Question regarding AI

If 2 teams play against each other (AI vs AI), and all players have the same exact stats (meaning that the batters, infielders, pitchers, etc for each team are identical as far as their stats are concerned. ie Pitcher for AI #1 has the same stats as the pitcher for AI #2, and the 2nd baseman for AI #1 has the same stats for the 2nd baseman for AI #2, and so on and so forth for the rest of the players for each team).

If both teams go against each other, will they be repeating the same moves? Meaning that on a particular inning, say AI #1 batted 4 home runs, then upon AI #2's turn, it too will bat 4 home runs since all players for both teams have the same stats.

Has anyone tried anything like this? Would be interesting to find out. I know that in some games, there's a minimum and maximum number that you can assign to each player, so that even if you input the same exact values, the computer still assigns a particular random value (based on the min/max numbers you indicated) to each player. This makes for interesting matches between the AI.

Sometimes I just want to sit back and watch a game, not necessarily get involved. I always like to give each team an equal chance of winning, so that's why I ask if I were to give two AI teams the same values, if they would basically imitate each other's moves/plays or if there's a random feature implemented so that the numbers given by me would be treated as variables and not constants.

Thanks for any info. Hopefully someone undestands what I'm trying to accomplish here.

I really don't know. But you would have to consider the random things that happen during a game, like the gold glove infielder that just dropped the ball or made a bad throw. The guy with 45 power that just took a 98mph heater out of the park. You would have to look at those things also.

What I'm trying to understand is that if I copy say, the Yankees roster and duplicate it and rename it to something else, say the Yonkers. Now I have the Yankees and the Yonkers play against each other. Will both teams duplicate their plays since both have the exact same rosters with the exact same stats?

This happened with Madden Football (2002 or 2003 version, can't remember which). I duplicated a team's roster, renamed it, put them back in the game and essentially made them play against each other and they would basically each duplicate their moves. In other words, you create a team with better stats than any of the other teams, and you can even let the AI play against itself, and you're guaranteed a sure win since there's no randomness involved in the stats. In other words, B-O-R-I-N-G!!! Haven't checked if the previous version has improved on this "bug" or not.

So I just want to make sure that's not the case with MVP also. So I wonder if anyone would even care to try it out. Just copy any team, rename it to something else, then set them to play against each other (I guess in Exhibit), and see if they duplicate most or all of their moves. Or at least the score is always tied or just off by 1-2 points. Is anyone out there even interested in doing this?

why not just play Yankees v Yankees?

If the program lets you play any team against itself in a CPU VS CPU game, then go for it. Could anyone try this and report their findings. You don't need to finish the entire 9 innings. By the 4th or 5th inning, you should be able to tell right away if they're duplicating their moves or not.
