Question about Saitek controller

After reading some posts on here I decided to go ahead and order myself one of the Saitek P880 controllers since no place here in town has them. Anyway, what I'm wanting to know is if I will need to do any configuration of the registry or anything else when using this controller. Thanks for any info you can pass along. I'm excited to get the controller and get to playing. The X-Box version was driving me nuts!

you'll just need to edit the configuration IN the game - to assign everything how you like it. Other than that, there is no additional registry edits or anything like that.

you are talking about the 880 right?

The P880 works great. The only change you'll need to make is a small edit to the controller.cfg file so that the right analog stick works properly when fielding or sliding. By default, you have to press left for a headfirst dive or slide and right for a feet first dive or slide. To move left or right, you have to press up or down.

The small change described in the following message board thread corrects this:

It's now much more intuitive (and follows the description in the game manual): Press up to jump up / slide head first, press down to dive forward / slide feet first. Press left to slide inside of the bag, press right to slide outside the bag, etc.

The controller.cfg file is in your My Documents / MVP Baseball 2004 folder.

I'm to lazy to get a controller and for the keyboard i cant find anything in the controller file for sliding or pickoff throws :(

Edit the controller.cfg. For the game to create this file, you need to go into the game, try to edit any of the controls (you dun have to), and then save it. Now, go to My Documents and find MVP BASEBALL 2004 folder, go in and open up controller.cfg with notepad.

You'll find that one of the controls (analog_right blah blah) is not assigned . assign the analog_right_up (and only this one) the number pad 8 button. Now , go back into the game, and you should be able to slide by holding shift and any of the directional keys on your numpad (8,4,6,2).

As for pick off, hold 0 + your arrows key . I think. you can also take a better lead off by pressing shift and the numpad buttons.

Also, change the "move to base" keys to 3,9,7,1 or something. Cuz your runners will run when you try to aim to hit if you don't.

Hope this helps.
