Sean O
Hey everyone- There seems to be a lot of discussion about what else we can do this upcoming year, both for mvp05 and for the site itself. Particularly, I see a lot of requests for fantasy parks, as well as a lot of people who seem interested in designing parks but who don't have the modding experience to bring it to fruition. I'm interested to see if these people who enjoy park design would create their stadiums for the world to see. It can be major or minor league, big or small, with only basic limits to what is possible. It can be in any medium of your choice: pencil and paper, MS paint, photoshop, 3d studio max, the sky is the limit. I'm sure we could get some great judges, and I think it would be wonderful to have as many people as possible show what they love in a park. So, any takers? Kriegz
Sounds pretty awesome. Get some cool designs and put them into the game. I'd love to see that Oakland A's concept stadium done, even if it isn't really gonna happen. I'd be willing to judge.
AstroEric
I'm in as well, for competing, judging, whichever you prefer. I wonder if Sean O (aka The Little O?), Pirate, The Big O, paulw, Tribetime or anyone else would care to offer a prize for the best park design? I'm sure you can tell from the list of names I offered what that prize might be. --Eric
Pirate
The ingame creation of said park. That would be rather fun.

NYM
Can we include stuff from like the removable o file. Like have the apartment building from Petco in left field? Maybe the big screen from Turner included in it too. The working scoreboards? Can this be included in the ballpark because we can actually do it now. If it can let me knwo and i'll get started on a project.

Moser316
Damn, I think I need to get in on this (my master's thesis was a 12,000-seat hockey arena)
Kriegz
You don't make it in the game yet, just make a design in PS or whatever you have and enter that. Then the modders will do the winning design.

NYM
I have the sickests design ever. I just hope I can get it down like I have it in my head. I don't remember what memeber said it but he said "The new Busch isn't unique like Petco" or something similar. My park will be unique. Is there a deadline for when we have to enter the park in by? How about sunday the 26th?
Sean O
I'm gonna need way more working time for this. I was thinking about the middle of March, or April 1st. I mean, the optimal solution is to actually get this widely publicized, so it's not just the site members working on it, and with more time we can give everyone more time to work on it. How about we set these as some interim goals of the project. Requirements: 1). You must choose a specific team. This should be made to solve the issues of a particular team, whether it is a major or minor league team. 1a). You cannot choose a team that has a new park since US Cellular Field. However, renovations where seating substantially changes are allowed. 2). You must choose a specific location for the park. Not everybody can use Google Earth, but I believe each entrant should take a snapshot of a particular piece of land with google satellite or terraserver and custom fit the park to that land. 3). The park must be physically possible. For example, there cannot be floating seating sections or 100' tall left field walls. If you want to have a cantilever design or a postless seating section like Yankee Stadium, explain how it happens. 4). Everything required of a MLB ballpark must be evident. Dugouts must be noted, as well as bullpens. Also, they must follow the basic rules outlined for major league parks, and so no part of the park can be less than 300' from the plate. Judging- Judging will take place on 3 different categories: 1). Originality 2). Solving of the team's requirements 3). Overall quality of the idea And to reiterate, this can be done in any medium you would like, as long as you can accurately convey the idea to everyone else. If you want to use pencil and paper, that's absolutely fine, just as long as you can scan it in or take a high quality photo. If you want to build a model out of cardboard or foamcore, great, just take some photos. And if you wish to use a computer program, you must take enough screenshots to get every part. The most important thing is, execution itself isn't the point of this competition. The quality of the ideas themselves are what's important, much more so than just how good you are at drawing or drafting. For an idea of what I've done in the past, here's my thread: http://mvpmods.com/index.php?name=Forums&f...%22Sean&start=0 In there, you can see the parks I've done in the past, and on page 4 an idea of what I did for a specific physical site for a stadium. I am dying to see what some people are coming up with, and most of all I hope this is fun for everybody involved, and watching. Any comments on the rules list I came up with are welcome. NYM
O ****! Your talking about making it from the ground up! This is sick, because I was mapping mine out from the CAS. This gives me a whole bunch more options. Quick question. I remember hearing we couldn't move the bullpens. That was before everyone found out about the removable o. file. Can they be moved now? Sean O
Don't worry about making this MVP-accessible right now. Actually, mods, can we move this to forum and site issues? I think this would work better if it's a site-wide competition, not directly connected to MVP. So just design the park how you want, with bullpens and dugouts where you would like. This is about getting the best design ideas out there with only a few basic limits, and I want to see the best that this site can offer.
Pirate
I call Minnesota, but i am sure we can double up....
NYM
Ok. Another question. Just say I'm looking for a spot for the Mets. It doesnt have to be in Queens right? Because I know this place in Brooklyn where there is a cool backdrop.
Sean O
I think we'll leave it up to your discretion. Optimally, the plot of land will be pretty much undeveloped, with only minor things that can be easily moved. For example, I'm heavily considering a certain spot for my entry, which is not even in the same state as the current park. As long as it's within a reasonable distance from the current park's location, its fine. Just use some basic common sense and it should be fine. Just don't think the Cubs' new park should be next to Des Moines, Iowa, since that would be a bit of a stretch.
AstroEric
...Unless you're talking about the Iowa Cubs. My question is this: I've spent the day in class doodling pictures of a major league ballpark that would be in Charlotte, NC. There's currently two things going on in Charlotte: (1) They're talking to the Marlins. Just like they talked to the Twins, Expos and Brewers. (2) They're considering moving the AAA Charlotte Knights to the actual city of Charlotte (And state of North Carolina! They're currently in Fort Mill, S.C.!). Could I make a generic sort of park that would work for either team? If I keep the confines to something similar to the Pirates' current stadium, which would be a little big for a AAA team, but not too big, could I keep my design sorta generic as far as the team who'll play there goes? Actually, a few more questions. 1. Is there a square foot size that outfield walls, as well as the ads that are on them are? My perspective is skewed by never having stood beside one. 2. Can it be pin-pointed in MVP where the fireworks shoot out from? Or do they come from a sort of generic place in the outfield? --Eric
Sean O
don't think it's really pinpointed, and try to find a picture of ads next to people, and you can make a good guess. I have no problem including the 3 or 4 cities that are currently rumored to be relocation sites for the Marlins or Twins. that makes sense. So, it's Portland, OK City, Charlotte, and maybe one i'm forgetting. San Jose would also work. Glad you're doodling away! And, as far as Pirate, there's not a problem doubling up, since I think it will be tremendous to see different solutions to the same problem. NYM
I call the Mets. I got the sickest design. The hard part is putting it on paper. And man do I have an insane view that would blow people mind away. The land where it actually is has buildings, but that doesnt matter. I'll knock down those buildings and build my stadium. ChicagoCubs720
Can anyone just start coming up with ideas on their own or do they have to officially enter (if they do, I 'officially' enter myself) also, do you have to 'call' the team you want to make a stadium for? by the way, great idea! :wtg:
