Love That Dirty Water... A Boston Red Sox Dynasty

I've been a long-time admirer of MVPmods and the work you guys do here in the Dynasty section, so I thought it was my time to contribute and share my own story. Some of you may know me from Chris Creamer's boards (I think one of my Blue Jays concepts got posted here awhile back). I'm born and raised in Boston, so it's only fitting that my dynasty involve my favorite team, the Red Sox. Here we go...

Solo Shots Light Up the Lone Star State

Game 1 - Red Sox (0-0) at Rangers (0-0)

Curt Schilling wasn't entirely on his game, as the Rangers scattered eight hits over Curt's 6.1 innings, but the Red Sox defense kept Texas off the board. Coco Crisp and Manny Ramirez both picked up outfield assists as they gunned down runners at the plate. After the game, NESN's Don Orsillo caught up with Manny Ramirez for comment:

Ramirez: Hey you know man, it's a great way to start the season. Me and Coco both made some nice throws and we're just doin what we're doin. Trot, Alex and Youk all hit bombs and that's gonna help us until me and Papi get the bats goin. This was a team win this afternoon, man.

Orsillo: Manny, tomorrow you go up against another new Texas arm in Vincente Padilla. What do you expect to see at the plate?

Ramirez: Padilla's got a hell of an arm, man. I seen him back when he was with Philly durin the summer last year. Pretty sure the guy caught me lookin up there at the plate. He's gonna mix up his pitches, change speeds -- we just gotta stay on our toes and play the way we know we can.

Orsillo: Good luck tomorrow, Manny.

Ramirez: You got it.

Final Score: Red Sox 3, Rangers 0

W: Schilling (1-0) L: Millwood (0-1) S: Foulke (1)

Notable Stats:

Kevin Mench: 4-4, 4 1B

A. Gonzalez, T. Nixon, K. Youkilis: Solo HR's

only way it gets done now is with Cincinnati sending Kearns to cleveland and Clement coming to the Reds.

what was the score in the game above?

Yeah I just went with part of the original deal and sent Andy Marte to Cleveland. It doesn't have to be entirely accurate. These are my Sox, not Theo's. 8)

Beckett Sharp in Sox Debut

Game 2 - Red Sox (1-0) at Rangers (0-1)

game002image001.jpggame002image002.jpg

Above: Manny Ramirez watches his first HR of 2006, Right: J.T. Snow at the back end of a critical 9th inning double play

Josh Beckett came out and proved a point in his first start of 2006. He showed that he was absolutely worth every bit of hype surrounding him. Beckett was dominant over 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, striking out 9. Keith Foulke came in to grab his second save of 2006 in the 9th. NESN's Eric Frede caught up with Beckett in the visitors clubhouse after the win:

Frede: Josh, you certainly came out strong tonight. How do you feel after your first start in a Red Sox uniform?

Beckett: This is great, man. I feel fantastic. Couldn't have asked for a better Red Sox debut.

Frede: You seemed to have great command of your fastball tonight.

Beckett: Yeah, that was really the key for me. I was spotting my fastball really well. That setup all of my off-speed stuff. My curveball was really effective as a result.

Frede: You pick up your first win of the season in your first start, and you push the Red Sox to 2-and-0. Thanks for the time, Josh.

Beckett: Anytime, Freedo.

Final Score: Red Sox 4, Rangers 2

W: Beckett (1-0) L: Padilla (0-1) S: Foulke (2)

Notable Stats:

Manny Ramirez: 1-4, HR (1)

Mark Teixiera: 2-4, RBI

Josh Beckett: 8 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 9 K

Vicente Padilla: 7.1 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 K

Welcome brah, best of luck with the dynasty.

What are your slider settings and difficulty?

Eaton Brilliant in One-Hitter

Game 3 - Red Sox (2-0) at Rangers (0-2)

game003image001.jpggame003image002.jpg

Above: Adam Eaton pumps his fist after the Texas win, Right: Brad Wilkerson robs Mike Lowell in the second inning

Tim Wakefield was perfect through five and a third, but Adam Eaton still upstaged the veteran knuckleballer. After surrendering a first-inning single to David Ortiz, Eaton completely shut Boston down. He finished his complete game effort with 13 strikeouts, a tremendous feat against a powerhouse lineup like Boston's. The game was scoreless until the 7th, when Texas loaded the bases with nobody out, leading to three runs in the box score. With the win, the Rangers give the Red Sox their first loss of 2006 and salvage the three-game series in Arlington.

Final Score: Rangers 3, Red Sox 0

W: Eaton (1-0) L: Wakefield (0-1)

Notable Stats:

Adam Eaton: CG SHO, H, 13 K, 1 BB

Brad Wilkerson: 2-4, 2 R

Birds Pull Out an Extra-Inning Thriller

Game 4 - Red Sox (2-1) at Orioles (1-2)

game004image001.jpggame004image002.jpg

Above: Big Papi watches his 9th inning 3-run homer fly off, Right: Miguel Tejada crosses the plate for the winning run in the 10th

Matt Clement was hit hard early, and surrendered three runs to the Orioles in the fourth. Kris Benson shut Boston out all the way into the ninth, when he walked Alex Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis in back-to-back at-bats. Benson regrouped though, and struck out Coco Crisp and Mark Loretta to bring up the most feared clutch hitter in all of baseball: David Ortiz. Big Papi didn't disappoint, as he cracked the first pitch he saw into the left field bleachers, tying the game at three. It was Ortiz's first homerun of 2006. Keith Foulke came on to shut the O's out in the bottom of the inning, and the Red Sox went 1-2-3 in the Top of the 10th. The O's then jumped all over Foulke in the bottom of the 10th, forcing a 2nd-and-3rd situation with two outs. On a 2-2 pitch, Javy Lopez blooped a single over Mike Lowell's head to bring home the winning run. A great comeback from the Sox in the ninth, but Baltimore pulled the win in Kris Benson's Oriole debut.

Final Score: Orioles 4, Red Sox 3 (10 Innings)

W: Rakers (1-1) L: Foulke (0-1)

Notable Stats:

David Ortiz: 1-4, HR (1), 3 RBI

Javy Lopez: 2-4, GW RBI

Oh, Manny! Sox Bats Awaken as Ramirez Leads the Charge

Game 5 - Red Sox (2-2) at Orioles (2-2)

game005image001.jpggame005image002.jpg

Above: Manny admires his second-inning homer, Right: The Sox celebrate after their high-scoring victory

The Red Sox should've had this game in-hand without any worries whatsoever. The offense jumped all over Baltimore starter Kurt Ainsworth, lighting him up for six runs in two innings, knocking him out of the game. Bronson Arroyo then put it on cruise control, going 6 innings and allowing two runs. After a two-run top of the 8th, the Red Sox entered the bottom half with a seven-run lead. Then, the combination of Alan Embree, Guillermo Mota, Julian Tavarez and Mike Timlin proceeded to allow five Orioles to cross the plate, cutting Boston's lead to 9-7. Keith Foulke shut the door in the ninth though, securing Boston's third win of the season, and collecting his third save. Manny Ramirez led the Red Sox offense, going 3-5 and driving in 3 runs.

Final Score: Red Sox 9, Orioles 7

W: Arroyo (1-0) L: Ainsworth (0-1) S: Foulke (3)

Notable Stats:

M. Ramirez (BOS): 3-5, HR (3), 3 RBI (4)

M. Lowell (BOS): 2-3, 2 RBI (2)

M. Mora (BAL): 4-5, HR (3), 2 RBI (7)

Glad Lowell is reawakening, at least in your game. At this rate, even with the blown save, Foulke is on pace for about 85 saves. Let's hope that takes place in real life as well.

Lowell's still only batting something like .220 though, so hopefully he can pick it up a little more as we go along... I'm gonna hopefully be giving Foulke a little rest over the next couple games, I've used him in every game so far I think. I'll have another few posts tonight though.
