Attempting to Combine 2 Datafiles

Recommended Posts

I'm posting because I'm have downloaded two different datafiles and want to combine them. Specifically, they are:

* Jim825's Combo Datafile v3.0

* High Heat Batting Camera

Though I'm really digging Jim825's Combo Datafile, I would like the stock Camera 6 back and change camera 5 to the second datafiles's mod - the High Heat batting view.

I'm really new to editing datafiles and all. I went here and followed all the steps. But, as you can see, there's no step 3 - Editing. Yeah....it's kind of critical, eh? :?

If anyone can tell me what I should do next, I'd really appreciate it!

There is an application out there called CompareIt (google it), that allows you to see two files at the same time. You can copy and paste from one side to the other. You just have to be careful to keep everything in order or you will screw up the datafile entirely.

Whooyah!

Thank you two! I was able to decompress it and then use CompareIt - which, by the way, is an awesome program 8).

Though I'm really not sure which line means what, I assumed that anything that contained <BattingView#> was what I wanted to change. So, using CompareIt, I switched all non-agreeing lines containing that text into Jim825's Datafile.

But that's where everything started to go wrong.... :(

After choosing a "Save As..." (and doing "Save All"), I went to the file called "datafileEdit.txt". It's in the same directory as my Batch files. When I run the compression batch file, I receive the following error:

compressionscreen4zy.png

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Also, feel free to talk down to me - I'm really out in left field here [but trying  ]

Again, thanks!

Hey MaddiesDaddy,

Thanks for the link! I downloaded the little utility and ran it. Unfortunately, after pointing it to the correct directory/file and chose the compression option, the DOS screen appeared and went away. Unfortunately, the numbers were moving so fast I couldn't see what was going on exactly.

Also, it's weird - I have temp file now. :?

I think I've made every user/ modder here dumber!

As you said MaddiesDaddy, I made sure the compression utility, in this case I was using gfxpak.exe as opposed to EAZip - I think. Still, even after downloading a copy of EAZip, no changes... :(

Also, to add, when I get the failure option and all that, the file created - TEMP.TMP - is exactly the same size as the DatafileEdit.txt.

And finally, I took Jim825's datafile, decompressed it, did not edit it, and attempted to compress it - just to see if it was something I am doing when editing the files. Still no luck there either.

Thanks for the continued support! :!:

I had the same problem so i just renamed the edit file to datafile.txt and imported using BigGUI and compressed it in there with that program. Seems to be working fine on my xbox. See if that works for ya.

That sounds like a plan x63!

I downloaded BigGUI and extracted it. But, when I import the newly renamed "datafile.txt", it doesn't work.

In the little program description, I get:

error: Bigfile not open

Importing C:Program FilesEA SPORTSMVP Baseball 2006dataWIPFinal - Combine DFsdatafile.txt to datafile.txt

error: Bigfile not open

Finished - successfully imported 0 of 1 files

Any thoughts? :?

x63 - MUCH THANKS! That was it :!:

Also, to MaddiesDaddy and Spitoon, thanks! :D :!:

If anyone falls into the same category, here's a brief step-by-step for archive purposes:

1) Using gfxpak.exe, I extraced both datafiles [to datafileEdit.txt] in two seperate folders

2) Using CompareIt.exe, I opened both datafileEdit.txt files.

3) Using the feature in CompareIt that allows users the ability to transfer unmatching lines, I put all the lines I wanted into the "better" datafileEdit.txt. In my case, I was changing the batting views.

4) I then "Saved All."

5) I manually renamed the newly saved datafileEdit.txt to simply datafile.txt.

6) Using BigGUI, I opened the datafile.big in my game's datafile folder.

7) I then imported the file I renamed in step 5. When prompted to overwrite the existing datafile within the .big file, I chose "yes."

8) I selected the newly imported file and, from the Edit menu, chose "Compress."

9) Then, I clicked "Rebuild."

10) Finally, I made sure to erase any free-standing datafiles within the game's root directory.

Again, a BIG THANKS to all who helped!

You're welcome.

I haven't used CompareIt for a long time now, but I'm sure it will highlight the differences between the two open datafiles, so you can eliminate all the stuff that you don't need to worry about. Then just focus on what is different, it might help you understand a bit more about the datafile as well.

You're exactly right, man! Though I'm still very far from even being a novice, at least I'm not as itimidated now!
