mflv
I actually read in the newspaper that someone was suggesting that Jon Dowd be the one to investigate the "allegations" about Barry Bonds's minor in Chemistry. I thought that was hysterical because if it happened and it came to anything, then Jon Dowd would indeed replace Barry Bonds. You see, the geniuses at EA Sports were more prophetic when they made out their roster than anyone gave them credit for.
eber
From Wikipedia: Jon Dowd is an assistant producer working on EA Sports' MVP Baseball video game series. His name was used to create a fictional player designed to emulate slugger Barry Bonds, due to Bonds' unprecedented decision to pull out of the union for monetary reasons. As the producers of the videogame felt they couldn't release the game without a character representing the San Francisco Giants' star player, Dowd "became" him. And the Dowd you're refering to is "John" not "Jon". Just a big coincidence.
SwinginSoriano
They used 'Jon Dowd' as an obvious joke. Instead of a less entertaining generic name.
Filthy57
The John Dowd you're referring to, I think, is the one that investigated Pete Rose.
