ngdot
So, what's the problem with my inability to get into the downloads section?
stinger4life
Wait so we now have to pay for the mods? Yep it is no longer a site for people to change their game freely...for now. I just have a question, I know that this is supposed to limit the bandwidth issue but you guys are shutting the door to many people, I would be okay with this if every modder gets a cut of this $5.00 because you are now charging to download their files. I am not trying to seem unloyal or like a punk or whatever that is not what i am trying to do so please dont misread what i am typing. I just as well as many other members have some questions about the new policy. My last point is that when the 06 mod is released we should not have to pay $5.00 to download it. A mod is meant to be free, if Kraw got a cut of the $5.00 i would be fine with paying the money.

Trues
So, what's the problem with my inability to get into the downloads section? Please send me a PM with the email address you used to subscribe. Thanks

tebjr
Trues isn't charging for the mods. He's charging so he can pay for the excess bandwidth that is being used. It's either this way or charge just to be a member of the forums. He's trying to be as fair about this as possible.

ChicagoCubs720
I know my opinion doesnt count cause I am not Trues, but I personally dont think this setup will work. I think this is fair because you should only be allowed to take if you contribute, but I have to question the legality of this. I dont know if anyone can charge money for mods. If the server cant handle all the downloading, someone here can probably volunteer webspace to host the files. I think everyone should be encouraged to add mirrors for there files so it can lighten the load from the server. members should then be either encouraged or required to use the mirrors to download. I also think a good idea would be to start clearing out some of the older mods (MVP 04). Maybe Trues could talk to BleedingCubbyBlue at theperfectgame.net and see if some of the files could be hosted over there. just my 2 cents :D
NYM
Wasn't KC's site (mvpinsider.net) supposed to help out MVPmods with bandwith issued? How about you take all the MVP 04 mods and put them on his site, if it's okay with him.
NYM
Wait a second. I have an American Express gift card. It works just like a gift card, but I can use it anywhere unlike if you have a bestbuy card, you can only use it on bestbuy. Trues, would this be okay to use? He is not charging for mods, he is charging for membership in essence. The ability to use the downloads section is a privellege, and for this privellege you are paying. This is very off topic, but I am in the contributors group and I was wondering how I would get that little logo above my avatar that says mvpmods contributor? stinger4life
tebjr I know he isnt charging us directly for the mods but indirectly he kinda is...I also that for now this is the only choice...but i do think that he should try and look at some free alternatives like was posted above me. I also agree with the torrent arguement because the torrent file system itself is not illegal at all and as long as something free is being shared it is perfectly legal. If all the huge mods were put into there own torrents it would lighten the load greatly. Or why not make it a little more reasonable for guys w/o credit cards...i would mail five bucks but there is no address...why not put a 100 post minimum to access the download section...you would weed out all the guys who just come here to download and be left with guys who obviously will post. All I am saying is that there are many different ways to handle this then having to pay money. And i am pretty sure Trues is looking into all of the possibilities. I understand that the charge is for membership, but someone could take it as if they were being charged for the mods. And it's only $5.00, which is really not much, the problem is that if anyone here doesnt have a PayPal account, they might have a hard time paying. I dont have one of those logos either, but I dont think it really matters.
NYM
Well this sucks. This is really a sad day in MVPmods history. I can't download mods now because I don't have paypal, and I don't have a credit card. This is just great.

That is a load of **** This site has NEVER failed to met a monthly goal it normally goes WAY over. And that does not include all the damn ads on the site If you are paying $ to access the downloads you are paying for the mods, period He will make money hand over fist until EA or MLB shuts down the site. But you will never know how much $$$ because the subscriptions are not listed in the Donations block This is the beginning of the end for this site Since this is now a Pay site how much to the people that make the actual mods get? stinger4life
Kraw i agree 100% with you...i hope you will not post the 06 mod here only that so not only "Special" members can download it. I said in my earlier post that you deserve a cut for the mvp 06 mod and i have felt this way for awhile. lol and obivously there would be Spam rules enforced like always to ensure it is a legal 100 posts. pdub
Modders can always upload their mods to a free file hosting site like megaupload/rapidshare/filefront/sendspace, etc. We can always pm modders and ask them to upload the file to an alternate source. And, yes Kraw hit the nail on the head.
NYM
Kraw makes a good point. This site makes more than enough money in donations. They always make it at least fifty bucks past the goal.

BrooklynNets24
the question is, how much spam does it take to get to 100? If theres spam then just ban the person, thats the thing many people here just download and ot even post in the forums. It like a grab and no Thank you
Hory
I'd quite happily pay $5 if it meant not having to read anymore mindless drivel by NYM91. I have my doubts over how this system work out, but I haven't ever created a site that grew to over 30,000 members, so I really am in no position to judge, that said, if nothing was done, there would be no site at all when/if mvp06 comes out.
