kinghernandez
Yeah, the 04 stuff could go but that would **** some people off as well. Basically no matter what happens it's going to **** a group of people off, I don't think there is any way around that.
D-Unit
Well, whatever is done is for the good of MVPMods.com. If people wanna get pissed off about five dollars, let them accept it, complain, or leave.
Hory
Perhaps the 'contributor' system could be implemented for downloads above a certain size and/or popularity - maybe 30mb? maybe 100mb? Since I'm guessing the big 'killers' of the site in terms of bandwidth right now are the models.big files, MVP06, Total Portraits complete set etc etc And since most of these large downloads are bascially compilations of other smaller downloads, if you didnt have 'contributor' status you could still get everything you need for your game anyway, since all the parks, individual faces, portrait sets, uni sets are all under 30mb or so Just a suggestion of course, don't know if it's realistic... I just don't want to see the site die as a victim of it's own popularity and the unwillingness of some of it's users to face reality.
jhath
please correct me if my facts are off, because im not very skilled in computer web stuff.... but if the 2004 stuff isnt being downloaded then its not taking up bandwith correct? i am under the impression that its not about the number of mods uploaded, its about how much is being downloaded... maybe more clarified is that, there's no shortage of space to upload the mods to, just a shortage of bandwith to download them on? so why take the 2004 stuff off if its not hogging bandwith? my suggestion would be to change the manner that the models file is updated... maybe have an installer that would make the changes and add the files rather then a brand new one every time? is this possible (again, program writing isnt my forte either )
Bama
Here's my suggestion... There are tons of sites like YouSendIt and Sendspace Why doesn't trues put a download quota on everyone (except modders etc...) Once you download a file, you have to repost it to YouSendIt or Sendspace in order to get a larger quota. Eventually, the files will be all over the place, and people will no longer need to download from MVPMods except for a few smaller downloads which they should have quota space from. Users can also post links (b/c they only last for a week) on maybe a wiki system? Just brainstorming...
Trues
Thanks for the input guys. The larger files (models.big, mvp06 mod, total classics, etc..) are already stored on a seperate server. That server alone does just around 1tb bandwidth/month, sometimes more. I'll continue to look at other options. Thanks again
Bama
Hey Trues, would it be possible to put some sort of mod or whatever on the forum so the post times include seconds?

JoeyMcM93
I am not exactly what you call computer savvy, and I could not imagine what it takes to manage a popular website. Therefore, I ask that you refrain from using terms like "dumbass" when replying to my question. Would it be possible to save the important threads/mods (with the help of members) and reset the site? I was thinking the same thing, but I'm sure it would **** poeple off as FranchisePlayer stated. Good luck to you Trues. I'm sorry this had to be such an issue. If you need any help just ask me! fred13
I have a quick question, what are the actual costs of keeping this site up and running. An actual number could help us come up with a soloution. I've never done any web work so I wouldnt know.
D-Unit
How about a car wash? lol but a number would help us out. and i think the $5 per person is a good idea, it would get a lot of money in to keep the site going considering the massive swarms of D/L'ers. ronmexico
RE To PM We'll see, considering that he isn't throwing anymore, they shut him down. He's out for the season, he has arm issues, but for his sake, I just hope that he can take the strain of a season. He was only making about 5 innings per start, and now he's down for the year so I don't know what they are gonna do with him. Hope it goes well for him, and hopefully Pellfrey learns something about tactical pitching while hes got a stint in the minors.

I'm sorry this had to be such an issue. If you need any help just ask me! Unfortunately, it is impossible to please everyone. Regardless of the solution, the ultimate goal should be to preserve the overall efficiency of the site. If some people are pissed off, then so be it. Also, I am by no means promoting my original suggestion. I know that the issue involves bandwidth and more must be done to resolve the problem.
