1. McDonald's fries don't have gluten, THEY ARE MADE OF POTATOES

2. The only way they could have gluten is if this McDonalds didn't have a dedicated fryer. (A fryer for french fries only.)

3. Most McDonalds' have dedicated friars, only a really old one would not

4. You can easily see if the friar is dedicated

5. If contamination is a problem, don't go there

As a celiac, I am disgraced at these morons. (edit: should be disgraced at myself :p ) I bet they determine things are gluten-free by just looking at the ingredients without wondering where they came from.

CHICAGO - And another thing about McDonald’s fries: They’re not gluten-free.

Not long after disclosing that its french fries contain more trans fat than thought, McDonald’s Corp. said Monday that wheat and dairy ingredients are used to flavor the popular menu item — an acknowledgment it had not previously made.

The presence of those substances can cause allergic or other medical reactions in food-sensitive consumers.

Source: AP, via MSNBC

Don't jump the gun in protecting McDonald's. They'll break your heart everytime.

Those assholes... I just ate there two weeks ago. (I don't react) Pretty stupid to blow money with dedicated fryers (Wendy's doesn't even bother for example) just to put wheat ingredients right into the French Fries anyway. I always thought that most reactions were psychological.

Luckily I cook for myself most of the time and I don't have to worry about this BS.

Here's my dumb question: Who forced her to go to McDonalds to get french fries every day for two years? Did the McDonald's employees work in daily shifts to go and pick her up so she can come in and buy the fries off the dollar menu and then bring her right back home?

I think if you go and eat at McDonalds every day you are going to get sick eventually. It isn't exactly the best stuff for you anyway.

Yeah, but we do have laws that say companies are required to list their ingredients accurately. I do think that you get what you deserve if you eat at McDonalds everyday.

But if your concerns are (1) not worrying about getting fat, and (2) not wanting to eat gluten, I think you still have room to sue.

her parents. they claim they want her to eat fun food that she can't eat becuase she's gluten intoreant. fun being unhealthy in most cases. please, that is a stupid reason to go to mcdonalds every day. just put her on a healthy diet or something, or better yet, have swingingsoriano cook her meals, it will do better for her health overall...the parents can cook and supervise everything she eats, and she has a healthy diet that won't get her sick.

and the father is supposed to be a science teacher. what a dope.

Glutengate continues:

McDonald's Media Statement - 02/20/2006

McDonald's Fries are "Gluten and Allergen Free," According to Expert

“We understand the concern that individuals in the Celiac community and others with food allergies may have regarding foods that meet their individual needs. That is why we are eager to provide them with the most factual information we can.

“Scientific evaluation by one of the world’s leading experts on gluten sensitivity and allergenicity, Dr. Steven Taylor of the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program of the University of Nebraska, has confirmed again that our fries are gluten free and allergen free.

“Based on this analysis, we believe the lawsuits filed are without legal merit.â€

Jack Daly, Senior Vice President, McDonald’s Corporation

Who the hell knows... It'd make no sense that McDonalds would blow tons of money on dedicated fryers just to add wheat and dairy (gluten and cassein) ingredients in the fries. Anyway, I'll just avoid McDonald's for now. I eat McDonald's like once a year and now there is a gluten possibility.

If you get sick from McDonald's, it may not be the gluten...

Hell, McDonalds is great for the dollar menu and I eat there with restraint. I'm not getting sick, it's fine for you but the key word is restraint. They make it sound like they made it toxic or something.

WTF is wrong with people. McDonalds will never be good for you. NEVER. I don't get why people want to be fat. Then they feel bad for themselves because they can't do anything. Too many people in American are obesce. (did i spell that right?) I'm not going to say I'm the worlds most fit man, but I workout at least three to four times a week. Sprints, a little weight lifting, and I don't eat Mcdonalds. I think the last time I ate McDonalds was in November!

the "might contain gluten" list for celiac disease:

Additives

Artificial flavorings

Caramel color

Colorings and dyes

Dextrins

Emulsifiers & softeners

Hydrolyzed plant protein

Hydrolyzed vegetable protein Malt Vinegar

Mono- & di-glycerides

Natural flavorings

Preservatives

Spices (anti-caking agents)

Starches, modified food starches

hmm...looks like the parents just belived that it didn't have gluten becusae they asked mcdonalds...looks like starches (commonly in fries) are on the list, among other things in fries. they should have done their homework and see what may or may not contain gluten, and base the diet off of that. they could have gave the kid gluten free versions of "fun food" and cooked it themselves and avoided this mess.

and a blemish for mickey d's: they probaly took fries off the gluten free list becase of the lawsuit and the kids getting sick. this is going to be a bit of a messy case.

Gluten is everywhere, it's like God. They even make perpared gluten-free snacks in the same facilities that process wheat...

Gluten pisses me off.

French Fries are actually "mysteriously" removed. (List was updated 2/21/06) Busted... I have to state again, what a waste of money to buy all of those dedicated fryers, only to put wheat ingredients in the fries.
