Phatferd
Hey guys, I just found out about this site from another board and I am totally amazed at how awesome this place is. I have never played video games on my PC, always been a console person. I would like to change that up. I have an eMachines T3256 T3256 Specs I am a college student so this is basically what I can afford, I can't get an awesome gaming system. I would probably add some RAM. What I really want to know is what is the cheapest Video Card I should get? I want something that will show pretty good graphics, but be cheap, since money is the biggest thing for me. All I will play is this game (with the 06 version that you made) and Tiger Woods golf. I have no interest in First Person Shooter or anything like that. All I play is sports games. Thanks guys, I appreciate the input and you have an awesome site.
eber
Everything on your system looks adequate enough except your video card. I've suggested it before and so i will again...if you're looking for the cheapest solution, try eBay for a used GeForce4 Ti-4200...it can usually be had for a little over $20 shipped. Shoot for one with 128 MB of memory and 128-bit memory. I wouldn't suggest anything lower since you'll probably run into the low-graphic "stuck" problem, or even lower end ATI cards since I've seen that problem too. I used to run a GeForce4 MX440 64MB a while ago and it was probably the bare minimum but had problems running higher-res textures. The Ti-4200 card is older but still should run any EA sports games pretty solid.
Phatferd
Thanks Eber for your help and response. I really know nothing about Video Cards. When you mentioned the GeForce4 Ti-4200, I would assume anything with a higher number than the 4200 would be a better card. Am I wrong in assuming this. I found this card on Newegg and it seems really reasonable. Is this a better card? Geforce FX5500
eber
Surprisingly, no...the higher number isn't always better. In some cases, the Ti-4200 can outperform or keep up with cards with "higher numbers". Though, if you're looking at that particular FX5500, and I'm assuming you'd like to avoid eBay and buy new, that card should be a good choice for your requirements. Edit: I don't know first-hand but I'm pretty sure the FX5500 is better than the Ti-4200. I'm too lazy right now to check, but it's at least comparable. Phatferd
Appreciate the help man. I would have responded earlier, but this site has been really slow and busy. Thats a good thing though. I found the FX 5500 on Newegg.com for $40, so I think this is what I am going to do. Someone told me to get the Radeon 9800, saying the 5500 sucked, but its $50 more bucks. I also think he was a fanboy. I should be able to play the modded 06 version with the patches with a FX5500?
