brtalley
hey guys...a few questions about how to make my game run smoother. i downloaded the latest driver for my radeon x300 and i have tons of options now and i'm not sure if they will help. the game runs a little jerky and i'm trying to make it smooth. i have the option to run everything through GL or Direct 3d...any idea which i should choose? also, what do i put anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering at? if it's low will the game look not as smooth but run faster? also, i have a window about overclocking...i can set my core speed and memory speed. should i make them higher? i also have the option for adaptive anti aliasing...what's that. thanks a lot guys. Kriegz
What mods are you using? Cause with the 06 mod its gonna slow it down no matter what system you have. Something that I use that helps for memory is RamDefXTreme.

JoeRudi26
While we're on the subject of Video Cards, I have a question maybe someone can help me with. I just upgraded my card (GeForce 7800GT) and have been trying out different AA/AF settings. In pic.1, the AA/AF are turned off, and you can visibly notice the "jagged edges" on some of the graphics. In pic.2, the AA/AF are both set to 4x. The graphics are much smoother (#1), but I get a "box" (#2) outlining the Base Path Radar. I've tried almost every combination of AA/AF to no avail, and resolution seems to make no difference either. Since my card is decent, the gameplay doesn't seem to slow down at all, so I'm open to any suggestions. If I'm missing something on a different setting, any help would be appreciated. There's no harm in playing around with them. - Overclocking is something you shouldn't mess around with unless you know what you're doing. If you don't overclock correctly, your card can overheat and you'll see artifacts (strange stuff on the screen) due to overheating and your card could be permanently damaged. The "box" is a common problem when you tweak with one of those settings (I'm not sure which or if it's both)...I don't think there is anyway to fix it. You learn to ignore it. :p

Now THAT works well if you ignore the box. No more jagged edges!
JoeRudi26
Ok, thanks for the help, guys. I didn't realize this was common with AA/AF. I'll still mess around with it and see what I come up with. If by some miracle I find a fix, I'll post it. If not, I'll just learn to live with it. jogar84
Well I finally fixed the shimmering grass problem. This should probably merit a sticky for all those who still have the problem and use a decent graphics card like ATI Radeon 9200 or above. You need to download .Net Framework 2.0 and ATI Catalyst Control Center. Set Anisotropic Filtering to 4x (this worked for me) Try experimenting, the higher the AF setting, the slower your game will run.
