Contracts and roles

Right, so I'm planning to use a platoon system in my Texas dynasty, looking something like this:

Against RHP/LHP:

1. Mike Young - SS

2. Hank Blalock/Herbert Perry - 3B

3. Alfonso Soriano - 2B

4. Brad Fullmer/Brian Jordan - DH

5. Mark Teixeira - 1B

6. Laynce Nix/Kevin Mench - RF

7. David Dellucci/Eric Young - LF

8. Ramon Nivar - CF

9. Gerald Laird - C

I'm kind of up in the air as to what kind of contracts to give to a guy such as Hank Blalock, who will get more playing time since there's more righty starters in the league, but giving him an "Indespensible" or "Everyday" contract would probably **** him off since he obviously wouldn't be playing every day, and as I've read, promising a player that he'll play everyday in the contract screen and then not playing him every day WILL **** him off.

Pretty much, what I'm asking is, what would make a guy like Blalock the most happy, a "Backup" or "Situational" role?

And then what should I give to a guy like, say, Eric Young, who will only see time against lefty starters and won't play as many games?

Thanks for any advice.

Situational for both. No doubt.

For me it comes down to if your planing on moving the guy between the Majors and Minors. If it's a guy you see yourself dropping down to AAA when he's not needed, backup is the way to go. Lot of the time if you throw a backup player down to AAA it boosts their happiness through the roof which makes them play better while the situational guy who's expected to play at a Major League level when called to do so will lose confidence in his playing ability if you demote him.

To sum it up,

Situational = Equal or slightly less skilled player but better in certain situation than your normal starter.

Backup = Someone you'll bounce between AAA and the Big League.

Alright, thanks guys. Appreciate the help.

Guess I'll dole out some situational contracts 8)

Blalock is an all-star, why would you not play him everyday?

Because in Total Minors v3, his ratings against lefties are 31 for contact, 52 for power. Perry's got decent ratings against lefties, at least a big upgrade over that.

I'm not gonna complain though, because against righties he's an absolute monster :D

Jam,

You're said you're already going to go situational for both which I totally agree with, but think of contracts this way, if a player will consistantly start against only 1 side, then go "situational". If he's not going to start ever or only in case of injury, go to "back-up". If he's going to start against both sides, go "everyday". Personally I never choose "indispensible" because then eventually he'll always want a ton more usually at some point, but if you're going to go "indispensible", only use it for a guy with monster contact and power ratings against BOTH sides and you're going to start him batting clean-up against both sides.

Hope this helps.
