to try 60Hz refresh rate with Vsync ON

Other people have reported success when using different camera angles, especially RRodkey's latest datafile v7.

That is just so totally bunk that EA says to use a fix that not only effects MVP, but also effects anything else that is set to the screen resolution the game is set at. My game is set to 1024x768, the same as my desktop and a few other games. Setting this resolution to operate at 60Hz in MVP is in itself not a problem, but when I go back to desktop, 60Hz just doesn't cut it due to the flickering caused by that refresh rate.

It all comes down to poor programming by EA in the PC version of this game. Ridiculous!.

yes set your refresh rate to 60 and also vsync on in game options, and also i think i had read that there was issue ingame w/ nvidia chipset cards if i'm correct (maybe i'm wrong?) but try the age old adage of updating your drivers if u haven't already (not sure if that helps with nvidia maybe another member knows, i'm an ati man myself). your pc seems as though it SHOULD be up to snuff. personally about a year ago i built my own pc and spent alot doing it, but ran out of funds when it came to my vid card so i'm still using my old ati 7500 64mb card (yes upgrade coming soon). at first the game ran choppy as hell, and even patch 2 didn't really help all that much. but once i upgraded the ati drivers and dropped the refresh the difference was amazing... it is really smooth. so try that maybe. also for whatever it's worth i use roddata 3, it worked so i stuck with it. i don't know if any of this helps but it worked for me so maybe it may help you.

I've tried everything to limit the chopiness and nothing works. I have a 1.5 P4 with 512 ram and a Geforce 5700 ultra w/the latest and greatest NVidia drivers. I've tried fiddling with the refresh rates, antialiasing, all the graphics details and nothing works (in fact, it's less choppy at higher resolutions!). I really think it is the NVidia drivers. Is any one out there using a GeForce 5700 ultra and getting it MVP to run smoothly?

Are most PC games this choppy? After seeing that KERM does Madden Mods I am thinking about buying the PC version, but not with the choppiness...

well... yes and no! usually for the most part ea games (or sports games for that matter) usually aren't too demanding on your pc. i think i had read somewhere that the main issue in mvp was the ea camera angles, but i'm no expert when it comes to coding. also i had heard that there was some type of problem with NVIDIA cards. i use ati and the game runs fine. don't know a lot about madden the only sports games i use are mvp and the NHL series, but i would imagine it is fine. i'm also sure some of the flaws in mvp is due to the fact that it may be pretty tough to make the "perfect" baseball sim due to the fact that there is so much expansivenes and open space in a baseball field, somebody else may be able to embellish on this more than me. the difference of stuttering in pc vs xbox or ps2 escapes me because once i got my first pc i laid my ps1 to rest and never turned back.

the main reason being is that for gaming there really is no comparison, a console will never be able to match the pc. and stuttering in mvp aside there is so much more that can be seen and done on a pc game than you could ever do on a console. with a console you can only take graphics so far, then there be another version or updated console xbox2, psx or whatever to take it's place. eventually with all the hardrives and chip-mods etc add-ons for your console you would have pretty much have built an expensive low grade pc. the con to pc gaming is that since the possibilities are endless the graphics become more and more demanding

which results in hardware upgrades, just wait and the prices drop.

give it some time, get a good gamepad for sports games (keyboard and mouse for shooters all the way) once you iron out the kinks you will feel the same way. also if you can't afford a new vid card right now try an extra stick or RAM that way whatever the game is running that can't be handled by your vid card will be dumped into your ram, and should help out alot.
