How to know if 3rd baseman is back or not?

i would love to know the same thing! also, how can one permanently position a 3rd baseman closer to the line? he keeps on fielding balls hit to the shortstop!

You have to change the positioning in the datafile for this. Check out Snepp's tutorial...there is a section in there where he defines IF positioning. Go into the datafile and find that address and change the 3B X and Z variables to closer to line and further up or back...alot of it is trial and error.

I did this and also moved the ss further to the left toward the hole for default for each type of hitter (pull, extreme shift, slap, etc...). Actually, I changed all infielder positions to be a bit more realistic. One caveat...don't move them away from their positions for the dp variables...they'll never get to the bag in time. In fact, I moved the ss and 2B closer a bit.

I can't tell you anything but, I'm about 85% successful at bunting with Tony Womack and the key to it is don't telegraph your bunts. In the middle of the pitchers windup press the bunt button and aim with towards the third plate on the ground and it almost works everytime.

If you hold the bunt button down then the thirdbaseman will start to charge in. So one of the things I like to do is hold the button down so he'll start to charge then pull up (from the bunt) and try and hit a groundball at him so he won't have time to field it because he'll be too close.
