danf
ok.. think i've solved my crashing problem in the game. after checking everything else and always leading to the video card, i removed the geforce 5200 and went back to the integrated graphics. ( wow what a crappy difference) I've played a few games with no problem, other than some faces look like the kid in the movie mask. (" I am not an animal, I am a human being ") i'm going to play a few more and if no crashes i am buying a new video card... now my question.. should i stay with a nvidia or change to an ati? it always seemed like my card was getting extremly hot before. The 5200 had a heat sink but no fan, I'm thinking of going to a 6600 with a fan. Any answers or sugestions are greatly appreciated.
TheMadcap
Ha hA, The Mask! That movie SUCKED! Cher sucks too. Wasn't she in that? Anyhow, I have an ati 9700 and have never really had any problems with it. I have an ati 9600xt 256 mb card but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to install it. I guess I kinda have the same ? as you then. What's a good budget ($100 or less) GC that will run MVP 05 @ peak performance? All that I can tell you Dan about ATI is that while I have never had problems with my card I have heard that installing new ATI cards can be a real *****, especially if you had a NVIDIA previously (completely removing old drivers & such). Also, I don't know what is up with my 9600xt, but that has proven a little dissapointing as well since I can't get it working.
Dead_Monkey_Z
First things first. Have you modded the game in any way? That's usually the main reason for the game crashing. I've modded the hell out of mine and I can go 10-15 games and then out of nowhere it'll crash on me. If you didn't back up any files you might want to try a fresh install if you haven't already. As for your graphic card, it could be from over heating but it doesn't sound like it. Have you gotten any artifacts (weird lines or dots, screwed up colors ect...) during game play? That's a main sign of a card overheating. Ati or nvidia? If you're looking for good performance with a low price tag the 6600 is what I'd recommend. Imo, if you're happy with the performance your card gives you then try reinstalling the game, see what happens, and save yourself some money. If you are looking to upgrade, the 6600 is a nice step up from your 5200. Either way I think the first thing you should do is a fresh install of the game and go from there. danf
thanks for the replies, I have modded the game with uni's and roster updates. I have had the problem with mvp 2004 also. I've tried fresh installs of both games, with no mods and still get the same thing. mvp is the only games that i play that is does this too, sometimes rebooting in the 3rd inning.. sometimes in the bottom of the 9th, seems inconsistent. I can play madden, nascar or any other ea games and don't seem to have the same problem. I have gotten an irql is less than or equal to zero message. Then thing has driven me crazy since the beginning, every time i think i have a solution it pops up again. I am leaning towards nvidia because of the driver issue and also had a local computer person tell me he recommended it over the ati. and yes..... mask did suck... but i still like cher's legs. lol. baseballfans
hey danf I will go with nvidia, as your friend say the driver is more up to date with the new game. Whereas ATI tend to be a bit slower in that dept. Updating to 6600 over 5200 is a huge improvement hehe so U're on the right track not just for this game but most recent games as well. But I would recommend U get a PCI-Xpress and avoid AGP Card. Mainly because more PC maker are not including AGP board in their computer now and is going for the faster PCI-X. danf
thanks baseballfans. I have been reading about agp and pci cards.. not sure if i understand the difference. Do you need a different slot on the motherboard to install a pci card? From what i've read that is what i'm understanding.
moarobb
Yes I believe your MoBo has to be PCI Express capatible. If you can determine the manufacture and model of the MoBo than Google it and you can find the specs for it. If you don't know the manufacture and model there are a few programs that can be install that will help you identify the hardware on your system. I will try to remember the one I had and get back to you if other ppl here don't already know. Robb

danf
Checked the motherboard... only has agp so i'm limited there. The other question i have is a lot of the 6600's have dual dvi output instead of the vga output.. is that going to be a problem if i'm using an old vga monitor? or is there a way to adapt it? thanks

danf
Well I finally got it... a geforce 6600gt... only problem is now i'm getting a message that it is not gettin sufficient power. So my next project is to replace my power supply. As of now I have a 300W supply, and am thinking of bumping up to a 500w. I also tried to play mvp and once it went into the game screen i had all different colors and shapes that looked like a kaleidescope. Hopefully the new power supply will operate the new card and it will all be taken care of but I'm still open for any suggestions.
danf
i fixed the insufficient power problem. the card is working fine with madden football, game runs at max settings and smooth as silk. Still have the problem with the colors on mvp though. It looks like the colors are all over the place, the shoes are a blur from one to the other and the field is totally unrecognizable. looks like a kid that had a problem stayin in the lines with his crayons. lol. If I can find a solution to this i believe I will be on the road to an awesome setup. At my wits end though, hope someone can help.. Pirate
That is truly wierd. If it runs Madden then it should run MVP. This is the trouble with PC games.
APR
I used to have a 6600GT, now the proud owner of a 7800GT, but anyways...make sure that your drivers are updated to the 81.95 Forceware (I think thats the number). If that doesn't work, try to find the solution to your problem by using trial and error (always works for me). Try to single out the issue and then come back here for more help to resolve it.
