ronmexico
The actual connection is 100mbps, but the download speeds aren't that. Like this...http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2832/wirelessqi0.png In this case its 54.0 mbps because of wireless, but I am demonstrating a point. RAM
thats your port speed not the speed of your internet connection. it is not possible for coax cable to transmit speeds over 10mbps and can only travel 500 meters before it needs to hit a hub/switch/repeater etc.. your ETHERNET jack with copper wire can transmit speeds up to 100mbps on your LOCAL network ie- transfering a file from one room in the house to another. your wireless can transmit speeds of 54mbps over your in home network. keep in mind that it's highly unlikely on a standard home network it will transmit that fast. there is nothing in this country isp wise that can even approach 100mbps or 54mbps yet. i do this for a living i know of what i speak. you're confusing port speed with actual browsing/download speed. it's 2 entirely different animals. do a speed test at www.speakeasy.net and you will see that depending on your connection you are probably DOWNLOADING/ browsing at speeds between 256kbps- 4mbps and UPLOADING between 128-256 kbps. go here www.speakeasy.net THEN take a screenshot to show us. RAM
you have a fiber connection KC: Optimum Online Boost offers lightning-fast speed — up to 30Mbps — and premium features designed for a busy lifestyle, whether it's a growing family or a growing home office. When it comes to astonishing fiber optic speeds, it's Optimum, or it's not. it's fiber cable leased through lightpath in the NY area. essentially they install afiber link that connects to lightpath's fiber backbone. do you have a modem or is it connected directly to your ethernet port? Fios is fast, goes up to about 5Mbps (about I guess 620KB/s), and for 15 dollars more, it goes up to 15Mbps (about 1.2MB/s)

RAM
Does anyone here us FiOS from Verizon? Is it worth it? They're going to put it in my street soon, so I want to know if I should get it. depending on what you want vs. what you pay i think it's REALLY worth it. the middle tier is blazing fast but, the top tier is insanely expensive. expect the prices to drop big time over the next few years though. also being on a dedicated line to your home (theoretically) should reduce speed drops when your neighborhood is using the connection heavily at peak hours. here's some info: http://www22.verizon.com/fiosforhome/chann...oot/package.asp vs. standard cable connection comparison: http://www.manageability.org/blog/stuff/ve...s-comcast-cable i'd jump on it if you can. remember unlike cable, port availability is limited if everyone in your neighborhood jumps on it then you may be without it until they get around to adding more ports. which could take a very long time. Push me one more inch NYM and you won't have to worry about your avatar or your sig any longer. You'll be out of here quicker than you know. In fact, I should start a thread to let your fellow users vote on the length of your thread if it gets that far. And whatever they vote, I'll chip in and add 60 days to it. In other words, watch it. EDIT: I forgot to add, I was the one who changed your avatar. Why? Because you are an ungrateful little selfish whiner. How many **(&^)(# times have we let you back on this website and then you had the nerve to slam Trues down because of that subscription plan? No one threatened you to donate. We were going to have a "trusted member" list for people to have all the mods they wanted just as before. You would have been on that since you've been here so long. But you got scared because you thought someone was going to dip in your candy money. You have no idea what Trues is trying to do just to make this site as good as everyone wants it to be. Forget it, I typed too much and you won't understand it anyways. I apologize to the staff and the members for "yelling" at this kid.
