Yankee4Life
You need the same rosters and same datafile to play direct IP. For example: Person A has Ultimate Rosters and a downloaded datafile. Person B has the rosters from MVP 2005 and the datafile that came with the game. That won't work. These two have to be identical. To connect to a Direct IP game, one player must be the host and the other player (the visiting team) is the JOIN DIRECT IP option. You as the host give the other guy your IP address and the visiting player types that in and lets the game connect to the host. Then you play the game. Go here to find your IP. slikkrikk
If/When we transfer over our league from PS2 to PC, I'm sure we'll have an open spot or two.
Gordo
I started a thread about this a short time ago and there were a few guys in there with contact information. It looks like some of the Old Boys club around here are doing a single elimination tourney as well. As this thread's focus indicated earlier, you have to have the right matching files, apparently especially the ones in the "dat" subdirectory and the models.big as well as the matching roster save. I too am not totally clear on what else could cause a desync to occur other than those. I'm pretty sure that the stadium mods/grass changer stuff does not....only player related ones, like cyberfaces. This could call for creating a copy of the game folder with the essential files being shared to match for all league/tourney competitors.
slikkrikk
It will be interesting what we find out from the single elimination tournament. On the PS2, the matching roster save does not have to be the same as the opponents though -- not sure why you think that is? That's the point of uploading custom rosters when you go through the login process correct?

Gordo
Must be a programming/coding matter in a particular game. I can remember playing NHL 2001 (yes, even with dial-up) and you could use the hosts rosters or use independent rosters. You could always tell the cheaters who would have teams like the Coyotes and basic rankings would all be 99! Probably since this was the issue, game developers tried to level playing fields by disallowing this at least for most PC games? dunno. I know for XBL, Inside Drive 04 could be played with independent rosters. Too bad they don't allow it for NFL2K5, cause Madden would still be taking a hit from them! fuzzone
To clarify some more -- u do not need the same rosters. However, if u download a roster set that comes with a modified models.big, then yes, you will both need to have the same models.big which means the same roster. if you are using a datafile, you both need to have it. Also in some cases, if u play in a stadium that is modded -- meaning one person has a modded stadium while the other does not, u will surely have an error and siconnect.
