pfalvey
I am just starting to play MVP 2005 again after a long layoff and was wondering if anyone could give me a few hitting tips. When aiming the swing, am I trying to aim where I think the pitch is going OR where I would like to hit the ball (aim up and outside=fly ball to opposite field, low and inside=grounder to batter side of the field). Any other hitting tips are appreciated, I am having trouble hitting homeruns. Thanks, Pat
kgbaseball
Here's my strategy. With the datafile I have, the middle infielders play pretty far from second base, so with a contact guy I don't push the stick at all, hoping to hit the ball over one of the infielders heads. With power hitters, I always push the stick straight left or right, depending on what handedness they are. For speed guys, I try to shoot the ball through a hole on the ground, so I push the stick straight down, southeast, or southwest. Almost all my homeruns come when I'm pushing the stick straight right or left. Also, I think the pitching ai is very repetitive in its strategy for each batter, so usually if a pitcher throws a ball outside, I know the next pitch will be inside or down the middle of the plate. With 2 strikes, I rarely use the stick unless I am pretty sure where the pitch will be thrown. Wow, I wrote a novel. Hope it helps.
fred13
When aiming the swing, am I trying to aim where I think the pitch is going OR where I would like to hit the ball (aim up and outside=fly ball to opposite field, low and inside=grounder to batter side of the field). You have to take both in consideration. If the ball is high in the zone then you wanna push the stick up to hit a line drive or a fly ball. If you wanna pull the ball, then wait for a pitch on the inside part of the plate and push the stick left/right depending on the handedness (word?) of the player. If you wanna hit it the opposite field, you push the stick the opposite way of the batter and wait for a pitch on the outside part of the plate. If its low and you puch up, you'll probably hit a weak fly ball, and if its high and you push down, you'll probably hit a weak grounder. So where the pitch is pitched determines the outcome of where you should aim to hit. Its kinda confusing at first, I know, but be patient and you'll get it eventually. kgbaseball
Do you guys hold down the stick prior to the pitch being thrown or do you decide which way to push as the pitch is coming towards you?
fred13
If i want to hit the ball a certain way, I'll push the stick that way and wait for a pitch I want to hit. Otherwise I'll see what the pitcher is throwing. The more patient you are though, the more you'll be able to draw walks or get solid hits.
Hoop27
Do you guys hold down the stick prior to the pitch being thrown or do you decide which way to push as the pitch is coming towards you? 2-0 3-0 or 3-1 I'll be holding the analog stick up and pull looking for a pitch middle in. pfalvey
Thanks guys for the tips. In addition to your tips, I've increased the user batter contact and power settings, I just have too much difficulty hitting, espescially for power. Thanks, Pat i remeber it taking me forever the first time and when i take a break from the game its like starting all over agin too. How are you supossed to use the analog stick to put the ball somewhere, and use it swing at a ball in a certain part of the zone. If you want to hit a low ball in the air do you push up? Seems like I always swing over. Push down? Ground ball. And I sem to remember the directions telling you that the analog did both.
pfalvey
Audome25, I don't understand that, as well. I've been trying to keep the analog stick level/in the middle vertically, but moving to the left or right if it's an outside/inside pitch. If I was patient enough to get ahead in the count consistently (3-0, 3-1), I could aim the analog stick up and wait for a good pitch. Unfortunatly, my eye isn't good or fast enough to determine whether the pitch is going to be a ball or strike in time to adjust, so I usually swing because I can't stand to have a called strike. Pat Pat, I used to have the same problem like you. (can't tell the difference between ball or strike and "trigger happy finger") just keep your eyes on the ball, adjust your timing by using check-swing, and try to memorise how each pitch moves using your lead-off batter in the first inning. You could also start by only swings at fastball & change-up. the rest of the pitch you just let it go, unleses you're 100% sure you can make a perfect contact on the ball. minmaster
sometimes pushing up and trying to hit a HR all the time can mess u up...
I.Am.Canadian
When I use Mark Teixera, when he hits lefty against righty pitcher i always go up and in. It's a sure-fire HR, at least 450ft. That's how i hit huge ones.
