Dan
After seeing that KC has a 2nd hard drive, I decided to get one too...here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822218002 it's an 80 gig drive (holds THREE TIMES as much as my current laptop!) and only costs 90 bucks...with a $40 mail-in rebate offer too. Since I use two computers (one a dell laptop, the other an HP desktop), I always have problems sharing files and it's not even funny how slow the laptop is. I plan to get this, put all of the files onto the drive, crash the laptop and start over...with nothing on it! I'm betting that my laptop'll get back to normal speed and I'll barely have to store anything on it. Plus, I would share the hard drive so I can access it on both computers, and just have one copy of a program at my house running from the same hard drive...I <3 Technology -BBHD
MarkB
Why not get a much larger drive for a little more money, rather than a smaller one for less money which will eventually run out and leave you having to buy a new drive anyway? I have a total of 270GB raw space on 2 drives and have around 2.6GB free. Time for another burning session, I guess.
Dan
Wait...hard drives run out? I didn't know that...so like, it will fizzle after a while? Cause, really, I don't think I need any more than 100gb, seeing that I have an HP that holds a crapload already. -BBHD
five
Hard drives only hold so much data, once they fill up there is no more space to add any more data. You either have to delete some of the data or get a new hard drive.
Dan
Hmmm... well I seriously don't think I'll go over the 80gb...I'm doing just fine with my laptop's memory (27.9gb) and this holds three times as much so I think I'll be ok. Unless I find one that holds more and isn't too expensive/same price -BBHD

Dan
HAHa, I bought the WD 120gig hdd in my xbox for 55 bucks flatout, no rebates, brand new.So is this like a second hard drive for my PC too? I haven't ordered anything yet cause I was waiting for your opinion...where'd you get it? -BBHD
themewin
It was at a local store around here. I bought on "Black Friday" almost two years ago. It's just a normal hdd so it would work fine. You can find a better deal for that kind of money, that's just insane. I've gone to computer shows where 80gigs were priced at around 60-70 bucks. EDIT: Ah, it's an external USB 2.0. I didn't look at the link....Still you could get a better deal I'm sure.
Snash13
I bought my new hard drive a couple of weeks ago at CompUSA, It's a 250 GB and I got it for 60 bucks after rebates.
bigbully
compusa usually has good deals on hard drives - check the Sunday papers and you'll usually find a good deal. I prefer Seagate HD's
Dan
EDIT: never mind...that was internal If you find a good one - preferably 80gb or more - please let me know...I know nothing about the little details like RPM and all that stuff - I could get one that is as slow as a snail and never know it before I ordered -BBHD
eber
You could always get an external hard drive enclosure such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...660#DetailSpecs Take one of those cheap 250 GB'ers and make it an external drive via USB or firewire (this model I linked doesn't do firewire though). Dan
What's an enclosure do? -BBHD
Kccitystar
An enclosure turns an internal hard drive (one that goes in the computer) into an external hard drive, meaning you can take your HD anywhere you go.
Dan
Ah...well then I'm going to to for the regular HD because I'd like to not have a lot on my computer just a few files - the rest on the HD and backup disks. The model I looked at says that you can only transfer like 4gb at a time...I don't think that's too bad for my 27.9 full capacity HD on the laptop? -BBHD
Dan
I'm assuming that there is a way to share the files on an external HD...like, I could have my copy of Photoshop on it and be able to use it at either computer w/o having a copy on either computer's internal HD? Both PC's are wirelessly networked. -BBHD
five
You can share files, but I don't think you could run one copy of photoshop on two computers like that. Some programs, but definetly not photoshop.
Dan
Crap...well then I'll keep the programs downstairs -BBHD
ShesHotSheSteals
Purchase your hardrive online rather than retail. 99% of the time you can get an identical drive for around 20-50 dollars cheaper, or at least not have to deal with with rebates. Shippinfg for a drive generally dosnt excede $4 www.newegg.com generally has the best prices, and if not are not very far from it. An 80gb drive should not cost you more than $
MagicHands8686
I just got a couple of 300GB Seagate's. I'm now up to 900GB and I didn't think I would need more then 100GB when I started building my computer less then three mouths ago.
mrmariner
You can also save some bucks and buy OEM, thats if you know the dos commands to get it formatted.
MagicHands8686
When it comes to Hard Drives you should always buy OEM. Edit: Do need SATA or Ultra ATA?
ShesHotSheSteals
You dont need to know DOS to format a drive. You can format it VIA Disk Managment.
